A co-worker recently dropped his 1 5/8 magnum mini and it landed right on the back of the grip frame. Then when he took it out to shoot the hammer locked back and wouldnt move. Has anyone had a hammer lock back ?  And is there anything I can do for it at home ? ap

I say don't gamble on a home brew fix. Even if normal cycling returns, there could still be some gremlins in there waiting to surface later. Take advantage of NAA's Customer Service to get it back to "as new" performance. You may be able to save some on shipping by going through your local FFL and using USPS Priority Mail.

Fine advise cheap enough to send USPS , less than 10 bucks in one of those special box rates just make sure it's not got any shells in it , I've known some guy to not unload it , he dam near got arrested when he showed what was in the box . I heard people in there hit the deck some of them others scooted off around corners , one woman made that ear piercing noise . They evidently take things like that seriously . Myself I don't offer any extra info about what it is just to not go through the formalities of show and tell .

If you have a FFL send it USPS fine & dandy. Don't even THINK about mailing it yoursef! You would save about $30.00 or so over UPS or Fedex. That works out to less then $10.00 a year if you were to get caught. :'(

Thanks guys, I will send it by my FFL if its Ok with him. Im still curious as to what broke or got out of alignment from the fall.

Post office isn't federal anymore and will send without any ffl. If you want you can show them at the desk the weapon just make sure you insure it and possibly have them sign for it on receiving . Having them sign for it actually insures it automaticly for I believe $500.00 bucks (could be wrong on amount). I've done a number of send offs over the years . Little known fact , NOT FEDERAL ANYMORE for years now .

It is a felony for an individual to ship a handgun by USPS.
It's legal for an individual to ship to an FFL by common carrier.

All I can figure it's different state to state , Here in Florida they once asked to see it showed them it didn't have bullets in it and off it went . Guess you better check with your carrier , sorry .

I am going to take you up on that idea. I am going to ask the Post Office next time I am in there. If it is possible it would make things so much easier and affordable compared to shipping UPS. They are a pain to ship just about anything through these days.

The repair ticket will have the details about what they found, and the repair(s) performed.

The post office is like so many other organizations: Not all employees know all the rules. It is a federal offense for an individual to ship a handgun via the USPS. Read the statue. It does not mention whether or not the USPS is a federal entity or not. If your local PO allows it, and it is discovered somewhere prior to getting delivering, it is YOUR butt, not the postal worker. As to being different state to sate: BS. Federal law is federal law. Period.

An individual can ship a long gun (rifle/shotgun) via USPS to an FFL holder or an individual within your own state. Any firearm going across state lines has to go to an FFL holder, unless it is going to the manufacturer or a licensed gunsmith for repair/modification.

With the attitude of the current administration, do you want to risk your freedom, and your future, by listening to an INTERNET "expert", especially one who is not known for his reliability nor objectivity?

Don't take my word for this. Go to the ATF web site and do your own research.

CAUTION,   YOU AS A PERSON, CANNOT TAKE A FIREARM OF ANY TYPE ON U.S.P.S. PROPERTY MUCH LESS MAIL IT! DO NOT GO TO JAIL OVER INFO YOU GET FROM ANYBODYS MESSAGE BOARD. PLAIN & SIMPLE , CHECK THE RULES FOR YOURSELF AND YOU HAVE NO ONE BUT YOURSELF TO BLAME FOR YOUR ACTIONS WHEN IT COMES TO ANY FIREARM !

Is it legal to ship a gun by USPS, if the cylinder is shipped separately, in another shipment, and is this a cost effective method of shipping?  Both packages could be labeled firearm parts.
God bless,

I have read in the law  what you are stating and realize this is probably still the case but since the point has been raised that it has been done; it is a simple procedure to call or visit the Post Master and find out. No gun has to be present and they should be able to set the record straight. I am just curious is all. Once again, cutting UPS out of the picture with their crazy overnightage piques my interest.

If you dissasemble the handgun. You can mail the cyl. You can mail the Bbl. (assuming it unscrews) You can mail any and all other parts. Except the frame. You can not mail the frame. The ATF considers that to be a firearm.

The only exception (unless you have a type 01 FFL) is, you can mail a ANTIQUE handgun. The ATF considers handguns mfg. before 1 Jan 1898 (could be 1899 not sure) as antiques not firearms. Whether you have to fill out some sort of spiceal form for the PO I don,'t know.

Confused yet?  We are talking about the Govt. The rules don't have to make sense. :o

Correction here : Read the statues and no handguns at all , only ffl. to ffl. or ATF approved businesses . No antiques that use modern ammo (rimfires included) . Rifles all day long can go person to person . I guess I just got lucky all these times . From what I believe I've read Richard Nixon seperated the post office from the federal standards back in 1981 . Father Richard like was said sending parts is still questionable nothing in the statues menstioning that and the postal people I also called were scratching their heads about that . So therevjays answer is as good as any with those guys (USPS) .

Careful on this one. Some States have additive regulations, such as California. Antique handguns are NOT exempt under their regs if loaded cartridge ammunition is currently available at "common sources".

Not your responsibility if a seller in that State happens to ship that way to you, but you sure don't want to ship into one of those States and violate their regs! Any inter-State crime becomes Federal. Crime utilizing the Post Office gets even more of their attention.  :'(
