Does Anybody Know How To Aim A NAA Mini?

I've recently been trying to accurately shoot my NAA Mini but I'm having a lot of difficulty doing so. I've tried aligning the front sight with the rear hammer notch to no avail. Is there a better way to aim these Minis? I know perhaps it's best as a point blank weapon but assuming that I need/want to aim it, what would be the best way?

glenn

To align something on the gun that makes the bullet hit where you want it to.
I'm not being a wiseass ... just that's what you need to do.

try sighting it down the top of the barrel. forget the rear notch and the front site.

Glenn is correct; look over the rear sight and line up the front sight, or visa versa.  Look down the side of the barrel.  If the conventional way of sighting is not satisfactory, just pick out parts of the gun that you can use to line up that will make the bullet hit where you want it too.
A gun is like a parachute; if you need it and don't have it, you probably won't need it again.

I had to paint the farthest inside wall of the slot (the part facing toward the sight), because I could not find it easily. It did not show up where my mind said it should be. Now it is much easier to see.

That notch on the rear of most Minis is not a rear sight. It is merely a notch for the hammer to fall into. To aim one of these one should line up the top of the barrel with the bottom of the front sight and the impact will usually be somewhere near the top of the front sight.

Using that rear notch, as Canoeal is showing above, place the coloured line at the bottom of the front sight base and the bullet impact should be somewhere near the top of the front sight.

Put the gun very close to your target cock and pull the trigger or cock and put up to target and then pull the trigger . That's what these guns were made for , within inches not yards , not ballfields and now stop kidding ourselves and get real . Especially with the shorter barrels , longer barrels not that much more of a difference .  ;);)    P.S. its best if you see powder burns , takes care of that aiming thingy .

You got that right OV anything over 8 or 10' good luck. These are belly guns and trying to be accurate past 10 feet is a personal problem LOL Sure you can be with practice ,but if your  carrying a mini for SD then up close and personal it is.  :D

Correct. Using it that way, mine hits POA, with .22 mags. The pics of the paint do not show what it looks like sighted, I was trying to show the paint and the front sight. Hard to get a true "sighted picture".
I just had trouble centering R-L before I did that. My last 5 yd target...

Back a few years ago, several members posted that they had filed the half moon front sight down, or even removing it, so that if using the hammer notch as a sight the point of impact would be close to the point of aim.   I ignore the from sight on a mini and just look down the barrel, like a shot gun.

ya hold it anyway you can and watch for bullet impact. correct your sight alignment as needed to put your shots on target. kentucky sight alignment will work.

Cold five shots and had not had the Mini to the range in quite some time and these were the results for the "Cabin Fever" event some years ago. These things are quite accurate if one understands what and where the actual sights are.  ::)

Best I can do with a handheld camera. This sight alignment would shoot a tiny bit high. Front sight should sit right on top of the notch; for the bead style sight. JMO

How do you aim your NAA Mini?  Cock the hammer, stick it in his belly, and pull the trigger.  If your target is more than 3 ft away, use your 9mm.  ;)

That would be my practice with one exception a 45acp instead of 9mm .

Try some actual practice so you do not have to wait until they get that close...Hmm...7 yards is close enough.

I took my LR mini to the range yesterday, and was shooting at an 8 inch steel target 10 yards away. Using a two hand grip and aiming as stated above I was hitting steel 80% of the time. Not great, but "good enough" on my estimation. Like most people I don't get enough range time to get truly proficient (shooting my J frame yesterday was giving me fits. And a blister) but for what it is, the mini does pretty well.
My Black Widow, of course, does MUCH better. Still the best overall mini IMHO.

Canoeal

Agreed my BW is  my #1. I did not think the question was about a BW. My BW sight is slightly modified, so it shoots POA with 22 mag. That sight is easier to use, because now it jumps out at me.

Finally got to fire my NAA Mini today.  At first I was shooting high and left but then I really looked at it and started lining up the trigger "well" with the front sight and I was pretty much on target after that.  This is my CC to let me get to my 380 M&P Shield.  I feel more comfortable carrying the Mini now that I have put 75 rounds through it.  I have only one issue and that is releasing the spent casings, it does not push them out!  Any suggestions on that?  Thanks!

Welcome to the nuthouse forum. I took my cylinder and polished it up a little (silver polish and a bore mop in a slow drill driver) Then I made a longer brass push rod... 1/8th or 3/16th brass rod and a dowel).

Welcome to the forum !

It may be the ammo you're using.

I had the same problem with my Ruger Bearcat until it disappeared after switching to a different brand of ammo.

Heh, figured out how to attach a pic.  I hope.  Let's see if this works.

Last range day.  25 feet with 22LR mini and 32ACP Guardian.

LOL yay it worked!  FYI about 8.5" group from the mini at 25'.  Slightly tighter from the Guardian.  Usually I practice more at handshake distances.  Note that the mini keyholed on a couple shots....

So what I do on the mini is line up the base of the front sight blade with the rear "notch" to sight along the top of the gun.  Pretty much what Canoeal said minus the paint.  Seems to work OK for a tiny pocket pistol.

:D

Looks like you had fun at the range.
Good shooting also.

Thanks y'all.

I need more practice, maybe if I skip the morning coffee I can shoot like that again some day.   :o

BTW once I got the 22LR I got my brothers and my dad interested in these so I've had the opportunity to compare the LR mini against a few other minis.  No comparison, especially the Black Widows.  Front sight post on the Sidewinder seems to work pretty good too.
