GUNS GONE WILD -- ATF'S GOOD INTENTIONS GONE BAD

Obama's Solution: New Gun Control Measures

"The ultimate authority ... resides in the people alone. ... The advantage of being armed, which the Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation ... forms a barrier against the enterprises of ambition." --James Madison

In January of this year, Federal Judge John Roll, a Republican nominated by President George H.W. Bush, was among six citizens murdered by a psychopath in Tucson. Democrat Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was among 14 wounded in that attack.

Predictably, Barack Hussein Obama and his Leftist cadres in the Democrat Party were quick to convert the Tucson tragedy into political fodder to formulate a new round of "common sense" gun control legislation. Indeed, Obama claimed the Tucson assault should "at least be the beginning of a new discussion on how we can keep America safe for all our people." He went on, "I believe that if common sense prevails, we can get beyond wedge issues and stale political debates to find a sensible, intelligent way [to confiscate guns]."

But Obama's nefarious plan to undermine the Second Amendment was well underway many, many months prior to the Tucson murders -- and well below the radar. In fact, anti-gun activist Sarah Brady said that Obama told her, "I just want you to know that we are working on [gun control]. ... We have to go through a few processes, but under the radar."

Why would Obama want to be so clandestine with his anti-2A agenda?

In recent decades, Democrats have suffered serious electoral and judicial setbacks when trying to enact gun control measures. Given the lack of broad support for such measures, Obama is silently advancing the Socialist agenda to disarm Americans and, ultimately, neutralize our ability to defend Essential Liberty.

calvin2

In March of this year, I detailed insider accounts regarding Project Gunrunner, a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives operation begun in 2005, which originally had the objective of tracking weapons transfers between the U.S. and Mexico in order to expose Mexican drug cartels.

However, in early 2009, the Obama administration determined that the original purpose of Gunrunner could be altered in order to provide a new mandate for implementing their gun control rationale: Stopping the flow of "assault weapons" into Mexico. To facilitate that agenda, Attorney General Eric Holder authorized operation "Fast and Furious," that set into motion an ATF plan to encourage and enable "straw purchase" firearm sales to arms traffickers, and allow the guns to make their way into the hands of violent Mexican drug cartel assassins.

Holder determined that he could manufacture a case that guns purchased in the U.S. were responsible for all the violence in Mexico. Then Obama could use that "evidence" to make the argument that, in order to stem the violence, more stringent gun control measures were necessary, starting incrementally with restricting gun sales in Border States. As Demo Rep. Carolyn McCarthy put it, "[Obama] is with me on [gun control], and it's just going to be when that opportunity comes forward that we're going to be able to go forward."

The "opportunity" was moving forward unabated until one of the ATF's Fast and Furious guns was used last December to murder U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry, and other guns were used in the February ambush of Immigration and Customs Agents Jaime Zapata and Victor Avila by Los Zetas Cartel soldiers in Mexico. Agent Zapata was killed in that assault.

I should note here that in all accounts from my sources within ATF, clearly the agents involved at the tactical level of Gunrunner and F&F were under the impression that these operations were legitimate efforts to identify transit lines between the U.S. and members of Los Zetas and other Mexican drug cartels.

However, at the strategic (high-level management) levels of the ATF in Arizona and Texas, it was well understood that Holder had a scheme to use this operation to jumpstart Obama's gun control scheme. (In a March 2010 ATF memo, agents reported that the managers in charge of Fast and Furious were "jovial, if not giddy" over news that ATF guns were associated with murders in Mexico.)

There is new evidence that Holder even used "stimulus debt" to launch "Operation Castaway" in Florida -- putting guns into the hands of the world's most brutal transnational gang, Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) -- to generate additional "supporting evidence" for Obama's gun control mandate.

Recall if you will, Democrat outrage when Oliver North, working for the Reagan administration, ran a clandestine operation selling arms to Middle East bad guys so they could kill other bad guys over there, and then used some of the sales proceeds to fund the good guys in Central America fighting against Marxists south of our border. No such Democrat angst is evident this time.

