So I spot my first 3 NAA minis in a gun store back in January and go back the next day and buy my Wasp, can't take it with me (NY) until it's on my permit. A couple of days later I picked up 2 different boxes of 22 mag at the Syracuse gun show, 1 Hornady critical defense and something else, so all seems good. Love shooting the wasp and stay on the lookout for more ammo, none to be had. My neighbor gives me a box, all the while I'm shooting conservatively to preserve what ammo I have. My neighbor sells me 2 more boxes. Still can't find any anywhere else. I've owned the gun for 10 months and have yet to find or be able to buy 1 box of 22 mag at any store. It's cost prohibitive to purchase it online and have it shipped because it has to be shipped to an FFL in NY. I've heard all the crap about move out of state and what a nuisance I have to deal with... All other calibers including 22LR can be had. My patience is running out. I bought this gun for self defense and that means practice. So, do I continue to hope for a let up on the shortage, or sell the Wasp?

Any surrounding states close ? Can you buy from another state with your N.Y. residency , myself I have no idea if you can but that sounds to be your only possibility . N.H. , PA. , N.J. are friendly I believe . Otherwise your S.O. L.  Good luck . :) :) :)
TO ARMS , TO ARMS the liberal socialists are coming . Load and prime your weapons . Don't shoot till you see their UN patches or the Obama bumper stickers , literally . And shoot any politician that says he wants to help you or us .

Have somebody you know out of state buy some for you and ship it to you. Should not be costly, especially if the friend lives in a more affordable state than NY.

I see it all the time in the last few months here in CT.

In the spring I vacationed in PA and found a few boxes there too.

We have property in NY and I agree, every time I am there I look and all I get are smirks and smart alek answers...  One place I have seen it was Gander Mountain.

Is it legal for a NY resident to buy ammunition in another state? Seems like that would be way too easy to beat the system. Is it legal for a person in another state to send a care package to someone in NY? Probably not.

While I agree with the shipping part. But the buying part, most states don't ask for any ID, they look at ya, see your old "enough" and sell it to ya.
If you read the letter of the law, I am sure they would be required to abide by the law for the state you reside in.

The PA guys earlier this spring never asked to see my ID. Funny thing is, while my wife and I was standing in one store, the counter guy turned away two guys who asked to see a hand gun. It was a Glock 380. He looked at me pulled it out, said he just got it in and handed it to me with no other words spoken.  ;) ;D Now, I do carry a permit to carry there a well as a permit to carry here in CT, but I had never set foot in that store before. It was not asked for so it was not shown.

the lack of 22 magnum and 22 lr is a nationwide phenemenon. i travelled to new mexico and back and never saw any on the shelves of the stores i went into. there is no  problem buying it here when you can find it. there are people who go every morining to walmart to buy all the 22 they will sell them before it even hits the shelf, then selling it either online or elsewhere.  this is going on every morning in every walmart. you cant buy ammo anymore in connecticut unless you have a connecticut permit. same thing for new jersey and massachusetts. you can still buy what you want in pennsylvannia and vermont.
It's too bad that our friends cant be here with us today

I'm also having a hard time finding WMR. If it's out there online usually the shipping costs kill you. The couple of LGS's around me sometimes have it, but kill you on the pricing when they do. But since my Pug is a magnum if I want to shoot it I just have to bend over and pay the price. :'(

Thanks for the responses, it's good to know we are not the only ones. That said I may still take a different direction in my very small defense gun. I took my daughter shooting today. First time she ever shot handguns- my Wasp and my S&W 640 38spl. She came away saying it was intimidating (not to bad) and the Wasp was harder to hang on to. No surprises. Neither gun is particularly good for an inexperienced shooter. I am intrigued with the 1911 platform, I really don't care for striker fired guns, but 1911s are beyond budget for a little while longer. I saw a Sig Sauer P238 this week, 380 ammo is readily available, and it closely mimics the 1911 platform at a third the price of the 1911 I like. So it would set me on track with the operation of the 1911 platform, fill my mini need with a smidgen more firepower. Gotta justify a new gun somehow;). So if anyone would like a 10 month old Wasp with accessories and ammo, PM me for details and pics. The Sig is pricey and partially funding it with Wasp money would help with the change. If I really like the Sig I may sell the J frame to help fund the 1911 I like later on. I want to stay with one platform for self defense and I don't need or want to own more than 2 handguns at a time.

ADK, I have a S&W body guard 380. It is a very good shooting gun and reasonably priced. They can be bought for around $379.00. That would get you the 380 and you might be able to keep the wasp. Also while I visiting family in Ohio I found 22mag at a gun store in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio and bought a case of it. So ....ROAD TRIP!

On hold for the moment, acquired a box of 22 mag with encouraging words from a friend. You all will be the first to know if I decide to sell.

Well, I found an LGS with 22mag (not Armscor) for the first time since buying my Wasp. I've got as much of a stash as I want now, at least for 5 or 6 months I'd say. Frustrations relieved for now.

Glad that you had success finding some .22 magnum ammo.  The dealers around here keep it tucked away in the back and only offer it for sale if you are buying a gun.  It is all a bit frustrating.

This post would be a lot easier to read if the poster had capitalized the first letter of the first word of every sentence.  When typing on a computer keyboard, to produce capitalized letters hold down the [SHIFT] key and type the letters that you wish to appear as capitalized.  To resume typing lower case, or non-capitalized, letters, simply release the [SHIFT] key.  Note that the keyboard will have two [SHIFT] keys, one on each side of the lettered key area of the keyboard.  It is not necessary to hold down both [SHIFT] keys, one will suffice.

seems everyone is trying to save a buck when it comes to using lots of ammo and who else uses lots but all the worlds militaries I figure theres going to be some time if ever 22 stocks to come back from yesteryear stocks so buy whatever whenever anybody sees any only the expensive stuff will be available in any real quantity when things do settle down after the elections I suppose . I would bet winchester will be a big foreign supplier in the long run now who wants to go into the 22 ammo business ?  maybe our learned g50ae is up for the job ?

Are you talking about the clerk at Walmart? All the ones around here usually could not tell you where they s--t last, much less anything of real importance.

its a little hard to get sometimes,,,however the walmart where I live in ohio had lots of 22 lr. and a lot others Friday,,,no 22 mag. however a good over all selection,,,,sportsman den in Shelby ohio will most likely have 22 mag.in stock and 22 lr.,,,the 22 mag. might not be self defn. stuff like crit. defn. ect.but it will most likely be something good enough,,,i got some hornady v max 30gr.,,,and some other stuff recently,,,i have a lot of 22 lr.all kinds,,,,i would like to get hold of the speer gold dot self defn. stuff in 22 mag. I think its 40 gr.ive had that one before it doesn't key hole near as much as the 45 gr. crit. defn. hornady...

Reading the first part of this thread, I feel sorry for you "back East-ers".  I couldn't live in a state with all those gun/ammo ownership hoops to jump through.  What happened to the 2nd Amendment?  Oh...that's right, lawyers got involved.
I know, I know...coming soon to a state near you.   >:( >:(

after months of nothing, any where, .22 ammo is just starting to be available in both LR & mag here in central NC.  however, I too would like to get hold of the speer gold dot self defn. stuff in 22 mag.  so give me a shoutout if you find it or get notified on gunbot before me.  did find some federal 40 grn LR at gander mountain and was told it was sitting at the register in the gun dept to ask for it there.  supply was limited while it lasted to one box a day per customer. so take a friend with you.  but call first.
