HRA has introduced what they term a "Garden Gun" - their .22LR lever action repeater with a smooth bore:

I think it is an example of an interesting and specific purpose made gun.

Would imagine if you had a lot of mice or gophers and you lived out of town or perhaps snakes?

Or even if you wanted to get rid of larger animals like racoons or even a coyote, shoot one of those with a couple shots and they will probably move other locations.

Would I buy one?  Not for 400 bucks but if I saw one used for 200 bucks.  You bet.

Also, is there any reason you could not make ur own 22 caliber ball ammo, possibly black powder?

If nothing else Henry makes some beautiful looking guns ,can't say they don't . I'm a big sucker for brass hardware , :).
TO ARMS , TO ARMS the liberal socialists are coming . Load and prime your weapons . Don't shoot till you see their UN patches or the Obama bumper stickers , literally . And shoot any politician that says he wants to help you or us .

The Henry Garden Gun's not a brassie - it looks exactly like the blue/black H-100 Standard.

Listed as a shotgun. Glenn, maybe you should look at the whole thread. Last time I checked shotguns were still legal.

The other thread was about smooth bore handguns.

Remington used to produce single shot smooth bore .22's, for a game called moskeeto, miniature trap shooting, had it at scout camp in the 50's, and Marlin  produced the Model 25 bolt gun as a smooth bore, for garden use, have seen them on Gunbroker.

From the Henry web page:
QuoteThe Henry Garden Gun is one that belongs right by your side as soon as you walk out the front door to start the day's chores. Tuck it next to the seat of your tractor or riding mower and have it at the ready for when something slithers into view through the grass, dispatch those barn-dwelling birds without dispatching the barn around them, or exterminate the mice that are turning your garden into a buffet. This smoothbore lever action is a workhorse that belongs in a toolbox just as much as a gun safe.
Most snakes are both harmless to humans and helpful in controlling pests like mice. All native birds that do not have a hunting season are protected. You could legally use it on starlings and house sparrows, not sure if there are any other birds that would be legal. I guess if you kill off the snakes in your garden, maybe you will  need it for the mice. Funny that Henry does not even mention the one thing I have used .22 shot for: killing rats in the barn.
