Y'all know I bought this about 2 months ago, and been carrying it in the pocket holster it came with. I haven't had any problems at all with it and really liking it. Got a couple questions. Been looking on different Ruger forums and wondering if any particular one is better to join. And also, it has a magazine disconnect safety. What do y'all think of them? I'd like to be able to manually load a shot shell in chamber and shoot without having to put mag back in. I mean it's there, and without having to take a part and no telling how many springs going in all directions, is it just something not to worry about. Its not like I need to manually load a round of snake shot everyday.

We hate magazine safeties. If it cannot be taken out/off ................ we will not have the gun.

camo

After researching, it can be taken out, but don't know if I'm the one to do it. I'll think on it some. Just wish it didn't have it.

top dog

Camo,
Tere are man pros and cons about magazine safeties but in my opinion,if you alter a firearms from factory specs and something "happens: you just opened yourself up to a real big problem.

If you really don't like magazine safeties, then get a piece that does not have one.

Lawsuits are never nice.

I've removed a few mag safeties, but only if they can be put back. It's a negative on my Zastavas, you have to remove a tab on the trigger link, and I've only found one extra trigger. I don't mind the safety so much. What I'd really like to change is the mags not dropping free, but the part that does that has another function.

I'm gonna leave well enough alone. The gun hasn't give me a bit of problem. Be different if did. I just need to shoot good enough to hit that snakes head without loading a round of snake shot.

top dog

Camo,
I bet with a bit of practice you will do just fine.

Shot a few rounds this afternoon. I know it can be better, but for me, I'm not complaining a bit. Out to 7 yards, not bad, but don't know what happens at 10 yards.

top dog

Camo,
That looks pretty good to me. Try a few rounds or so at say more realistic distances such as ten feet or less.

I am glad to see that you are getting more practice in.

Any reliabilty issues with any ammo?

Just not much fun shooting with sweat running in your eyes. What you think top dog? Not much difference in grouping, but I did shoot these at a pretty fast pace. I had an old piece box of American eagles that I tried in it and it didn't like them at all. Thought sure it was gonna give me problems. But been shooting mostly fed auto match, and not the first problem. Finished up that old box of American eagle in the B/W. Here's pic from this afternoon.

top dog

Camo,
That is pretty darn good. Rapid fire with sweat in your eyes and all that.

I found that in my experience, either Federal HiSpeed solid pints or CCI HiSpeed solid points are pretty reliable in mos 22s.

My Henry Survival rifle (AR-7) seems to like them best.

Yep, sweat in my eyes and I'm sticking to it.   :)  I shoot CCI some. Been shooting the fed auto match thru the years with no problems. But I used to shoot rem thunderbolts with no problems also. They the dirtiest ammo I've ever shot though.

top dog

Camo,
Yep,I found that the Remington Thunderbolts are pretty dirty

What I do with all my 22 ammo (except magnums) is lube the bullets lightly with a dab of bullet lube.

Just a little bit between the fingers and it takes but a few minutes to do a batch of 100+ LR rounds.

Seems that they kind of skimp on the lube at the factory and I have not experienced any leading since I started  lubing the bullets.

I use SPG (black powder) lube but I heard that Johnson;s Paste Wax works and I have used in in the past.

Came a shower late this afternoon and it cooled down afterwards. Shot a few rounds without sweating for a change. Moved back to 10 yards. Maybe a little better than last ones at 10. Plan on cleaning it tomorrow, so probably want shoot it anymore until this heat lets up. For me, 10 yards is a long distance to shoot this LCP or the B/W. I think from now on I'm gonna concentrate and practice mostly around the 5 yard range.

top dog

Camo,
Glad it cooled down a bit for you.

I think that the 5 yard distance (or less) is a good idea. But glad to see you are getting in dsome nice trigger time.

I am recovering from a heart attack and foot surgery so it will be a while before I set foot on the range or field.

So,please take some more practice for me!!!!

top dog, if you posted on here, I missed it. I hope everything went well with your surgeries, and continue for a speedy recovery. Take good care and get well. Will check in on you from time to time.

top dog

Camo,
I had posted elsewhere on the forum. Thank you for your concern.

Don't worry,I will be in the squirrel/coyote woods before long.

Good to hear. Our squirrel season comes in 1st week of next month.

top dog

Camo,
Off thread a bit but our squirrel season open 1st of Sept and goes through the last day of February. Eight a day limit with season total at 40.

Only grey squirrels here as red and fox are way further south.

Seems that you are getting so good with the LCP II you may just be able to use it for squirrels.

If I shot a squirrel with the LCP .22 or the B/W, everyone on this forum would hear about it.  :)  Our season is  Sept. 9 - Mar 3rd. I see a fox squirrel every now and then, but mostly all greys. All the clear cutting around has just about done away with fox squirrels. Use the 410 mostly nowadays. 8 a day here also. far as I know, never been a max on season total.

Gosh, getting so used to carrying the LCP .22 that I forgot to take it out of my pocket at Doctors office this morning. Didn't get concerned until he ordered an x-ray of abdomen. Had to lay on back with pants slid down on hips. It stayed put though.

OV-1D

Is that a gun in your pocket or are you glad to see me the doctor thought to himself .    :) :)

top dog

Camo,
Glad to see all worked out well.

love my LCP II 22LRs... also my LCR 22s.. both are deadly accurate... but i gotta say, the Kel-Tec P17 smokes 'em both

camo

MRI in the morning. No LCP going with me this time. Did shoot some this afternoon. No pictures this time. Know y'all are probably getting tired of seeing pictures over and over.

Good shooting Canoeal. Nice to see someone else's targets. Any of them would get the job done.

Pocket 22Lr's have for the most part been my general all around carry pistols for quite a while. I picked up a LCP-22 last winter as my other pocket 22, a S&W 2214 didn't like the cold winter weather. The aluminum frame lost heat far to quickly while practicing on the range in the winter. Granted tucked warmly in its holster against the body It functioned flawlessly through its first couple mags but when I stopped to reload its mags it chilled quickly and this caused feed issues. I hopped that a LCP-22 would mind the cold less. My LCP 380 ran flawlessly no matter the weather. I had heard they were a bit finicky when new so I looked for a used one in decent condition at a decent price. I got a good one... It has run flawless since getting it. It isn't as accurate as my 2214 mainly because the action on the 2214 is SA. I have said it for almost ten years now... "If Ruger had come out with the LCP in 22LR first I would have never bought one in 380ACP." Now I have one and all is good.

I still haven't had any problems with my LCP-22 when shooting Fed Auto Match. It didn't like some old American eagle I was finishing up. But the auto match and CCI, no problems at all. Didnt even have problems with any rem thunderbolts. But gosh that's some dirty ammo.

The saying- if ain't ain't broke don't fix it may apply here. I haven't had any problems with the LCP .22. I replaced the take down pin and installed a little heavier duty recoil spring. Started having failure to extract issues. Is that something the recoil spring would cause? I put the stock recoil spring back in, but haven't shot it anymore.

Yes, the heavier recoil spring may be causing the issue. Not sure of any need for a heavier spring unless you intend to exclusively feed it Stingers and similar Hyper Vel. fodder. Heavy duty springs will slow down the slide and light duty ammo may not cycle properly.

The take down pin backs out some when shooting. I was gonna order a new heavy duty pin that wouldn't back out, and thought while ordering why not a heavier recoil spring. That's only reason. You'd think old as I am, I should know to leave well enough alone.

Me too!  Lately I've tucked my newly acquired S&W 61, but always drift back to my LCP.  Might have to get another without the funky threaded barrel.
