Have any of you shot the Federal .30 Super Carry?  Right now as far as I know it only comes in S&W  M&P Shield Plus or Nighthawk. Nighthawk is way to much money.    https://www.federalpremium.com/30supercarry.html   https://www.smith-wesson.com/product/mp-shield-plus?sku=13474&preselect=true  ---------- I am looking for a carry gun. The Shield is a little bigger than I want  but at 16+1  I like that. I have shot the Shield in 9mm and like it. The other I am looking at is the Ruger  LCP MAX  .380 . More the size I want and at 10+1 or 12+1 I like that.  https://ruger.com/products/lcpMax/models.html  -- Don't worry Mini will still be in the pocket.

From what I've read, the .30 Super Carry is just a .32 ACP magnum. Think the .32 NAA. I can't imagine the recoil being very pleasant.

On rugerforum.net the LCP Max .380 has some posts about the slide not locking back on last round. Ruger has been replacing mags for that. Recent production should have that already addressed.

I'll stick with my .32 Barely Adequate Carry Guardian... ::)

Sell me on the Guardian.    .380.  Would like more than 6 rounds.   The 10 round extended mag would defeat it's purpose as a pocket gun?

I couldn't sell myself on the .380. Compared to the .32 -
It's 6 ounces heavier loaded than the .32 is loaded. It's 1/2" longer and 1/4" taller. Slightly (only 1/10") thicker. People describe it as "snappy", "one mag is all I could take". Complaints of trigger slap. The 380 has 30% more energy, but that's what causes the hefty recoil. It has about 20% higher velocity, but somehow 10% worse penetration. HPs expand very little if any in either pistol, so they're better with FMJ. Bullet weight is 95 gr versus 71.
You have 7 rounds with either gun, 6+1. The extended mag does kind of kill the size for carry, and NAA recommends loading it one round short for better feed. I don't have one, but might be nice at the range?

I researched them for 2 weeks before I decided on my first 32. The weight and recoil made up my my mind. You may feel differently. The first trip to the range decided buying a second one. IMHO, .380 is best in a PPK size pistol.

Is yours   32NAA or ACP?  NAA ammo is hard to get.  I already load  .380.  Can load for recoil some what. I have had nothing but good luck with my NAAs and service is the best and fast.  I have not trained for carry yet. Don't know if more than 6 rounds would do much good. Most bad guys won't stand and fight.

Mine is .32 ACP. No one is producing either NAA round anymore, and brass is very scarce. Jessica posted that they were working on a new supplier since Cor-Bon dropped it, but nothing more has been said.

You may like the .380 ACP, you can't go by my choice. I don't even like .38 Special in a SP101. I guess I'm recoil lazy.

Reminds me, Rick had decided to try reloading the NAAs, and he hasn't mentioned it for a while.

I'm not seeing this cartridge doing anything that a standard 9 MM can't do. Another solution to a non existent problem.

heyjoe

i agree . I don't see any advantage of a 380 over a 32 acp in a guardian sized handgun. I do see a big disadvantage, more recoil.

Paul Herrel had a test of the .30SC a month or so ago. Exec summary: unless you have some pressing need for an extra round in the magazine and are willing to accept performance just slightly below 9mmP, just stick with 9mmP: the co$t savings in the long run will more than make up for any FOMO of the .30SC novelty factor...
