Ranger II Latch Too Easy to Release?

Apparently there has been ample discussion about the possibility of releasing the Ranger II Latch, while thumbing the Hammer!

I'm guessing It Depends!... Just like some people instinctively use the pad of their Trigger Finger... and some go back to the first knuckle, or further....
Some People are using the tip of their thumb to cock the hammer, and some are using further back on the pad of their thumb.

Obviously, the Ranger II Latch is SAFE!... IF the Thumb placement DOES NOT Span the gap between the Hammer Spur and Latch!

Apparently, Schofields had the Same Problem!
The Army Schofield was Specifically Designed for Cavalry Use!... It provided Easier Loading and Unloading than the Colt Single Action Army (SAA)... While Riding and Reining a Horse!

However, Cavalry Soldiers also often wore Gauntlet Gloves.

The First Model Schofield had a Fairly Sharp Latch, configured as a Blade Rear Sight.
The Second Model Schofield had a Modified Latch with a "Scooped-Out Relief" to avoid Thumb Engagement.

The Ranger II has a bit of a Blend of the two Schofield Latches!

Miniaturization didn't leave much room for Sculpting the Latch!

By the way... The Rear Screw on the Latch Bar/Cylinder Retainer has a Cam Cut on the Screw Shaft.
Turn the Screw 180°... and the Rear of the Bar Pivots Up to Clear the Cylinder for Removal!

Kimber1911...

Unfortunately those Schofields ARE NOT Mine!... Just Beautiful Originals i snagged copies of posted Pics!

The Original Schofield I used to have was an uncut 2nd Model Grey Gun... similar to the attached photo.

I got a good deal from a San Francisco Dealer, because it was Missing the Extractor Mechanism, and the grips were worn half gone!

Fortunately, Cimarron Firearms was carrying the Dimensional  Correct Armi San Marco Schofield at the time.
I was able to order Drop-In Needed Replacement Parts to Restore Mechanical Function!

While working on it, I discovered the Previous Owner had assembled the Hinge with the Extractor Cam Reversed... Preventing the Extractor from returning flush with the breech of the Cylinder!

Trying to Force-Close the Action would have bent the Original Extractor!

Never got around to trying it with Black Powder Cartridges before having to sell it in 2008 to keep the Roof Overhead!

I had a Pair of Original Commercial (Civilian) Russians at the time, I used to shoot with Black Powder Cartridges at Cowboy Action Shooting!... Also sold in 2008!  :(

By the way... My Current 5" Uberti Schofield feels like a Tank, compared to that Original Schofield!
Uberti Increased the dimensions about 5% to Accommodate 44-40 and 45 Colt Cartridges!

I was Stationed at the San Francisco Coast Guard Air Station 1969 to 1972.
I had a 1965 Pontiac LeMans Convertible at the time.

I literally Drove INTO a San Francisco Street one night!  :o
I was approaching one of those steep uphill streets, and saw "Scars" in the Asphalt... Made the mistake of "Panic" tapping my Brakes... My Front Bumper put another "Scar" in that Street!  :-[

I drove up and down Lombard Street one weekend in 1968 when I was stationed at Ft. Ord.  I also had to check out Coit tower which was known locally as "Coit's Last Erection."

And that before Viagra.
Drove down that street once and it was way cool. Kinda sad they're charging a toll now.

I went up to the top of Coit Tower, while stationed at CGAS SanFran... Looked down one side...

There was a house below with a Sundeck Roof...
Several Shapely Gals were Sunbathing... WITHOUT Tan Lines!