Obama and Holder are moving forward with their subterfuge with no concern about rebuke. Moreover, they are doing so as if agents Terry and Zapata were still walking the line.

Last Thursday, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney announced, "The president directed the attorney general to form working groups with key stakeholders to identify common-sense measures that would improve Americans' safety and security while fully respecting Second Amendment rights. That process is well underway at the Department of Justice with stakeholders on all sides working through these complex issues. And we expect to have some more specific announcements in the near future."

Well underway, indeed. Lost amid the din of all the extra-constitutional federal tax-n-spend debates this week, Obama spared Democrat congressional action on gun control by unilaterally circumventing the Second Amendment via an Executive Order. You guessed it -- he decreed new restrictions on gun sales in California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. Holder's Deputy Attorney General, James Cole, claimed that Obama's EO would help the ATF disrupt illegal weapons trafficking networks between the U.S. and Mexico.

Meanwhile, there's a growing list of serious crimes committed in the U.S. with ATF guns that were thought to be in Mexico.

calvin2

As Obama ramps up additional gun control measures, I would remind him that the first shots of the American Revolution were fired in response to the government's attempt to disarm American colonists, specifically to capture and destroy arms and supplies stored by the Massachusetts militia in the town of Concord.

As reflected in James Madison's words regarding the "ultimate authority" for defending liberty, our Founders fully understood that to secure Liberty, "the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed."

As Madison's Supreme Court appointee, Justice Joseph Story, wrote in his 1833 "Commentaries on the Constitution," "The right of the citizens to keep and bear arms has justly been considered as the palladium of the liberties of a republic; since it offers a strong moral check against the usurpation and arbitrary power of rulers; and will generally, even if these are successful in the first instance, enable the people to resist and triumph over them."

The Second Amendment was and remains "The Palladium of Liberties."

Those who are foolishly willing to compromise Essential Liberty to pursue Obama's illusion of safety, in the timeless judgment of Benjamin Franklin, "deserve neither liberty nor safety."

Seriosly, this President could not tie his shoes without screwing it up. If he continues on the road that he is on, as I am quite sure he will, the next election will be a landslide of never before seen proportions. The American people are watching closer than they ever have, at what is going on....AND THEY ARE NOT HAPPY!

The media, even the lefty media, wants to know what happened with this operation and it is quite clear that Eric Holder has outright LIED when he said he had no knowledge of the operation. This arrogant administration continues to do damage to our country blatantly right in out faces and expects that nothing will be said or done, as usual... It is not looking like this one will be swept under the carpet very easily. How wonderful would it be if Holder and even the President got endighted for this!

"Seriosly, this President could not tie his shoes without screwing it up.    Funny but you could have heard this EXACT statement right before the '04 elections in reference to Bush.  Not trying to argue just making a point...

westerly1965

For the record I agree with you Chopps I was just sayin....  hopefully your right and the people will vote him out.  (Not that I think it will make any difference in the direction that our country is headed but at least a "righty" will stop working on gun control "under the radar".)  Heck a true Conservative might even do some good but I haven't actually seen one of those for many many years...

chopprs

You are absolutely right, I thought Bush was an idiot at one point. Now in retrospect, seeing the outcome of some of his actions, not so much. He was not the best President that we ever had but now it is easy to see that he is far from the worst! This guy however, is an abominable idiot of never seen proportions. The answers that he gives to some very good questions at press meetings and the legislation that he has not only passed but proposed are the actions of a dolt. He is an inexperienced child who has fumbled his way to be incharge of the world and as any other child would do in his place, he is screwing up big time.....far worse than Bush could have ever dreamed of!

silvershooter

and if I remember right Bush was up against DEM controlled Senate and H.of Reps

Bush annoyed me, but it's not a popularity contest. I liked the tax cuts(I'm not even close to rich), and the only other thing that stands out in my mind presently is that he was friendly to the 2nd Amendment, even signing a law to prevent future wholesale confiscations of guns from private citizens after natural disasters like Katrina.

