A new gun for me and one for the Mrs.

She wanted a flame thrower but at 5 feet tall I don't think it would be prudent  ;)

So The S & W .22c fits her requirements better.  Easy slide, low recoil, small-ish size

The threaded barrel helped seal the deal when I told her that a suppressor can be attached! She was ok with that.

Now I'm on the hunt for suppressor!  ;)  Got to keep the Mrs. happy! lol!

The Browning 1911 .380  has been on my want list for some time.  This was listed as used but it shows no signs of being fired.

This is my first .380 so I bought a few boxes of Sig Ammo to run through to check it out.

Range report and Holster Photos to follow in a couple weeks.

Rick,
There are a number of nice, small 22 lr suppressors out there. Wait time for the tax stamp is about 9+ months.

Ummm, your wife, does she have an older sister that is single??????????????

Hi Top Dog,

This is the first time I've seriously looked at suppressors. I know very little about which are good vs. bad ones.

There are some that can be cleaned, others cannot be disassembled? This is a whole new school and trying not to get caught up in the marketing BS.

I do want to get it bought sooner than later, I know the wait time is 9 to as long as 11 months.  She is going to want to do some damage with her new gun ASAP! lol!!  :o

One local gun shop rents part of the local range one day a month and brings everyones suppressor's out for you to have a "conjugal visit" with it.  ;)

So, I'm in research mode with suppressors!  Maybe RogueTS1 will jump in. He seems to have some experience with them! lol!!  ;)

BTW.... She does have a single older sister (widowed.) She lives in Costa Rica and owns a small coffee estate. She is a spitfire as well!  ;)

Dead Air Odessa9  - works from .22->9mm... 11 sections so you can 'tune' to your ammo/caliber... quality build...

a bit pricey though...

the cheapest i could find was the Rebel SOS V2 for .22... five pieces, easy to break down - perhaps not so easy to clean (rimfire)

i get conjugal visits over the next 12 months at the range...

Good choices !

I've long had a .380 Browning Model 1955 that runs like a top......

Rick,
There are many quality 22 LR suppressors out there. And yes,22 LR suppressors do need cleaning and they must be disassembled for that process.

Some folks use sonic cleaners but I found that using NAPA gel hand cleaner works just fine. A medium application with some minor scrubbing and all cleans up well.

I have a TAC-65 for my Walther P-22 and a Ruger ISB for the 10/22TD and have had no problems at all.

Rick,
We need to talk about the CAN.  Form 1 (make your Own) only takes about 30 days for approval.  Yes there are companies that sell "Parts" that make it easier to do.... One of the hardest parts is putting the serial number on it.  I know a guy that has a laser here in Phoenix that could handle that for you...  You have a drill press, that is about all it takes.

I am with Ken on this one. It is only a .22 so if you want it fast e-file a Form 1 and make it yourself. You can get the supplies online for relatively inexpensive and then once your stamp arrives you drill out the marked center spots to the appropriate size and fit it together. The engraving can be had for very, very little money in NC by a laser engraving firm. ($35.00 or so)

E-file will take about 6 weeks.  8)

Google "Solvent Trap Kits" then choose for yourself based upon materials, price and cosmetics. Remember you are only dealing with .22 so lighter weight components will work just fine. Aluminium will be plenty strong enough, lighter on the end of a light .22 and very inexpensive.

For your viewing perusal take a look at https://solventtrapcups.com/product/maglite-dry-storage-cups/#iLightbox[gallery_image_1]/-1 There are more than a few more out there. This is just one of the shops I use for certain parts.

The site is a tad difficult to navigate but the photos are good and the products are top notch. I would be looking into C-cell sizes rather than D-cell. Anyway this will give you a good start on how to do things.

PS: just remember that if you call them with any questions, do not ever tell them you are making a can. It shuts down the conversation very quickly far too often. You are simply wanting a quality "Solvent Trap." ;)  ;D  8)

QuoteIs one better than another?

Only to a point. If the firm you use can run a decent machine shop the tubes will be more than good enough. Where the real "better" comes from is when it comes to the baffles. Some places make simple baffles while others such as the above shop make some very intricate K baffles as well as other forms. The better the baffle system the better the can will work but remember once again that we are only dealing with .22 so one does not really need to spend a bunch on baffles if they do not want to.

I prefer K baffles for my rifle round designs; it gives better suppression but I have a new old style MAC can for my Ingram. It has very simple baffles and spacers but it works great. Vewy, vewy quiet while hunting wabbits.  ;D

So choose your baffles knowing that they will not have to do very much with your .22 lr rounds. Just make sure they come from a firm that makes their tolerances close. The baffles are what sit on the inside of the can and we do not want them wiggling around while one is firing rounds through it.  ::)

22 should be easy build.  Drill press about all you need. Much faster, still cost for the stamp...

I bet Bert could do some laser work for you!

The 22c is a great little pistol.  Just about the same size as a 9mm shield,  I use it as a cheaper to shoot trainer for the 9mm.

Thanks for the link Thom.

Ordered one up from Wally World.  Before it gets here I'll start the paperwork!
(I'm too pretty to go to jail!) lol!!

BTW, took the new .22c shooting this week and a friend happened to have his can with him so I twisted it on and ran through a couple magazines.

What a fun little gun! Quiet and accurate.  Mrs. Gun Leather is gonna love it!

i thought about the solvent trap route, but i don't have any place to shoot by myself outdoors or in the middle of nowhere... so i bit the bullet and paid the tax... pretty crazy to think that $40 worth of machined aluminum retails for just a dollar less than the federal tax stamp...

these rimfire suppressors are not fun to clean, but i give the CLP a chance to work, use a bronze brush and a sharpened bamboo dowel and get the job down in an hour (suppressor had about 300 rounds through it, so it had a bit of carbon build-up)...

but i like the 'solvent trap' design... it's cool that you can adjust the size of the can to suit your needs... this pic of is my Ruger Mkiii w/the Paclite threaded barrel w/the whole enchilada and then two 'solvent trap' sections removed:

I do like the idea of two parts . But like all Ruger bases they all shoot like dreams come true . Nice score Linux ......... That's my next mod a red dot scope .
TO ARMS , TO ARMS the liberal socialists are coming . Load and prime your weapons . Don't shoot till you see their UN patches or the Obama bumper stickers , literally . And shoot any politician that says he wants to help you or us .

Rick_Jorgenson

Well the M&P .22c ran CCI ammo perfectly with and without a suppressor. (Suppressor belongs to a friend that brought it to the range for me to try)

I have parts on order from Walmart for making a "Solvent Trap" model.

This is a group shot at 30' with the suppressor.

I have to admit, I'm surprised that I hit the plate! and in a nice little group (for me anyway!) lol!

I would have never thought of Walmart for finding a good Solvent Trap. Will wonders never cease?  ;D
