Just got into the NAA game with a Bugout II

Hi folks! I'm Gale. My username didn't give that away at all, right?

So I've been shooting a little while, about 4 years. Various types of firearms, I've been concealed carrying for a little over a year now with plenty of time devoted to training, maintenance and finding that "just right" kind of fit far as the stuff I like to roll with.

So I was at one of my favorite gun shops, this really nice guy who runs a pawn that's been getting heavy into FFL firearms sales in the last couple years. He had a NAA Bugout II TALO with black grips, marked as a blemish. He discounted it to me at $279.99 new unfired, not a bad price considering nothing is physically wrong with it. A wee scuff on the front sight where the paInt is worn away. Elsewise? Seems just fine to me function-wise. And function matters the most to me, looks are icing on the cake. Any tool that's used will inevitably get character from usage and wear marks over a long enough time.

Anyways. I've had an NAA before, a mini 22LR. It uh...yeah. It failed to fire 2 out of 5 22LR rounds. Sold it to someone who wanted to fix it on his own time. Wrote it off as a rare lemon since I hear so many good things about NAA. This one so far? Seems awfully nice. Cool look, fits my hand better being a magnum frame (My hands are average for a lady's) and so far the fit and finish is awesome.

So here's my trouble. It's really hard to find an IWB holster for my Bugout II. Like, really hard. I like to carry IWB, and I carry a revolver on my right front hip because it's within my range of vision to ensure I never print or have it show by accident. Gotten pretty good at that, too. But seriously, I'm having a really tough time finding anything IWB for this model. It's a relatively new one, I get that. But...still.

I know Desert Gunleather makes some holsters, and they're beautiful. Wonderfully made, I can tell! But...I don't always wear a belt. I want to be able to IWB my Bugout II on a skirt, pants or leggings. Something with a clip, ideally metal and sturdy. And while I found one that's Kydex...I don't like Kydex. I like soft materials like Nylon or preferably Leather that are gentler on the firearm's finish. My normal old school '88 Charter Arms Police Undercover is still remarkably nice looking given it's age, I want my NAA to be the same 30 years later!

Purse carry...eh. I don't like that idea. Never have. Easy to have taken, knocked out of my hand or torn off my shoulder. Only if I absolutely have to. At this rate...I might?  :-\

First, Welcome! Uncle Mike's makes a couple of small inside wait band holsters that may fit your needs. Remember, you can always take a stitch or 2 in cloth holsters for a custom fit. Let us know what you come up with.

Welcome Gale!  I don't like Kydex either, LEATHER! 8)

The Bug Out is a good little Mini, I love mine and it shoots well too.

Even in a purse, a holster is a good idea as it keeps the gun where you expect it to be.

Remember that Minis breed like rabbits and if you can, we love pix....here is my BugOut!

I'm Sure Rick at Desert Gun Leather can make you a nice IWB for your new Bug Out. Oh WELCOME BTW or any other kind of Holster you want.

I am sure there are several, Uncle Mikes , Sticky,  Desantis... probably all make one to fit a 22 mag 15/8" Barrel... any one that will fit that should fit the BO II. I know Sticky sells the same one for the 15/8" mag and the BW and it seems to work for both...Sticky's do not have metal clips, they rely on the texture of the holster to stay in place...BTW welcome to the nuthouse...

Hey there Warty could you show me how that type of cylinder pin works . How about a picture of it outside of the gun ,I've never gotten close up to this setup on the BugOut or the Sheriff models . Thanks . Any opinions on its location with the release on the bottom .

Welcome to the forum Gale. I too just purchased a Bug II but haven't had the chance to shoot mine yet. Heed the warnings from the other members theses minis can become addicting. Also as previously stated we do enjoy the eye candy so post lots of pics of your new acquisition. Good luck on the holster search. Post a pic of that as well when you find one.

Hurricane Gale,

First of all, welcome to the forum. A real great bunch of folks here.

But watch out for Uncle Lee though,he will tell you to store your new piece in a shoe box and take a photo of it.

