I took the Sidewinder, Pug, Black Widow, and Sheriff out to compare velocities today.  I was rained out before I got too far, but here are my results so far.

(all 22 mag, velocity & energy listed, elevation 1300', temperature 40 f) string of 5 for each.

PUG                      1" barrel
Maxi Mag HP         40 gr    788 fps    55 fpe
Critical Defense    45 gr    882 fps    78 fpe
Maxi Mag HP+V     30 gr    858 fps    49 fpe

SIDEWINDER          1.4" barrel
Maxi Mag HP          40 gr   842 fps    63 fpe
Critical Defense     45 gr   925 fps    86 fpe

BLACK WIDOW        2" barrel
Maxi Mag HP          40 gr   871 fps     67 fpe
Critical Defense     45 gr   988 fps     98 fpe

SHERIFF                  2.5" barrel
Maxi Mag HP          40 gr   968 fps     83 fpe
Critical Defense     45 gr 1096 fps    120 fpe

The results are as expected for the different barrel lengths.
Some interesting comparisons to when this was done in summer temperatures:
Maxi Mag had slightly lower velocities at the lower temperatures
Critical Defense generally had slightly higher velocities at the lower temperatures.
And my biggest surprise - In my earlier test it was odd that the sheriff had velocities barely faster than the black widow despite the longer barrel.  This time they fall more in line with what was expected (sheriff about the same as summer, black widow lower).

Great job.  That critical defense round sounds like a winner.

heyjoe

It's too bad that our friends cant be here with us today

Thanks guys!
I was wanting to finish a few other brands of ammo but the drizzle is not letting up.
I had thought that the reloading process on the other minis wasn't that bad, but the speed of the sidewinder is appreciated when shooting a lot.  Feels a lot like the pug.

Keep doing the experimenting.  I think we all like reading those results.

Thank YOU very much,
I love seeing those results.

Awesome job!! I'm curious.......does this new forum format have a tech tips and information section? Maybe a chat with Sir Webmaster could create one where information like this can be placed in an easily acceptable section. Now that I've suggested it, I'll go look for my self...lol

Very informative! Obviously a lot work on your part, and it is appreciated!

Work?  More like playing.  ;D
I hope to have more ammo added when the temps get up to 40 again so the numbers are consistent.
I should try some strings at twenty below sometime just to see how much of a difference it makes.

Jackson57 - Nice photo and nice data. Like others, I always like seeing info about guns and ammo that I use. Critical Defense does look good: that is a round I have not shot.

Posts like this are why i stay around. I like info. Even better gun info.
