Armybrat

Hello from Round Rock, Texas.

Bought my first mini, a .22lr, over 20 years ago. Discovered that it was too tiny for me to shoot, so I bought a .22WMR. Then bought a Guardian .32acp when they first came out.

Love these little jewels even though they've wound up being safe queens. Haven't paid much attention to the NAs over the years until the Breaktop was introduced.

However, I like to collect different handguns, so another Mini such as the Sidewinder has made it to my wish list.

Here are my Minis = please pardon the awful photography. I can't take pics to begin with and the new Photobucket format won't let me downsize pictures, so here's the link:

Welcome to the forum Armybrat!

May I suggest you try CVYang, Boot or Oversized grips they are a tremendous help with my catchers mitt type hands.

TwoGunJayne

Welcome! I agree with Rhett... the oversized are very nice.

Welcome to the board, "older timer" ArmyBrat. You've owned NAA's much longer than I have, but I have more of then! ;)

I hope you enjoy your stay here.

Hearty welcome and big thanks to whoever it was that served in the Army.  Since you da brat..maybe its your Daddy. Who knows? lol. Great part of the world you are inhabiting. I hung out around Austin for a bit so know that area a little. Kindly dont bees no lurker.

frimsure

Welcome Army Brat, you are more related to my sisters than I am since they are Air Force Brats and I'm the dependant son of an Air Force Officer, ie not a Brat. I like the holster grip, sine they give me shootability without fishing around in a pocket, although I'm going tomorrow to pick up a 22 short, and to keep it as small as possible, it'll probably reside inthe depths of my pocket

I figured you being from Texas, you wouldn't call yourself a holidaymaker on a ranch in the Western US

Welcome from the mountains of Western North Carolina. I lived in Amarillo for a spell and really enjoyed the view from the rear view mirror.

I lived in Texas during the summer of 1968. Problem is, I was born in late 1967, so I don't remember it much. ;D But I'd sure like to go back. I "miss" it every time I order a steak at Texas Roadhouse. ;)

Bigbird48

Hey Ya'll can ya tell me why its so hard to find A-1 Steak Sauce in TX. I asked for it at the Big Texan and they looked at me like I was from Mars or somtin. Gezzz Now I'm Hungry

cedarview kid

LOL. I've always believed that if you cook a steak right, you don't need steak sauce. Perhaps that's what they were implying. Of course, I like my steaks cooked medium rare. If you "burn" them, like my wife likes them, then I can see why you'd need some steak sauce. ;)

Bigbird48

Well to be Honest I didn't think their steaks were anything to brag about and a little A-1 would help. Your right if its a good steak you don't need anything. I rarely put anything on a good steak.
NOW NAA get going for those pictures LOL

TwoGunJayne

Home made A1:

Cook ketchup in a skillet until it turns brown, add a little vinegar and worchestershire.

A1 is basically "carmelized" ketchup.

LOL i spent a summer in texas with my grand parants. i was 9 and all i remember is toads the sizes of 12" plates.

Really? Well, I think Texas Roadhouse has had some of the best steaks I've ever had. And I grew up on a small farm where we slaughtered our own beef. And I usually get just the ribeye there, which isn't really considered the best cut.

No pictures today! :(

Dang yall are opening up some way scabbed over old nostalgia wounds here. Congrats to whoever was born in Tejas or got here as quick as they could. My paternal Grandma was an escapee from NC and her hubby was a refugee from Tenn. I really have a heart for them two places. I show yall a link to her Uncle sometime..he helped kicked Santa Anna's coola at San Jacinto. I have spent several lifetimes trying to survive a week in Amarillo. If they was to give Texas an enema..that would be where the nozzle goes..lol. None of the locals would dare eat at the Big Tex thing. Thats a tourista place. I always got drug around the corner to the Red Barn. Was looking a bit thread bare last we was there..but the groceries were tolerable. j/k about Armadillo..lot of real nice folks up there. Now the geography is the pits..lol.

bud

I was at a Texas Roadhouse last week, and had a nice salad, bread sticks, rolls, baked potato, steak, and lots of peanuts! :)

cedarview kid

Sounds like my last experience, Bud--except on the peanuts. Not only am I not a big fan of peanuts, but if they aren't roasted enough, I'm mildly allergic to them. Most nuts are that way for me. But if I roast them (or buy them that way), I'm fine.

