I've decided to make my own break-top grips from some nice African Wenge hardwood I bought and some grip screws that are on order. The grips are in this wood--I just got to get them out! ;)

zippovarga

Sweet! That looks like it's going to be a great looking set Dar!

redhawk4

Can you tell me how many pieces of African Wenge hardwood a 22 mag will go through

They should be nice from the look of the wood. I think you're taking on this project to expunge the ghost of the 2 ber 4 grips - I hope it goes well, I look forward to seeing the finished article.

Thanks, Zippo. I'm looking forward to it.

I seek to redeem myself, Redhawk. These are certainly not two-ber-fers! ;) And if it goes

well, I'll be proud to pack these grips around. I'm thinking about making two sets of grips from

this wood. I think there's enough (and then some!).

The stag grips came in.............

   I think it looks nice..........

A class act!

zippovarga

Who made them Barky? They look real nice!

45flint

NAA you have inspired me.  I bought some fiquired walnut scales on ebay last night.

Barky, WOW!! Great grips!! I love them!! nothing beats Stag or Ivory for me any way! gives it a look of years long past!

engineer88

Barky, I hope you don't mind, but I saved a copy of your pics to my hard drive so I can drool again at a later date.  What a classy little package!  Thanks for sharing!

45flint

Going to get some ebony scales as well.  Also just bought a small jewelry box off ebay at a cheap price that can be converted to a case like I did for the Earl.  Give us a few months and you will see what real TB nuts can do.

chopprs

.....well, where did you get them?

sirbarkalot

The stag grips came from E-bay.

you gotta shop to find them.........  but are there from time to time

   Barky

chopprs

I am a little suprised at that. Usually eBay does not have real high qualty stuff like that. They are super nice. Mind me asking how much they were?

sirbarkalot

I don't mind.  you have my e-mail

45flint

Got my wood for some experiments in grips for the breaktop.  Figuired walnut and solid ebony.  The solid ebony is coal black and tight grained. Looks better than picture, good enought to be a finger board on a quality guitar.  See what happens.

Nice, 45flint. I think that'll work out good for ya. Those look a lot like the ones I got. I got about 6

different woods, in addition to the ones I posted. Can't wait for my grip screws.

grayelky

Where do you get the grip screws? I have some ivory scraps big enough for Mini revolver grips.

I bought the above pictured grip screws on eBay from a guy in Thailand. I can't validate whether they are any good or worth the price I paid, but should be getting them soon, so we'll see.

   You can find some here:

grayelky

When you get them, let us know what you think. I would prefer SS, but if they meet your standards, I'll pick up some too. Thanks for the info.

Yeah, I would like stainless, too, but brass has a nice color to match the wood. I had a tuff enuff time finding these screws and eschutions (is that how you spell it?)

I'll let you know. Shipping from Bangkok was estimated at 2-3 weeks, so they should be coming soon.

It's too bad that our friends cant be here with us today

Collector-

Any update on the grips screws yet?

   Very Nice!!

cedarview kid

The grip screws are definitely bigger than the regular NAA ones, but I think they will still work if I cut them shorter.

I also made a preliminary set of boot grips using some of this wood and determined that these particular pieces are not thick enough for boot grips. I plan to try the regular birds head grips instead. With the part the wood the overlaps edges and touches the grip on the other side, there just isn't enough thickness available. I was disappointed in that and still plan to make some boot grips, but will have to find a different source for wood.

I just got a set of Collins Craft aged Ivory Micarta grips for my breaktop as a Christmas present. He just happened to have one set left on his shelf, and I don't believe he has time to make any others for the minis at this point in time. They look great! Real turn of the 1900's stuff.

I tried to order a couple of sets of stag grips

from Collins about a week ago for the Mag. frame

and he said all he had left in stock was two

pair of corian ivory, so I ordered those. I

already have micarta ivory on a 22lr and a mag.

frame. My favorite NAA grip is the rubber Pug

grip, but it has to go.. Seem like I have

developed a bad allergy to latex as in rubber.

I have about 9 guns with rubber grips. If I

shoot any of them and wear a light leather glove

I am OK. In the cold weather I have been carrying

my Pug in a Madhat belt holster but had to give

give that up because I couldn't avoid touching

the grip once in a while. I even had to put a

sock over the shift knob in my go shootin truck.

If anybody has a latex problem get your rubber

mouse pad out of the house...

   Latex is everywhere.

Anyway, I am on a non rubber grip hunt, which is

not good since I realy like rubber grips. I made

some grips years ago so maybe I will try that

   again.

ephraim

coinchop,

Would you have a set of the old style checkered grips for the mag frame you would like to get rid of? If so, I would be interested.

   E!

   No, not now anyway.

ephraim

Coinchop,

Thanks for the reply.Glad you found the corian ivory. They should be very nice. Let us know how your grip making turns out.

I've got a mini-master that is boxed up and ready to send back.

The pistol seemed to be rough and have an extra click as I cocked the hammer.  Now it is "locked up" and can't even pull the hammer back to cock.

I bought it new and it has maybe a couple rounds fired from it.

The sights are also so high, I cannot zero it at a reasonable range.  I've got the rear sight cranked down as far as it will go, and it still shoots feet high at any reasonable range.  (maybe zero for 100 yards).

   Anyone have any ideas?

   Are these common problems?

silverzuk

Not sure why I can't post a thread on the main page, but I didn't mean for it to go here.
