Just picked up my new Sidewinder (4" conversion). VERY difficult to swing cylinder out. Has anyone else had this problem? All suggestions on proper procedure to swing cylinder out are welcome.

I do not own one, but I read you have to make sure the hammer is in half cock to open it. Just what I remember...

I've had the forward section of the spindle (cylinder shaft) turn loose preventing it to release fully from its locking place and won't let the whole assembly open down . Make sure it isn't unscrewing off the shaft . Half cock for sure also .

Welcome not2oldnfat!

OK, I have a short version of the Sidewinder, in fact I have two, both Magnums.  As Al stated, to make the cylinder swing out you must put the hammer to half cock.

Also, if you want to make it swing fully open so you can get the rounds out without needing to rotate the cylinder, you will need to use a file.  And the open it so that the cylinder wilswing fully out.  Do this slowly, testing it constantly sl you don't remove more than you need.  If you wish, I have some pix someone posted here a while back showing you exactly where on the Sidewinder you need to file.  If you want those, I will post them.

Besides the advice already offered, I'd add that when you pull the cylinder release knob forward; push the pin out and with your other hand push the cylinder out at the same time.  Same thing when closing, try to support the cylinder, the crane and the ejector rod and push them in as one.  It will smooth out with use.  A drop of gun oil will help too.  Oh, and WELCOME not2oldnfat!

Please let us know if any of this advice helped.
