Those English chaps know how to dress well.  You can tell a quality tailor by his English accent.

I actually prefer the broad brimmed style pith helmet.  More keeping with the original style.

And come to think of it, I do recall mentioning a Webley-Fosbury automatic revolver on this forum.

Thank you for the bump definition. I have seen it typed out but never understood it. Hearing it brings it back up to the top of the lists makes sense now. Thank you again for the lesson.

Not to be confused with bump firing.

Alligator attack on kayak.  I'm guessing it was an inflatable kayak.

You never know, back in '05 or '06 a deer showed up in one of the shopping malls in a DC suburb.  Trashed two stores before the animal control officers could get there.

Ok guys, it took me a while to remember where this was stowed and dig it out.  USMC issue I don't know what I did with the cap device its around somewhere.  Semper Fi.

Dinadan

I saw the story about the alligator attacking and deflating the inflatable kayak. I have never much cared for inflatables myself - now I have another reason not to like them. I know that a shark could bite the end off my kayak, but I do not go out into shark water all that often and never into the seriously deep offshore water.

Very nice.  8)

yeah i didnt get using an inflatable kayak in a swamp with alligators. besides the alligator biting the kayak, you could easily hit submerged, trees, branches or roots and get a hole in it. i would imagine that it wouldnt be possible to walk out of some areas that you paddle into. and it wouldnt be a place that you would want to have to swim out of.

Heyjoe that kayak looked like a Folbot or similar brand. My folbot g2 has a pretty tough skin, it's hypalon on the bottom and sides and fabric on the top. The only inflatable part is a longitudinal air bladder on each side that is inflated after the skin is in place over the aluminum frame. It probably provides as much protection from an angry gator as any sit on top or conventional kayak. I have paddled many miles on the Santee and Cooper rivers and here on Lake Moultrie and have yet to be bothered by an alligator.  A few years ago I startled an eight footer as I rounded a bend and he jumped off the steep bank over the bow of my boat, but he was trying to get away from me as a perceived threat. I always carry my sp101 .357 or BW with me JIC

Dinadan

I also have had the experience of rounding a sharp bend in a narrow bayou and startling an alligator into jumping into the water. It would be interesting if one landed on my kayak! I like seeing them, and I think they are just like snakes in that a snake you see is not dangerous unless you mess with it. I think that an alligator you see is not going to be dangerous - it is the one that sneaks up because it thinks you are prey that would be dangerous. Usually they keep their distance, though sometimes if I just let my kayak drift they let me come close.

Quote from: G50AE on July-02-13 18:07Funny how on this forum I end up talking about pocket watches, waistcoats and pith helmets.  I guess NAA firearms are perfect for high society.

I also had chance to mention spats on another thread.

We have had a few spats here, of the angry outburst kind.

No bivalve larva around here since BW got banned ...

I think I may have had to wear the gaiter type spat a few times back in boot camp in 1973 ...

Pocket watches and waistcoats are good attire! I prefer the western style leather waistcoat - pocket watch in left pocket, pocket knife in right pocket, NAA Magnum Mini in inside left pocket.

Maybe I'll need to invest in a good walking stick as well.

Funny, but I was saying the same thing just last night. I want a martial arts grade walking stick, not an ornamental accessary.

Hopefully Coldsteel can provide Dinadan with his walking stick fix.  And maybe he can pick up a nice pocket knife there too.

Heyjoe that's aI fine looking rig you've got there.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine. Patriotjoe does first class work and I sure am proud to have my own huckleberry rig made by him.

heyjoe

yes i am very happy with the quality. top notch. done in a few days to boot who can beat that.  its very convenient to wear and access under a coat, jacket, or coveralls while digging out a fire scene brother sc buxton.

Hey Joe little off subject but did you know a Gene Schoenleber with the Department up there ? Was I think a battalion commander or something back about 40 some odd years or more ? A big heavy set Irish German fella .

Very nice guns and holsters, Heyjoe. Looking at your gear it seems that you go for high quality and utility.

thanks dinadan. your photo of your huckleberry is the reason i have one now. the basketweave design on the holster and other designs on the strap are really nice. i wasnt sure i would qualify for the lone star pendants though.
