Oh please, be a longer barrel. I love my Sheriff. But I would really, really like a 3.5 inch barrel. Or any reason to buy another Sheriff really.

Jessica - At first I thought you were up too late, then I realized you're Utah time.
I've been debating making a Sheriff my first mini, so I'll be extra interested in what's special!!

Regardless of what's new with the Sheriff, you should definitely make your first mini a Sheriff. IMHO, they are the perfect mini.

bearcatter

That's what I decided. The debate is whether I get a mini or not. I have two stainless Bearcats, which are pretty compact already, and I don't have to pull the cylinder. A mini would be more for fun !

I think many here would say the BW is the perfect mini. MHO is when you start getting over 2 inchs then there not minis any more.  I have a Sheriff and thats the longest barrel I'll get.  ;D  But my BW is my EDC always has been.

bearcatter

For MHO, I'd prefer the cylinder pin operation and the simple sights of the Sheriff. Others don't. That's why NAA makes so many different minis, except poor Uncle Lee couldn't decide and ended up with a wall of shoe boxes ....  ;D

You me and "Anonymous" as reprinted by Chuck Hawks:

"The Speer 40 grain GDHP-SB load was tailored for use in mini-revolvers with 2" and shorter barrels. The Hornady Critical Defense 45 grain FTX load, also developed for use in mini-revolvers, is another possibility. An NAA Black Widow mini-revolver in .22 Magnum is probably as good as "mouse guns" get.

A long read about mostly ammo, but good. https://www.chuckhawks.com/ammo_by_anonymous.htm

I would say the Wasp 1 5/8" is a good second...

Hey you guys with those Sheriffs , myself I don't like the looks and that cylinder pin ? Can someone post pictures of that pin on the in and out positions ? It looks like it could grab on holster and disengage somehow or another . Thanks . ??? ??? ???

Good photos, BigBird. Shows it just right.

See the tab on the underside of the pin? You push it up, toward the barrel, and pull forward to release the pin.

Going in, just push and it clicks.

Thanks greatly BigBird thats how I figured it was . You too Bear . Myself I just wouldn't trust it from disengaging all by itself going in and out of a tight holster , especially out . Again with the looks it doesn't please my eye anyhow , kinda cheap looking design .Thats just me though .  ;) ;)

That style cylinder pin has only been an issue on the Bug Out. (my personal experience)

Because the pin is on the end of the barrel (on the Bug Out) when you draw from a Holster you can drag that pin pushing it against leather and pulling the pin out of the "locked" position.

It that has not been an issue for the Sheriff to my knowledge. I believe due to the additional length of the barrel you won't/can't get the same drag motion against a leather Holster from the cylinder pin. It doesn't make any contact like with the Bug Out.

When we build Holsters for either model with that style pin (Bug Out & Sheriff) we have our Dummy Guns set up to create a "track" (tunnel) on the underside of the barrel similar to the "sight track" we do on the top of the barrel.

The molded "tracks" (tunnels) are common and most people have seen them on Holsters to accommodate sight's to travel in and out of holsters without touching the Leather or Kydex. It is unusual to have to do it for the underside of a barrel.

It does work for both models (Bug Out and Sheriff) and is done for those model gun Holsters built by Desert Gun Leather.
If you have another Maker build a Holster for you, be sure to ask if they accommodate for this issue with those model guns. It is an important safety issue.

I thank one of the members (Bill Meek) on this Forum for pointing this out to me when the Bug Out first came out years ago. John and I made the changes right away to our Dummy Guns so this didn't become an issue for the Holsters we build.

Thanks Rick it makes good sense you made accommodations for NAA's design . I hope NAA puts more thinking into new models for any drawbacks like this one . I still wouldn't have one for my tastes then again who am I . Ha .  ;)

Rick my man I'm thinking about going ahead and working on my Sidewinder to show how easy it would be to make it tilt out in the open position to accept a speed loader and still remain good and snug tight in the closed position . If it continues to bother me ,which it doesn't too much seeing I have it for the collection and not use , I'll do it but then again the warranty for resale is void . Doesn't require much just some filing here and there with a flat and round jewelers file . I'm surprised it wasn't produced this way but would have more hands on time and as they say time is money .  ;) ;)   Heck I'm still wanting a long rifle cylinder for my Ranger 1 .

OV... If the Sidewinder is just a safe queen, my opinion (you didn't ask, I know) is leave it in-tact, full warranty valid condition.

If it ever "needs" to be sold or warranty work done on it you will get top dollar or the gun repaired.

If you use it and that little mod makes you happy and you use the heck out of it... its worth it JMHO

I think you only need to file the "crane" to make it swing out a little further, and you can have that cylinder/crane replaced for about $100.00 if you needed to later for other warranty work. Decisions, decisions  ;)

OV-1D

My mod would allow it to swing out probably 20 degrees which is plenty of room to spare but it requires the frame to be filed also and the pivot hole elongated . It would swing back up into the closed position and be just like it wasn't converted . Like you said I have no need to do it seeing I don't carry that piece . Very doable and easy .  ;)

I wanted to order a brace of Rangers for the wife and myself. Wanted to come up with custom serial numbers reflecting our anniversary date. Custom shop is closed. They're backlogged by 50000 orders. Hopefully next year?

That would be a very cool gift!  If your Gun Shop source has them available (the non custom ones) maybe think about ordering them anyway.  After the last couple years and circumstances, I'm not putting off anything with friends or loved ones "until later".

Not to be a "downer" here... lately some good friends and clients have passed so, if there is something I can do for them or something I want to say to someone, I tell them or call when the need arises.  Enough said, you get the idea  ;)

Maybe get a pair and do custom Grips or matching Holsters?  Then go shooting together! Put a big Ribbon on a brick of ammo for her!  She should appreciate that you could find that much ammo!  ;)

Take care, Happy Anniversary! and many more! And... Welcome to the Forum!

Hey Kevin,
First let me say "WELCOME" to the asylum.

When you get the pair of Rangers, try this place for some beautiful grips to fit on them.
Then you will need holsters.... (hint, hint,  for the best, most beautiful, and smells good (really) see Rick.)

I LOVE the smell of leather.

Happy Anniversary! They have some grips that would offset hers from yours?

Thanks for the replies. Yeah, might order anyway. Will probably take half a year to come in anyway!lol! Would've been cool with the custom serials since they'll end up going to the two granddaughters. Along with the matching BWs.

I've actually been a member for awhile. Usually I'm searching for information or lurking. After calling the factory recently, I thought that I should share that information.

I like those rosewood and pearl. My holster grip could get retired for those on my BW.

This IWB Holster can be made "Tuckable" the clip is for a 1 1/2" Belt, it may hang a little below a 1 1/4" Belt

To the best of my knowledge... Clips for 1 1/4" Belts are not available. (I will check with my vendor)

The Holster can also be made with the Leather "smooth out".  The "Rough Out" does help keep an IWB in place.

It's on the "to do" list to go back to NAA for a Magnum Cylinder. It's a great little gun.