Sorry to hear that your first mini did not work out well but now you have a real nice one.

I have said this before, now that you have one, they tend to multiply. Don't fight the urge as it will only get worse.

We are here to help you and understand as well.

Range report soon please.

Just a thought you said your first NAA had some fail to fire. It could be the ammo you were using. Also rim fire ammo is sometimes a little finicky , I think most of us here have had ammo that would FTF sometimes. Buy quality ammo and FTF's will be at a minimum if not none at all.
CCI, Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel Ammo , Hornady® Critical Defense .22 Mag. Ammunition and the like.

Like BigBird said in other words don't trust your life with cheap ,low grade , plinking or foreign made ammo , choose the best you can find for the best results and dependability .

Hi Gale!  Welcome to the Forum!

The first 15 posts are the hardest, get through those and posting is much easier without the "secret code" and moderation approval wait time for your posts to show up.

Thank you for the compliment on the DGL Holsters!

Just to clear up something I saw in your post

"But...I don't always wear a belt. I want to be able to IWB my Bugout II on a skirt, pants or leggings. Something with a clip, ideally metal and sturdy."

you don't need a belt to use the metal clip on a holster.  They do clip on to whatever you hang it on.

There is another style that has become pretty popular..... The Ulti-Clip   they have a small outer clip that when "snapped shut" is very secure.

https://www.ulticlip.com

I have used them for a couple of "Dancers" that needed something that would "really hang on, to not very much"  whatever that means!  lol!!  ::)

From what I read in your post, you want the holster to "be comfortable (leather)", protect your gun (smooth inside), and hold on to a variety of clothing (Ulticlip)

I would recommend a molded Bug-Out holster, "Rough-Out" Natural color leather, IWB, w/the small Ulticlip .

Rough-Out leather has the smooth side in and the outside helps keep the holster in place without feeling like plastic against your body.  The Natural color will "patina" with time and exposure.

There are a couple special procedures to making the Bug Out Holsters to keep the Cylinder Pin from coming unhooked when drawn that I build in to every one  (Thanks to early reports from Forum members.)

Because of the location of the "Hook" at the end of the barrel if there is not enough clearance it can become "unhooked" and pull the pin out 1/8" to 1/2" when pulled from the holster, when shopping for BugOut Holsters make sure the Maker does this.

No matter your choice in "Holster Wear"  :)  Welcome to the Nuthouse Forum!

Lets see those Photos! Remember "No photo, it didn't happen!"  lol!!  Range Report! Photos of your targets and ammo used would be great!

These are all photos of "Tuckable" (your shirt tucks in-between the holster and clip) The clip is usually hooked on the Holster that is the "Regular IWB"

Rick your work is becoming more and more unbelievable , simply beautiful pieces of art
and your stitching is utmost . Kudos to you . Still that Freedom Arms flap top is best for concealed carry absolutely no show , I've worn mine in the most contrary places with no remarks or rising eyebrows even in sheriffs departments . Pockets just don't seem to make much sense to me unless your hands are on the weapon continently while carrying , too many moves to aim and shoot .

Wondering if your making a so-called huckleberry rig , AKA shoulder rig ?

P.S. your becoming one of the all time greats if you didn't know already , imagine your stamp being read a hundred years from now . Cool .:)

OV-1D  your making me "Blush"!  ::)    Thank you for the kind comments,  I have yet to make the "perfect" holster so I keep trying!

I'm thankful and feel lucky you and the other members of the Forum like them and allow me to keep doing what I love to do!

I know you love your Freedom Arms flap top.  I'm shocked whenever I see one for sale and the price they ask and I guess get for them.  They really are not a big deal to make, I just don't get asked often about them.

I've made utility tool pouches that look very much like the FA flap top and feel pretty good about the $65 to $75 I charge for those. The FA have been posted for sale at $200.00 and up!  Maybe it's that FA Stamp on the front! I should get one! lol!!

I do shoulder rigs for full size guns.  Haven't been asked for a NAA yet.  There are a few extra measurements to make sure they fit and are adjusted properly.

