All the comments about grips (mostly NAA), got me to finally redo the grips I made in 2016 for my Charter Arms. I originally just drew out the Rubber grips in profile and made a pair out of Walnut. (picture with the steel screw) Well, they never fit my fat hands with short fingers, and eventually, I took them off and rounded some short rubber carry grips. They were OK, but still not wood. So this weekend, I went and found the walnut ones and did a do-over; more sculpted, and smaller, especially at the last finger, to fit. Now they are back on the gun to stay (picture with the brass screw). That is, unless I decide to make another set...Hmm...

Looks good Al. Makes me wish I had the skills to sculpt my own grips.

Nice work Al, I feel the same as Joe, wish I could do what you do. :)

Beautiful job CanoeAl  , myself I haven't tackled a full size revolver yet I'm chicken I think . I have two thick (1/2 in.) tall and wide pieces of pre-band elephant tusk but like I said I'm chicken  . It's going to take a lot more contemplation . :)
TO ARMS , TO ARMS the liberal socialists are coming . Load and prime your weapons . Don't shoot till you see their UN patches or the Obama bumper stickers , literally . And shoot any politician that says he wants to help you or us .

Even if I was any good at this sort of thing OV1D, I would find a reputable grip maker nearby to do it for you.

I have a guy near me who has worked in real Ivory before, pre-ban he was given to make grips for a 1911 for a guy then he used what was left, only because the original guy told him to keep it or he would have given it back, to make inlays on other folks grips.  It was a very nice looking pair of 1911 grips IMO too.

Yep, I only mess with my own, and only when I have extra pieces, the shop can't use... When I first started on this set, I had two I cut, with nice figure in the bottom of the grip...Then, when I worked the inside, I realised I had made the inside cut for two right sides of the grip... Played with some Maple and 1 cracked. You do need to be very careful...Just My experience...I am not ready for prime time, but I am persistent...

Anyway, if you wind up being too chicken to use that pre-ban Ivory, drop me a PM.  ;D