Mr. Obama talks compromise, but truthfully it's his way or else. He definitely makes threats, he appears to hold grudges, and he's an all-around hyprocrite. He'll say "we need to quit the political rhetoric", and a few breaths later say "Republicans want to starve the children and steal granny's medicare",,,,anyone surprised the media never calls him out...they loved him, now they like him and are probably a little scared of his temper.

westerly1965

Actually Silver that is an errant statement Bush was not "up against DEM controlled senate or H of reps"  In fact for the first 6 years as he drove a busload of bs at a rapid pace towards a disastrous cliff it was in fact a REP controlled Senate and H. of Reps that didn't change until 2006 when the people finally said enough of this bs and tried to make a change.  (Not that it did any good mind you but that was the mindset.)  Then he was up against a DEM controlled senate and house that he would not work with and we had two years of lame duck.  That said it wasn't all bad as he was not allowed to do any more damage then he had already done.

The Bush Tax cuts are what started our downward spiral.  The revenues that were cut from the federal budget by his tax cuts for the rich are the revenues that "should" have kept the budget balanced.  Remember when he sent out all the tax return checks in his first year and squandered a surplus?  Or has everyone forgotten about that?  Obama is a spineless coward if he had a backbone he would have stood by his statement that he would let those tax cuts expire and our revenues would be higher putting us into a significantly better position (mind you still not good but better then where we are).  Would that change the fact that we need to cut spending?  Hell no!  But it would help with our current crisis.  The reality is simple you repeal the Bush tax cuts and the rich will still be paying less then they did under Reagan.  Reagan is every conservatives hero so his tax plan must have been perfect right?  Why screw with it?

Chops~I am not sure that I can agree with Obama screwing up far worse then Bush ever could have dreamed of.  I don't like him either but again I am a realist.  The simple fact is that we wouldn't be where we are were it not for Bush's 2 count em 2 unneeded wars.  The spending that has gone into Iraq and Afghanistan is and always was unsupportable.  Had we not squandered trillions on unwinable war we would be in waaaayyyyyy better shape then we are now fiscally plain and simple.

The lesson here is to remember that it was not all Obama's fault as it is not all Bush's fault but rather a culmination of bad politics that "We The People" have simply allowed to go on for to long.  At our current rate our once great nation will be bankrupt sooner rather then later.  Likely there will be another revolution here before my days are gone.  I fear for my children and the children of my friends and family.  We MUST stop this machine we call government before it is to late but I am afraid that we may be to far past that point.  The next ten years will tell the tale.

Always remember that it is no longer left vs right it is us against them and we are losing at an alarming rate.......

silvershooter

so the Repubs ran both houses for 6 of his 8 years west? well I guess I remembered that wrong.

with regards to this statement: "The Bush Tax cuts are what started our downward spiral." I have to disagree wholeheartedly. WHY did Obama renew the Bush tax cuts if they were so bad??

and from my perspective, 1-- Greenspan artificially kept the economy from self-correcting(like when wildfires are supressed until finally when one does break out it's MUCH worse). and more importantly 2-- THE housing boom/bubble was allowed to inflate until it finally burst. THAT was caused by FANNIE and FREDDIE and the likes of Dem. Barnie FRANK, Pelosi, and others. They forced banks(also partly responsible for bad practices) to keep the credit flowing to those who could not afford the homes. I saw the Housing Boom in FL in person. I worked installing Telecommunications lines for a never-ending flood of condos and other residential housing. People were buying and flipping houses hand over fist, some sight unseen from other countries. Like a pyramid scheme, it eventually ended.

I don't remember a lot of specifics of President Reagans policies, but according to what I just read....timeline:  1981 takes office, 1982 U.S. has worst recession since great depression, 1984 Reagan submitted a fiscal budget that reduced taxes--for which he caught a lot of flak but remained firm, 1986 Congress and Reagan closed some tax loop holes and also reduced the top tax rates. Of note, the House of Reps was held by the Dems his entire time in office 81-89; and the Senate from 87-89.

