For insurance purposes, I am trying to find the current value of an unfired example of the original "tool room" Break Top. Found none on GB. Most searches bring up Rangers. Thanks for any help.

Rick_Jorgenson

I did an "advanced search" on GunBroker and didn't come up with anything.

I've seen them in the past ranging from $2500.00 (before Ranger II) to $1250.00 14 to 18 months ago.

They are worth more to someone that is a "Fan" of NAA Revolvers and "more" is relative to what someone is willing to pay to aquire the item.  You need to find someone that is despiratly looking for that limited model to sell for top dollar.

Other than that someone that has a few NAA's, has heard of the Ranger I and see's one for what they consider a "good price" that becomes the value.

For your insurance concerns, your policy is written to "put you back in pre-loss condition" you will need to find someone with a Ranger I and ask them "how much to sell it to me?" Most of them are not for sale so the price is going to be in the $2500.00 range would be my guess.

If this goes from the claim rep handling your claim to their underwriter, explain the circumstances of the gun's availability (lack of) (have photos, serial #, etc.) If they question the amount of the claim and want to settle, they should supply you with a list of "Like Kind and Quality" of the same firearm for sale and prices for them. (They won't be able to) It will go to the claims supervisor and then to claims management for OK's to pay the loss.

Be persistent and have good documentation, don't accept anything less than what it will take to make you "whole" from a loss whether it's in cash or a replacement Ranger I.

due to the fact that none have been on sale for quite a long time, the value should once again be significantly above the $1250 range again . not to mention that OV1D  is no longer flooding the market selling all of his

After seeing no interest with my relations and doesn't seem that there will be any I'm about to sell everything off and keep only what I need for a small standoff . If you know anybody Joe that wants to start a suburb 22 collection dating back to the 1860's and till now have them give me a shout . See what you've done to me stating you have more "Rangers" . Honestly I've fondled them enough its time to share . ;)  ;)

I have four Ranger I's, two plain and two engraved, all with CV grips of various wood colors.  Bougtht them for aprox. $1500 each before Ranger II came out.  All in original boxes and never fired.  Have no idea what they're worth now. how about an educated guess for me.

I don't think anyone really knows right now, because there have been few documented sales since the Ranger 2 came out. Prices were down then, but now who knows.

This thread made me realize I don't have a photo of my Rangers together.

And, I don't have a record of all of serial numbers of all my "indiscretions" lol!

As I pull different guns for photos of Holsters, I now have a "Firearms Record" folder on the counter to start recording them. (The Rangers are first on the list!)

Uncle Lee has entrusted me with Ranger I's #134 and #135. They are living the life here in Arizona: Playing Golf, playing Pickleball, chasing the lonely wives at the country club, etc.   ;)

The 4" Ranger is a favorite! (but it seems like all of them are!  ;) )

With all the extra money pouring in, I've paid off the Cabin in Lake Tahoe, ordered a new Rolls Royce Phantom, and looked at yachts and airplanes  :o  lol!