(In fact, I'm probably one of the only people out there who cooks radishes, because they bother me if I eat them raw, but they're fine cooked. I usually microwave them in a cup of water. Raw peas almost completely close off my airways, so I don't eat them, and cooked peas are just nasty, so they're out altogether.)

Red meat, like steak, has sometimes been bothering me over the past year and half, too, even after I had my gall bladder removed about a year ago.

Eating has become such of an annoyance sometimes, but I think I'm still addicted to it, so I'll keep it up for now.

bigwheel

Seems to recall trying that place before. Do they have the all you can eat smoked sirloin for 14 bucks?  I have a coupla cheap skate gluttonous pals who wears em out on that deal. That may be Texas Land and Cattle. Its on 121 in Useless seems like. Anyway they also have some of the best huge steak house burgers a person ever go a lip lock on. I always get that because its economical and comes with fries. Water to drink. They charge two bucks for tea?

cedarview kid

Dunno B-Dub. I haven't seen that on the menu. We just got a couple locally a couple years ago, but we found we like 'em. Every time we go there, I tell the wife I wanna move to Texas. ;)

MCTEX

Don't forget that Texas is a firearm friendly state.

bigwheel

Ok think I am getting the pic here...and double checked with the Warden.  We have eat at that place a bunch and I dont like it too much..in fact it is just across the freeway from our crib. They give wooden horsey rides on your birthday. I can tolerate the shishkabob slightly. Texas Land and Cattle is much better. The yups and cute secretaries go in there to get drunk cheap on weekday afternoons. Now her and the eldest of the male chillins loves the place. She say they have good steaks and he got a horsey ride. He could be prejudiced. She would not know a good steak if it bit her in the coola. Plenty of room left Brother..come on down:) Double dittos on the firearm friendly atmosphere. Now we just need to find some bullets.

cedarview kid

Hope nobody thinks we're terrorist for hijacking the New Dude's thread... ;)

Bigbird48

@Bigwheel hell you all I was a tourist was just passin thru and heard about that big Texan place on the internet in NH so when I saw it we had to stop for lunch. Should have kept drivin LOL

bigwheel

Well to continue to hijack the thread from Army Brat..bet he found happy hour somewhere. I been around lot of Brats. I know how they think so to speak..lol.
Anyway on to Amarillo. For some reason that place used to be a mecca for the pro TV wrestlers. Not sure whether they was locals or what but they was whoppers. Five or six hundred lbs each. They come in and had the five pound and all the trimmings for lunch and got the eat free thing..then come back and knocked out a similar set up for supper. They was supposedly politely axed to don't come back. Now is that on the brochures or maybe just a local urban myth around there. Its hard to decide.

Bigbird48

Boy anybody that can eat that  freebee deserves it LOL

bigwheel

We hear ya Sir. Sure some try to watch the guy on TV who try's to max stuff his gut on the varioius eating contests. It can get sorta intense for them with squeamish tummies..lol.

Armybrat

I've lived in Texas for 54 years, but have never eaten at a Texas Roadhouse.  They did open a couple of them here in the Austin area several years ago, but we haven't made it to one yet.

Dinadan

Armybrat - nice trio of guns you have there.  What Part of Texas is Round Rock in? I have crossed and visited Texas several times, do not recognize the place name.

Bigbird48

Dinadan Round Rock is about 20 miles north of Austin

Dont let our pal be too modest on the geography. That is called the Hill Country and is some of the purtiest available in God's Country. They have trees..rocks and water etc. Or they did have water. I think they still in a bad old drought down there and about like everywhere else. Up in the regular part o Texas Whiskeyta Falls..Vernon..Plainview etc..or fixing to dry up and blow away. I got a feeling the Lord is mad about something. Hope Obie and the new Pope can fix it.

I have a daughter and 4 grand kids that lives in Spring Texas. :)

bigwheel

Never been to Spring but heard about. Close to Jouston? Had an old pard who was a Harris County Narc back in the 60's. He had some wild stories. Also taught me a highly valuable lesson. Anybody from Channelview has warrants out on em from somewhere.