Reagan felt Big Government was the problem and should get out of the way. The biggest expense I remember from his presidency was in Defense(the arms race against the USSR). We paid a price in debt in order to break the Soviets financially. Fortunately we won.

westerly1965

Silver I am in Kali and well versed on the housing problems we are still seeing them.  Did you read my whole statement?  I said above

"Obama is a spineless coward if he had a backbone he would have stood by his statement and let those tax cuts expire."  IF he had done that it would have helped greatly.  Did the housing bubble contribute?  You bet it did!  Can you blame that on Pelosi and her ilk sure you can!  I can't stand her either.  But had we not been wasting trillions on unwinable wars would the effects have been as bad?  Doubtful.  I agree that greenspan did a lot of damage but I think more was done when we bailed out the banks rather then letting them fail and that WAS both sides fault.  The point I am making is that this out of control bus is not just Obamas fault or that of the left the right had their hands in the cookie jar as well and now nobody wants to fess up and do what needs to be done to fix it.

We must move past the petty infighting and disagreement and the people must make a movement if we don't no matter who is in office we will continue on this train wreck....

silvershooter

It may be too late west...

I'm no Bush lover. It annoyed me to watch him speak. I'm no Obama hater. I WISH I could like him. He is a very likeable person on the surface. But...his policies are flawed and his agenda is often pretended. His misalignment of words and actions leads to confusion. Look at all the Billions we're spending in Lybia.

I would LOVE to hear President Obama say: "I want Americans to have more personal and economic freedoms. I'm shrinking the size of the Federal Government. I'm not sending Billions of Dollars oversees anymore, I'm bringing most of our troops home and assigning them to protect our borders. Our citizens in hardship and unemployed or on welfare will now be required to work for their money if they are physically able. The new tax rate is 10% across the board for everyone with NO loopholes, and I expect to virtually eliminate the IRS..." so on and so forth. I would become  one of his biggest supporters if his actions then followed his words.

But he's not Ron Paul and he's not gonna budge on his socialist agenda. And yes, some Repubs have guilty hands and mouths too.

The only ones I see doing what you suggest (make a movement to avoid a trainwreck) is the teapartiers and guys like ron paul and  senator paul ryan...and they get slammed by the left and the media.

addition* I just realized that I jumped into this political thread that was posted in the products section. I'll try to refrain from my continued ranting unless it is able to be moved to the correct section. My apologizes to Kenny and any who get offended.

chopprs

Wow, talk about a fence sitter.......

....doesn't that hurt after a while?

wildtim

Geeze West, and you wonder why in the rest of the country California republican is just another word for liberal.

westerly1965

So wildtim you think its a good idea to waste trillions on unsustainable unwinable wars and then blame that lost money on the liberals?  Obviously its a good idea to blame everything on the liberals since they must have caused every problem that has occured in the last 30 years.  You realize that since 1980 the repubs have controlled the white house far more then the liberals?  20 years as opposed to 12 and Clinton left Bush with a budget surplus and a plan to pay the national debt off.  Yea you must be right those repubs must have all the answers they have done so well thus far......with any luck in 12 the senate and the white house will flop completly to the right.  I will then be excpecting a complete repair of our problems in 6 years or less....

chopprs

.....that is all long gone. THE CURRENT FACTS ARE that since Obama has taken office literally EVERYTHING has gone in the crapper. No other President in history has seen more damage to the country on his watch and no one is going to tell me with a straight face that it is all someone elses fault. The worst problem that we have has not even come to be yet. If we are not completely bankrupt by 2014 when the Health Care Laws take effect it will surely and quickly bankrupt this country with no doubt or argument. Not only that it is going to create kaos in the health care system itself because there will be no doctors that will work for 15-20 grand a year which is what the plan pays them! He has planned this whole thing and has done everything he could along the way to get where we are. Every decision he has made has been the WRONG ONE! Some being so blatantly ridiculous that he had everything he could do to convince his own base, i.e. HCL!!!

