Any thoughts from any of you on the Zip .22 from USFA they just announced?

Gimicky guns usually are what?

I've got lots of what people might call gimicky guns and I'm generally happy with them. What I'm not happy about on the USFA zip gun is the inability of USFA to deliver their BX-25 magazine upgrade kids, since the BX-25's are jamming in my Zip gun. It's a known problem and I can't see how they are selling these now without having the conversion kits available. I could buy about six or so of these right now around the $200 - $220 range locally, but if they don't reliably feed because of a known magazine issue, and the company doesn't manufacture magazines, what are you to do?

Just get rid of it while the getting is good (market) . All I see with this thing is future problems and you'll end up giving it away .

USFA has recently retooled to make stuff like the Zip. I hate that I missed out on getting their "high capacity" single action .22 cowboy revolver. 12 shots, I think?

I'm sure they're having growing pains and the market attitude of "buy it, buy it all, buy it NOW" can't be helping.

I'm going to keep mine. It works fine with the 10 round rotary mag. Yeah, it's a bit "gimmicky," but that's why I bought it. They've already released one upgrade parts kit to make it more reliable and I'm sure they'll be more and it'll just get better.

The BX-25 issue is that the gun cycles too fast for the big mag to feed. They're trying the aspect of a stronger mag spring and I'm pretty sure there will be a future kit to lower the cycle rate. It's not like we mere mortals are allowed to have a full auto pistol like this. It'd be fun though! 25 rounds in the blink of an eye. Kinda pointless, but I'd want it anyway.

As I said in response #3 to the origional question posted by Louie, "a great tax write off for investors".
I couldn't then, and still can't, imagine what the owners of USFA were thinking when they decided to take the company in such a radical new direction.  And to do so with the first design not fully developed and having such limited appeal, (basically collectors of oddball guns), appears almost suicidal from a business standpoint.

I bought one of those when they were current for about $750. It was such of a nice gun that I never dared shoot it. I would get it out of the drawstring bag once in awhile and check it out, and thought about shooting it, but just couldn't get myself to do it. It ended up being a safe gun.

So when I found out USFA stopped making them, I checked street prices and was shocked. I sold it on the local classifieds for $1600 and the buyer was SO EXTREMELY HAPPY to find one in unfired condition. It was like my break-tops--I just couldn't justify keeping them or shooting them when they ended up being worth so much. I buy guns to shoot, not collect, but often end up collecting them anyway. But, really, I'm NOT a collector, tho I've claimed to be in the past.

Could have fooled me, Mr. 22. I thought you collected NAA pistols? :)

I have a ZIP22, it didn't do well with the one set of springs, I swapped them with the other set it comes with, and it's been working well, I really like it

I want one because it takes 10/22 mags, but from my reading I am waiting until they get the bugs worked out, I have seen a lot of jamming issues with the ones out there right now.

Kel-tec do a .22 pistol,

http://www.keltecweapons.com/our-guns/pistols/plr-22/

the recoil spring is above the barrel.

So I would assume this could make the action shorter if you put the trigger in front of the magazine, might be worth considering as a basis for creating your own Zip type weapon. You could make a fairly rad railed slim line Alu platform one would imagine, or even a shoot around corners weapon. When I look at that I imagine a circular swivel bar running vertically under the bolts maximum rearward travel point were the upper receiver would terminate, which attaches to the pistol grip/trigger section but this would have a flatter upper topped off with a rail. You'd put a wee tv on this rail and a wee camera mounted under the barrel, which connect to each other via coiled wire. Hold the pistol grip stood behind the corner and swing the rest around it, point via the camera and fire. You can get an attachment for the same purposes which fits Glocks apparently, however I think the notion of a firing point behind cover, worthy of a purpose built device.

The trigger sear would be inside the circular hinge bar, it would swivel with the barrel part however a rising bar would act upon it from below via the trigger. I.e. lowering it to fire, this version would fire from a open bolt if the original doesn't.

.223 version...

