Hi all. On the morning of 2/23, we had a house fire. Smoke alarms going off at 4:24am. Everyone got out except for our cat. The mini below was in the tol drawer of the dresser shown, in a 1990's pocket holster. It cocks and turns, and I'll admit to firing a few rounds through it. I'm waiting on a return email from NAA, I'd like to send it in for a thorough going over, clean bill of health, and some new grips. Then, back in my pocket... Thanks for reading, just thought I'd share. Change your batteries, and function check your smoke detectors...

Ruger

Wow SCOUT . . . Great to hear you all escaped . . .sorry about the cat.  And thanks for sharing your personal tragedy with us.  We are an inclusive group - we care.  Keep us up to date when you can as to how you and family are doing, and how NAA has responded.

Scout so sorry for your loss, both your cat and house, that sucks. Looks like the mini survived with just superficial burns. Let us know what BAA does to get her back to good health.

MR_22

Dang, what a story. Sorry to hear. Hope all turns out OK. But tat's an interesting custom finish on your mini....!

seaotter

I am glad to hear that you are safe, and am  truly sorry; it must be difficult to lose so much so quickly and unexpectedly. I sincerely hope that the insurance company settled your claims quickly and equitably! Having said that, it is impressive to see how well your revolver held up! I have a number of "plastic" framed firearms, and they are ok, but there is something to said for the strength and durability of stainless steel!

Scout24

Thanks for the support, folks. NAA has sent me instructions for sending it in, with a very nice email. This was my Glock 19, about 3 feet from that dresser in a wall niche with a mirror over it...

Gog

Wow! That sucks. Scary stuff! My house is pretty old and would go up quick. Makes ya think!

heyjoe

wow, glad you are ok, im sorry about your cat. i was a firefighter for 23 years and as you know it could have been much worse. Things can be replaced but people and your cat cant. If you think the insurance company is low balling your losses you can hire an independent fire adjuster to counter their estimates of loss.

Wow, sorry to hear about this, I cannot begin to imagine the emotional upset and the chaos such a fire would cause.

I'm not a Glock fan, but even I feel sorry  for that one.

I was just reading the instructions for a new semi auto rifle and they talked about not loading ammo into a hot chamber because it can fire due to the heat. Did any of the rounds in your NAA or Glock fire from the heat?

Good luck with your insurance claims etc. I've always found that side to be hard work and stressful, hope it goes smoothly for you.

Sorry for the loss of your pet. Glad to hear the rest of the family was spared. Now that you've posted the before pic of the mini be sure and toss up an after shot when it comes back from NAA. As for the glock I think that ones a total loss  :-\

Bluelitenin

WOW!!! Sorry to hear about the fire. Glad everyone got out safely

scout

So sorry for your losses, 24.
I lost a great deal in a flood, and seeing your damage brings back a lot of pain.
Clear out the debris and don't look back, go forward.
My best to you and your family.

Oh Man,
That really sucks. My heart goes out to you.

Thank you all... It's going to be a slow process, but we'll rebuild here on our little piece of ground that we both love so much. So far so good. Blessed to get out in one piece, blessed to have recovered the few things we have. It does have the remarkable ability to bring what's important into laser like focus very quickly. Again, thank you for the support. The Mini should ship back to NAA Friday or Monday, with a two to three week turnaround time.

Ruger

Please keep us up to date as to the progress of rebuilding your lives.  We all gain so much from hearing directly from someone like yourself.  We care.

Scout,
I am so very sorry for your losses.

I am sure that a quick trip to the NAA "SPA" will have your mini in fine shape in short order.

Please keep us posted about how things are going.

Back in 2012,my home was destroyed by water, over $130,000 worth of damage. My insurance was great and everything was rebuilt plus upgraded and I only had to pay $500. deductible.

I hope that all goes well for you and the family.  Maybe a new kitten in the future???  I am sure that one needs a family like your.

Bigbird48

So is Glock gonna rebuild yours like NAA or did they say to bad for you?

Scout24

Bigbird- Now that's funny! Nope, I find the Mini has the best chance at a clean bill of health. Thank you again folks, for all the support. The Glock had company, a Bushmaster .223 and my Maverick 88 (Cheap Mossberg 500). There's a pic of them on my phone somewhere. You know how it is, you go to the range, things need cleaning, a week or five goes by... Sigh. Lessons learned...

seaotter

After looking at those pictures, and NAA's response, your story would make a great YouTube commercial for NAA. It surely makes me want to buy my future firearms from them! It just kind  of underscores everything I like about NAA. They make a well crafted durable product, and they treat their customers as if they were a part of the family.

Certainly doesn't make me want to spend my money on a Glock!

it could help depending on the size of the fire. call the fire department first though.

I think it is a good idea. I once came across a house that the entire rear 1/4 of the house was in blazes. I called for the FD and grabbed the garden hose, feeling it was a waste of time (I directed a passing citizen to get the residents attention and make them aware.) I had 90% of the flames knocked down by the time they arrived.

You can sometimes do some impressive fire fighting with just a garden hose.

When I was a kid, we spent a few days with a work friend of my dad's down in Tampa.  He lived on an inland canal and had a beautiful 26ft ChrisCraft docked in his backyard.  The last night we were there, an arsonist who had been victimizing the area turned a 5 gal gas can upside down on the roof of that beauty and lit it.  The sound of the fire woke my sister just as it was getting really involved.  Dad played the garden hose back and forth over the twin 50 gal stern fuel tanks that we had just filled up that day on the way back in.  The boat was a total loss, but no fuel explosion.

Being a 26 year member of the local Volunteer FD, and the Chief for the past 9 years, I can tell you first hand that I've seen a garden hose work wonders and save several homes, especially when it's the car in the garage that caught fire..

Seen 50' - 100' of garden hose help on forest fires too.

well, i guess i had a good idea there. i used a garden hose in 1970 to control a kitche fire at my parents home till the local rural fd got there. they claimed that i saved the house sooo, thats where the thought originated.

Well, I wound up sending it in on April 3rd from my LGS. Got it back today, looks brand new. 40 rounds through it without a hiccup, and a light cleaning this evening. Good to have it back...  :)  A big, big thank you to NAA for the work, and fast turnaround. I have no idea what if anything was replaced other than the grips. I'll have to call and ask this week. Now I need a new pocket holster! Pics up tomorrow...

cbl51

That's pretty outstanding, Scout!!!

I guess a Tupperware handgun like a Ruger LCP or Glock would just be a total write off. Sometimes an all metal handgun is a good thing!
