Been reading about guys shooting .22 long rifle shells in the NAA Mini-Short guns. They say if you take a .22 LR and cut the bullet off at the end of the brass, what's left will fit in place of a .22 Short.

Anyone heard of this? Done it? Have an opinion?

Txbob,

I have done this a few times, But just never saw the point. The way it was done back when I first read about it 10 or so yrs. ago was to take remington yellowjacket (cone shaped) bullet's and cut the cone tip off. That left you with what looked like a .38 wadcutter. They tumbled out of my gun, and only weighed like 18 grains so I never saw the point. I just use CCI solids in my gun. I have carried a NAA short for a long time.

   P.S.

    What part of Tx?

with the .22 short tossing a 40 grain bullet at aprox 700 fps for a muzzle energy of aprox 43 ft/lbs I cannot see any reason to even consider such a thing

Thanks for your comments. I couldn't think of a good reason other than the novelty of it. Especially with the good selection of .22 short cartridges available.

Lowready, home is Plano, but since I retired we spend our winters in Fredericksburg and our summers in Wyoming.

Keith44:

Shorts have a 29 grain bullet, NOT a 40 grain.

oops I stand corrected, you are right 27 - 29 grain projectiles.

Not having done this, yet, I suspect part of the interest lies in reducing a 40 gr bullet to perhaps a 28 gr, BUT, not dropping any of the powder. I would like to see some velocity numbers and some pulled bullet weights.

Thing to do is cut down the 60gr Sub Sonics, they are loaded in a short case, you end up with a 40+ gr bullet in a short case that will fit in a short NAA.  Larry
