I've been looking for a mini for some time and finally bought a used one over the weekend. Was planning on carrying it daily, but now that I've dug into what I thought looked like a newer 22lr I may have to buy a different one.
What do you guys think, buy a new one and keep this one or buy a new one and sell this one? Not sure if it holds more value or not, but this is from the Newbury era.
Either way, these are going to be an addiction I can already tell!

Hey . . . BJT . . . WELCOME to the Forum!  Great to have you join us at the firing line.  Buy a new one; keep the old one.

And remember, a hole where it doesn't belong is never good, whether that be in the wall or the bad guy.  Someone is going to have a bad day.

Thanks Ruger!

Are these older ones of value? I like the idea of keeping it as my first, and if of higher value it'll be well taken care of. However, the shop has a few more that may be from the same consignment group and if they carry a higher value I may just scoop them up as well.

I was really hoping to engrave this one, but I may leave it alone for now. My laser will find another soon enough!

Thanks

RICKS PLACE

Hi and welcome.  I really never think about a mini getting to be worth more.  My family will end up with whatever I have and leave.  Have already gave a couple to them. Still carry one that is 9 years old.  Keep both of them, later if you get rid of one, you will soon say, "why did I do that?".

Bjt140

Thanks Ricks Place! I believe this one is pushing 43 years old!

Most likely I'll keep it original, and grab another to carry and engrave on. These little things are pretty great!

Welcome bjt.

I have an older mini that I found at a gun show. I just keep it as a reminder of the first mini that my pop gave me many moons ago. Get yourself a newer one to carry and hold that one for nostalgia. Before you know it you'll have so many that you could carry a different one depending on the day of the week 😉

Bjt140

Thanks Smokeless Joe!

Thought about sending this one in to NAA to have it looked at and updated, but I kind of like the original aspect of it too.

I already want another one, what is a good carry option in your opinion? It's been a few days and I want another lol

Rick_Jorgenson

Welcome bjt,

I've asked about the "Newbury Park" guns value, they don't seem to be a big deal. I even asked Jessica at NAA about one that AZKen bought and thought about doing modifications on. I asked and Jessica said there is no additional value because of being from Newbury Park.

As a matter of fact, the old style of cylinder doesn't have the safety notches. You can send it in and have it updated.

I would like to have one or two from that era.  I grew up and lived in Ventura County and worked in the San Fernando Valley, I drove past the Talley Corp Aerospace building on the side of the 101 freeway everyday,  twice a day, Oblivious they were making them there.
(where somewhere in the corner of the machine shop they made the orig. NAA guns)

Talley Corp was torn down many years ago.... progress I guess.

BTW.... You won't find many members here recommending you sell any NAA gun you have acquired. Once you got it, hang on to it and plan for the next one! lol!!

My choice for edc is my Pug but the Black Widow is a close second on the days where I feel like a change. And just because we love pics here I'll throw this in  ::)

Welcome Bjt,
Keep the one you have and buy another (and another, and another, etc.)
You will be happy.

The Ranger II just came out and it brought down the price of used minis on GunBroker.

BJT,
First Welcome to the forum. I see that you already met the "cast of characters" and will enjoy your stay here.

By now,I think you realize by all the advice is to keep your "new" mini and get another.

I prefer the PUG or Black Widow and have the extra 22lr cylinder for each of them.

Virtually all of the minis are excellent and you can't go wrong.

Watch out for Uncle Lee,though,he will tell you to photograph them (lots) and store them in shoe boxes, that way they seem to "multiply".

Holsters?  Without a doubt,Rick at Desert Gunleather is THE choice.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!

Looks like I will be keeping my new old mini lol. Do you guys think its worth getting it updated, or just leave it as it was originally?

I definitely like how the Pug looks! The shop I got this from has a couple Black Widows, if memory serves me right they are priced right around $170 but I am not sure on their age. There was also another older mini that seemed a little worn for 165, maybe ill grab that to test my engraving skills on.

This seems like it may be an expensive new hobby, these are relatively cheap per piece which is gonna be my issue because one is cheap and 5 adds up lol

I will definitely check out the holsters too, is there a link to a website for those?

Thanks everyone!

On my days off I carry two. Hard to do that on the job.

Bjt140

You guys are killing me already lol, is $200 for a like new pug a decent deal? Also, can you run. 22 mag and 22lr on one?

Thanks!

LHB

As to the Newbury Park minis, I have a few, and even though they may not be worth more than the newer guns, they are unique, and they don't make them any more.  I have, and will keep mine in the original condition.  I like the highly polished finish on them.  A year or so ago there was a man trying to sell a "rare" collector Newbury mini, with two cylinders that had been upgraded with the safety notches, asking $600 for it.   Don't think he ever got it, problem being that when he had it "upgraded", it was no longer "rare", it was now just another modified mini.   It's like taking one of the few 1942 Chevys made before Pearl Harbor, and customizing it into a hot rod, now it'e not a rare car.

grab that 200 dollar pug guy. sounds too good to be true.   kecvn.

Bjt140

Just missed that one, but I think my local shop has one at 170 and if not there are a couple of black widows for that price point.

KEN AR

Welcome and Congrats on that new Mini.

I'm partial to the Black Widow my self.

Holsters, yep Rick is the man.

Grips for the mini get some discussion also.  CVANG makes a nice one that is EASY to hold onto.

And for Uncle Lee a photo for morning coffee!

The Ranger II just came out and it brought down the price of used minis on GunBroker.

I bought 3 NAA's over the weekend on GunBroker (Photos to follow for sure!)

The bids I put on them were low, I thought someone would "bid them up" before the action ended for sure, but no......  :o

I have bids on 2 more. I may need to sell plasma to pay for last weekend's bidding.  :o (How many times a day can you do that? 4?, 5?  ;D) lol!

Lol if my wife yells at me, at least I have proof it can be worse!

Love the grips and holsters! I just need to figure out which one I want to carry and start shopping for it's accessories.

I also have a fiber laser so I really want to add some scrollwork to it as well! Just need to figure out my designs and which one to laser!

Probably the best group I've joined, thanks everyone! Sorry my only pic is of an old parts and price list, but thought it was nostalgic lol

Welcome Bjt; $200 is a great deal on a Pug. You can shoot either .22 LR or .22 Mag from a Pug but you must have a separate cylinder for each. (.22 LR cylinder & .22 Mag cylinder.) They are not interchangeable.