Why not put the recoil spring around the piston or piston sleeve of that's what it is, simply have a extension emanating from the upper forward part of the bolt carrier which would end forward of the spring closing around it and compressing it thus i.e. like a pistol slide.

Then same thing, open bolt.

I'm seriously beginning to wonder if I'll EVER get the BX-25 upgrade kits. I've got 5 BX-25's that I bought for my zip and they don't work. Can't decide if I want to wait or dump the zip for a loss.

Ah well. At leas they SHOULD work in my Intratec Tec-22. Haven't tried 'em, tho.

MR_22

The BX-25 magazine upgrade kits are FINALLY available as of last week. Wow, I've been waiting for this for over a year. So I just ordered 3 kits on Amazon, plus a top rail to add a red-dot scope.

They also have a free upgrade kit for the gun, if yours was one of the early units, which mine was. So I registered with the website and should be getting one of those, too.

I had almost given up on this stupid gun, but if these new parts work, perhaps I'll keep it. But these things just add to the price of the gun....

MR_22

So, I got a Ruger BX-25 magazine upgrade kit and a pic rail and added them to my USFA ZIP gun. I like it much better now! But it still won't feed worth crap. There's an upgrade kit for the early guns that I've ordered, which is supposed to fix feeding problems. That better fix my problems or I'm calling USFA. I'm beginning to really like it, but if it doesn't shoot, it ain't worth crap.

Have not heard nor seen good things about this gun.
YouTube has several videos on it from different users.  They don't seem very enthusiastic about it.
Think I'll hold on to my money and look for other firearms which don't have so many bad reports.
Of course, that is just me.  There may be folks out there who rave on and on about the Zip.22.  I'm not buying it.

MR_22

I bought my ZIP gun within weeks of it being released and available for sale.  As far as I can determine, however, mine was made within about the first 150 from the factory. I like weird guns, so this was a natural choice for me. That was almost two years and and it's been in the safe ever since, because it just wouldn't shoot. I would get one, maybe two shots off, before it would jam. This seems typical from YouTube videos I have seen.

I registered my ZIP with the factory last week and they have contacted me about sending it back so they can upgrade and it make sure it function. If they can accomplish that, I'll be completely satisfied with it. So, I'm having to go thru the hassle of sending it back, but hopefully I'll be pleased with the end result.

After modifying the BX-25 magazine and adding the rail for a 1x red-dot scope, I'm fully convinced I'm going to like it--IF IT WILL SHOOT. Big IF. The grip on the gun is strange, because there IS NO GRIP. But with the 1x scope and the sleeved BX-25, I like how it feels. So, I'm indeed hopeful once again. So, I'll report back when I get more information, including when I get it back. I'm actually excited about having a function ZIP gun. :)

MR_22 wasn't this THING designed to be mounted on an M-16 or some military weapon to help defer the cost of ammo in shooting roadside bombs and land mine looking ? It's an accessory piece to mount on a rail so what dang good is it really ? I just can't see what an intelligent person ( unless your rolling in dough ) would actually want with this junk , the military laughed them out of the demonstration . Ever listen to the guy that designed and built this , good god almighty...... how do people like that have or come up with the cash to make such a mistake as it is . There's one borne every minute I hear say , sorry , OUCH .  :-X :-X :-X :-X

MR_22

It was designed so it CAN do that--if you want to pay the $200 SBR tax for it. I don't. I'm not interested in using it way, but I have plenty of interest using it "in the normal way" (as if this gun can be normal).

I like weird crap--and I don't think this is the weirdest gun I own, nor do I think it will be my last weird gun. Normal is boring and I hate to be boring. If you like boring, that's up to you.

MR_22 don't tell us you have one of those Rhino looking whatever also , please don't say , HaHaHaHa . That's really fugly , it's hurts the eyes looking at it , DANG !!!!!  ;) I think they made these guns for the video game crowd .  ;)

No, I do not have one, but I want one, preferably the White Rhino. Too expensive, though.
