Probation period part deux

I've looked through the FAQ section and found some questions answered.
•  I've figured out that things get better after the 15-post probatiinary period - I get it; it's a necessary evil to weed out the riff raff and also to avoid scammers, phishing, etc.
•  The verification images are really hard for old eyes to identify.  But thankfully I realized that I can "listen to the letters," enabling me to accomplish the impossible.

Other newbie-type questions:
1)  I started to make a reply to the original "Probation period" thread(aka topic), but I got a message saying: "Warning: this topic has not been posted in for at least 120 days. Unless you're sure you want to reply, please consider starting a new topic."... so I'm starting a new one.
Q1)  In such a case as this, is it preferred to start a new thread, or resurrect an old thread?

2)  When someone makes a new post or a reply to a post that I really like or find especially helpful.
Q2)  Is there no way to just "like" it, without making an actual reply?

3)  When someone makes a reply to my post or quotes me.
Q3)  Is there no notification, other than seeing the number of replies in the forum listing?

I have one more question that I'll save to make in a reply to this thread...

#1
... By my count I should have 2 original posts and 2 reply to a post.
This is a test to see if a reply to a post increments the post counter to 5.

You are now at 6 posts. I've brought a few old threads back to life and in some cases just started a new thread/topic. I guess it all depends on how I'm feeling at the time. Just jump in a few other threads and give a quick yes or no reply and you'll be at 15 posts in no time. From there it's smooth sailing. No "likes" but you can quote the particular answer that you find helpful and that will put credit where credit is due.

Q1: If you are referencing posts in an old thread it makes sense to resurrect the old thread.

Q2: I don't know of a 'like' function in the forums, however a short 'metoo' type post does the trick. Some posters here have posted a thumbs up emoticon as a metoo post. Personally, I prefer to add a little something about why I agree (or disagree).

Q3: If someone replies to your post the thread is marked as having new posts and it pops up to the top of the list of threads in a forum. The number of posts here is generally small enough to read all the new ones in a few minutes. Forums with new posts have a different color bullet. The bullet colors are not color blind friendly, so I don't know what they are, but I can tell the difference if I stare at them long enough.

And . . . Welcome!

Post 17:  Thanks guys.  I appreciate the tips and the warm welcomes.

Welcome Tip,
Pretend you just walked into a barber shop. The people are all talking about this and that.
Usually threads stay somewhat on topic but not always. We DO have thread drift.
The rules are:
1. No cussing.
2. No pornography.
3. If you make a statement, you must back it up with pictures. This keeps braggarts away.
4. Post pictures of all your pretties. That makes my coffee taste a lot better.

Just a few more posts and you will be in free.

Well it needs to be said... some of this wait and see stuff is daunting... Mostly because 9 posts in I am still awaiting to have post #1 approved 4 days later. ???