Even the Libs are so dissatisfied that all they can do is make excuses and mock conservatives at this point. In another year when the unemployment is still close to 9% he will have lost most of his base. At this point he only has a 42% approval rate and 26% say they would vote for ANYONE but him!!!!! That is also THE WORST that any President has ever been in the polls....... I just can not understand why anyone could even explain away to themselves how this guy could be good!....not to mention his closest companions, Harry Ried who is simply a spoiled brat and Nancy Pelosi who is easily certified completely and totally insane by even a first year pshyc student !!!

   HE SUCKS, PERIOD!!!!!

Kevin

Obama is just another inexperienced Democratic party hack who was in the right place in the right time. His assets included:

   1. Being black, which helped give him a cross-party support base which he wouldn't otherwise have had.

   2. Running against Billary in the primary gave him a huge advantage in states like my Wisconsin where voters can crossover in the primary elections, where Republicans, offered a lackluster clot of Republican candidates made ensuring that Clinton lost was far more important than which Republican won the primary.

   3. That gaggle of bland retreads and wannabees from the Republican side which left us with McCain as the Republican candidate. McCain would have had a better chance against Obama had he not chosen Palin as his running mate. The idea of selecting a woman for VP was sound - drawing off female voters of all races from Obama, but he chose the wrong woman. I think McCain might have made a better President than Obama, but I also think the era of good Presidential material coming from either the Republican or Democratic political parties is over. They both are too inbred, entrenched, self-serving and corrupt (and those are their good qualities ) for the right people to rise to the presidential level.

Sooner or later enough people will stop being Republicrat sheep and form a winning 3rd party and then the Republicans and Democrats will be forced to clean house or join the ranks of the also running parties at the bottoms of ballots.

westerly1965

I think Kevin just summed it up pretty well.

Chops- I have never contended he was a good president.  In fact I have many times called him a spineless coward and a traitor.  Obamas good or bad decisions were not at all what I was referencing.  My point was exactly what Kevin just said.  It doesn't matter who runs and who wins they are all the same.  As I said above I truly hope that the senate and the whitehouse go to the right in '12.  BUT whether they do or not IMHO makes little difference.  If we could vote Obama out it might slow things down a little but the same result will eventually come to be.  Because ALL of the politicians want the SAME thing a ruling class and peasants.  That's just the reality of it.  Until the people get serious and form a real viable new party nothing can or will change.  Remember that at one time both of the current parties in our two party system were not there....

bud

Billary, I like that. LOL, Haven't heard that one before.

bud

Billary, I like that. LOL, Haven't heard that one before.

chopprs

Wes, disagree wholeheartedly. I see the Tea Party as having scared up some people who genuinely care. I see several people that are saying things that are just to straight to the point to be just good politics. We really need someone that has ballz as big as church bells in the White House AND NOW or the whole world will be in a zhit bag....and a lot sooner than most people realize! Huckabee would be great but as I am sure he knows, his outspoken religious standpoint will kill his base with a good portion of voters. A shame because he has cojones! Governor Christie would be a land slide if he ran but that is not looking good either.  There are a couple others that do look ok that are running but honestly the only one that I see truly that could do it is Perry, and he is not in, yet! He has done amazing things in Texas and he is not afraid of anyone! He even looks like a President!

westerly1965

I like Perry to and IF elected I believe he would slow things down some.  I also have always and will always like Huckabee I wish he would run.  BUT in the end it won't matter who wins all that will matter is who their handler is.  As I have said before I am a realist and I cannot trust one party to do the right thing and condemn another party for all of our problems.  Tea party?  Ok but find some likeable candidates instead of parading around Palin the illieterate like she is some kind of hero.  And watch where the funding comes from for the tea party candidates still people like the Koch brothers who do not have your best interests at heart.  Another Democrat like Clinton I could live with.  I would love to see a true conservative run but I think they might be extinct as I haven't seen one in many many years..
