I installed a new mainspring on my 22 mag revolver and now you cannot cock the hammer. Pretty sure the mainspring is in correctly...could there be another problem?

bill_deshivs

The mainspring is not installed correctly.
There is a notch in the hammer for it.

Where is the notch?  I have tried to locate it with a flashlight.  Can you show a sketch of it.  Thanks for your help.

I can't put an arrow but you can see the notch.

Thanks for the pics and this helps.  I think my hammer notch must be worn off because I had the mainspring in this notch and it still wouldn't cock....  Will try again and may have to send it in to NAA.

Ima - I really doubt that the  notch is worn off. One thing that could cause a problem is if the bolt pin fell out while you were changing the spring. It is sometimes prone to coming out. I am attaching a couple of photos. First one is a parts diagram, second one is a photo of what a Mini looks like if the bolt pin is missing. There should be a pin in that hole!

Thanks for the reply and I checked and the pin is still there on mine.  This does help though.

My neighbor's sidewinder broke. We were unable to pull the trigger back, it would get stuck part way. He had changed grips and wanted to change them back. I noticed that the gun was inoperable. I removed the old grips and found the bolt pin was gone. NAA sent us another one and I put it in yesterday, which fix the gun. The reason I bring it up is because the new pin just fell into the hole in the frame. I was afraid to use anything like thread lock to keep it there, so I just put the BW grips on and told him to be careful if he takes the grips off in the future.
So my question is, should that bolt pin be a loose fit?

Thanks bearcatter. What has me worried is that the hole for the pin doesn't go all the way through the frame. There's no way to punch the pin out.

OLD and GRUMPY

When I got my new old mini I took the grips off to clean it. The pin just fell out. By luck I saw it on the bench. It is short and TINY. Just presses in/falls out.

Oh, oh; I didn't know that. Most pins are all the way through. I've removed my thread lock suggestion !!
I've looked at the whole exploded view. The pin has to be removable to remove the bolt. Being a little loose, tapping the frame would vibrate it out.