When a customer picks up a shoulder rig I ask them to allow about a half hour for adjustments and fitting.  They are about 3 times as much as a regular holster because of the time and fitting involved needed to ensure the customers success with the Rig.

I just looked up the NAA shoulder rigs $20.00 and $25.00!  All I can say is "wow", those are...... holsters. lol!!

Sometimes a customer will ask about a shoulder rig and I give them the price, then they say "I bought one at the Gun Show for $45.00"

I ask them where it is (because they don't have it on) "It's at home in the Holster Drawer because it's not comfortable"  Then I want to slam their head in the table!  ::)

Thanks again for the kind words! I hope I'm in good condition in a few years to see the next generation of owners of the holsters I make!
Maybe I'll do a "Twinky Scare" and not make them for a while! lol!!  Naw... that just ain't right.  :o

Awesome holsters.  I'll be calling this week to order a pocket holster.  Now I saw the iwb and they are awesome too.  Small pistol with a small iwb has to be comfy.  I'll stay with the pocket because I waffle too much and I want everything I see you make.  Out of curiosity, whats ballpark price on the iwb?
Regards,

Rick spends a lot of time talking with customers, making sure he's making it the way they want it made. If he charged for his talk time holsters would cost 3 times what they do. ;D

Holy...wow.

I've never had so many responses in such a short time. It's really awesome to see. Thanks, folks! I'm blown away!

I've seen your work, Rick prior to signing up here. It's awfully nice. That tuckable one you showed me? That's 110% what I'm after. Small, slimline, a sturdy clip and tuckable. I rarely wear leggings because I demand pockets in pants, or I just wear a dress instead. But even so, it's nice to know I have the extra options to ensure it's with me almost always! Does me no good at home, right? I got it as a companion to come with!

I'll see about snapping some photos, though honestly I doubt you'd be interested in it being stock with no real custom adjustments. It is neat though. A little pocket carry in loose jeans using the safety notch thus far confirms it works, though mine doesn't lock in rock solid like the .22lr watch-pocket minis do. The cylinder turns a little, however it has never turned over and locked over a round either. I'm confident in it thus far.

I would like to find a little bigger grip though to get an extra finger on. That'll do wonders for my accuracy while I adjust to it.

We are lucky to have BigBird around too! His laser engraving had made our holsters stand out from others! Plus, he is willing to eat anything we have for lunch!  :)

It's nice for customers to "get what they want" instead of "almost" what they want or "not quite" what they want.  :o

There is a large manufacturer a few miles from us in Phoenix. They used to be open to the public on Friday but stopped a couple years ago. When people show up there they throw them out of their lobby.  It's been great for us, we are the closest holster maker to them so people end up at our shop!

We also get a lot of business being next door to Robar Gun Coating Co.  https://robarguns.com/custom-firearm-finishes/

We have about 160 dummy guns and 20 or so of my guns to build with.  The dummies run from $50 each to $100 still cheaper than most guns.

Every week we use a friend or customers gun to build with if we don't have the dummy or one is not available.  We try to buy 2 to 3 new dummies a month depending on what has become popular or been in all the gun mag's.

The answer is yes! it's a good excuse for when I treat myself to a new gun!  ;)

Gale, Gale, Gale,
Sure we have seen a lot of pictures of BOII, but not YOUR BOII.

Pictures show pride of ownership.
Almost all babies look alike but people still show pictures of THEIR babies (grand-babies).

Pictures take the "dry" feeling out of the forum. Without them the forum would just be letters on the page.

Besides, I need pictures - can't read too well.... (joke)

As for how I like it and how well I like the way it works, I like it.  It works easily and I find it easier to use than some of the other ways my Mini pins work.

My Magnum Bug II Broke. Second time firing it at the range. The Sheriff edition cylinder pin it's outfitted with broke loose, a clean break with no sheared metal. A weak weld/solder, uncertain.

It appears I've acquired a $279 paperweight.
