Finally got a mini

Hi everyone,
I'm new so I figured I should make my first post here and tell you guys about my new (to me) mini. I was holding out for a magnum with the lr conversion cylinder but I got a hell of a deal on a 22lr mini and just couldn't pass it up. I took it out to the range Friday and I just can't believe how great these little revolvers are. I did as much research as I could before I went and I just gotta say I have no idea why these guns have this reputation of being inaccurate? I can see where it's tricky to figure out a sight picture at first but once you do it's pretty *** accurate. I wasn't anticipating joining this forum or I would've kept my target or at least took pictures but I still had to share my experience. At 10 feet out I was putting holes right where I wanted em, went out to 20 feet and they still seemed to go right where I wanted. I did take some advice I found lurking on here and ignored the front sight and lined up with the top strap instead and it worked extremely well. Whoever posted that before, thank you!!! Also, for as small as these are they're actually alot of fun to shoot especially once you find a way to grip it comfortably. My technique is to hold the grip with my right (strong) hand then put my left hand over it and pull the trigger with my left pointer finger. Not sure if it makes a difference or not but mine has the black rubber grips not the rosewood. They're not the same grips from the pug though they screw onto the sides like the rosewood. At first I was thinking it would be a fun range toy and a last ditch backup but after my range trip I really have a new appreciation for this little guy. I haven't got my ccw yet but I'm taking the class here in a couple weeks and I'm definitely going to be comfortable having this guy with me when I won't be able to carry anything bigger. These little revolvers are just awesome. Anyway, happy to be here guys!

Howdy Shane, welcome to the forum.
What Smokeless said.
Yep you now understand how to sight these little beauties: look down the flat of the top strap, put your front sight blade where you want to hit, and practice. Repeat. Repeat.  It is not a target sight picture but it works and with practice becomes fast and accurate.
Another great thing about the mini is how customizable the grips are. Some like the original birds head type, some like rubber grips, or oversized grips, or folding, or full custom grips. All four of mine (one L/R frame, three mag framed) wear oversized grips, but that is me.
Practice, then come back and post your experiences (your first 15 posts are overseen, then you are free).

Thanks everyone! I'm sure this sort of thing gets asked alot but how do you guys feel about 40 grain Mini Mags in your minis? I want to try the Federal Punch soon too but so far I like the mini mags the best. I know ShootingTheBulls YouTube video on mini ballistics said the 36 grain hollows performed better but it was said by a quite a few people that the particular batch seemed to be loaded hot, I believe they were some kind of special edition.

Welcome to the insanity, Shane - as it gives the best shooting results with a mini, I hold/fire mine the same way you do.

I have had rubber birdshead grips for a long time, but recently mounted aged stag grips, when NAA made them available for  sale.

My Wasp wears the real Stag Grips also. Though mine do not look aged like yours. Must be different grips, though mine are from NAA. Yours look better.
Oh well, maybe I will take them off and soak them in tea. Would not want to mess them up though. Too darned expensive. Any opinions or cautions? By the way does anybody else get ticked off by the way forum software handles contractions and special characters? I find myself spending an inordinate amount of time cleaning up after this added attraction!

Shane,
Welcome to the forum.

Ummm,so you now have a mini.......when are you going to get the next one???  They tend to multiply especially if you take Uncle Lee's advice and store them in showboxes. They multiply faster that way.

Welcome. When are you getting your next one? They get lonely if you just have one.

Very nice grips everyone, especially the handmade wooden ones. The Stag on the Black Widow are good looking too. Wish I still had those woodworking skills but at 74 a bit shaky on detail work. I did manage to get the aged stag look on my Wasp grips. Old English just wiped off, but I decided to soak them in coffee for a few hours and this was the result. I am very pleased with how they turned out. I may put a little clear finish on them but have not decided yet. However, my wife suggested some paste wax instead of clear finish, as it would not only be easily renewable and not too shiny, which might tend to make the real stag look like cheap plastic. My wife is an accomplished woodworker and design artist also, and blessed with an eye to design not to mention being able to see the finished object in her mind as if it were physically in front of her. So I believe I will follow her suggestion. Now, how long since I have waxed a car and if I can find it, is the Turtle Wax still good? LOL!
Cheers,

Thanks,
I like it better now that I got my self aged stags on it! Could not stand the Rubber grips that came on it stock. And I paid $70 for the stags that looked like crap next to aged stag. So I just had to do it myself! LOL! You will love the Wasp though, it is just a really nice looking mini revolver, one of the best looking that NAA makes. Of course I also love my CCH Mini and my Ranger II..etc!

I'm not too sure when I'll be in the market for another one to be honest, that'll be a ways away. When I do I'll probably go with a sidewinder. I'm definitely thinking .357 mag next

shanep0017

I think I got the pic down to size finally! Anyway this is it here

Very nice Shane.

To be honest I see em everywhere at least at the local stores here in Ohio. I was dead set on one for a long time but just couldn't do it with pandemic pricing. I kept waiting to find a deal on one and eventually my patience paid off. It's not exactly the one I wanted but dammit if it's not the one I needed lol
