Man....   This sucks !!!

Anyone who has been on the Board for any time recognizes this as one of Chopprs' beautiful pair engraved by Otto.

When the pi**in' contest went down with the Duracoat Dipsh*ts, I pleaded with him not to let it come to this.

I only wish I had the wherewithall to rescue this beautiful pistol.  Alas, I'm getting ready to do a FTF for a BW which I really will enjoy adding to my NAA collection.

Yea Coop I see that's Choppers gun.  Didn't think he would actually do it but I guess he decided to get rid of it.  Wonder if he is selling the big one to or just the little one...

antares_b

If this had come up before Christmas, it would be mine now, dang it.

cedarview kid

Wow, that's a perty son of a gun. (Get it? Son? Gun? It's a short? Oh, nevermind.)

If I had that much extra cash, it would be mine. I'd love to own it--especially since I know where it came from. :-/

I hate this kind of thing too. Chopprs signed off about a week before I signed on;

but I have read and appreciated a lot of his posts. Something about message

boards seems to feed the escalation of trivial arguments into bigger arguments.

I can tell you this - if I ever own one of Chopprs' revolvers engraved by Otto - well

the saying about prying my gun out of my cold dead hand would be a hell of a lot

more literal! I would put in my will that it had to be bruried with me!

heyjoe

I was thinking about bidding on this gun but with all those unsightly lines on the gun i would have to have it duracoated after i got it to make it presentable. I was thinking of something along the lines of Joseph's Multicolor Coat.

i also got rid of my mini's for the same reason chopps did  ain't right that a rep. from a company would stoop so low. i will NEVER buy any naa again because of this  growl. ps heyjoe that ain't funny, hopfully you were jus mockin the duracoat guy.  .......someone's butt buddy perhaps allowed this. ps only reason i'm still here is some of ya are cool, some real cool ruffruff

Those of us who assumed that the Duracoat Dipsh*ts were connected to NAA in general, and Sandy in particular, (and I was certainly among them), were mistaken.

I received a return email from Sandy stating that they were nothing beyond a customer, maybe able to buy at distributer price points, I forget.  I also assumed that they had been selected to provide the gold plated minis-  also incorrect.  They were invited to submit a bid on the project, but were "not in the ballpark", to quote Sandy.

Sandy reiterated his position about having message board "discussions" degenerate to the extent they had.  He expressed a little regret that Topgun had worded her reprimand the way she did, but defended her in principle.

It's sad that anyone feels the need to divest themselves of their NAA collections as a result of this situation, but especially sad to see Choppr's beautiful mini on the block.  Hopefully, the reserve will not be met, and he can take some time to reconsider.

In the end, we all make our own decisions and must be responsible for our own actions. Anybody who leaves this forum for whatever reason has that right to do that and I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. We're all big boys and girls.

I thought the "grow up" comments were a bit harsh myself, but let's get over it, eh? I said it before this whole thing blew out of proportion and i'll say it again: Let's move on.

I, for one, would have no hesitation in buying such a fine NAA firearm as the one featured at the above link, regardless of it's history.

Yea I don't really think a pissing match between a couple of board members and some bs distributor that spraypaints his guns changes what the gun is.  I still don't see how they think NAA picked sides they simply asked them to grow up..a little harsh?  Maybe but really is it worth throwing a crying fit and selling some of your favorite guns??  I tend to think not but whatever to each his own.  I am with you collector still have 'em still carry 'em and will still buy 'em...

heyjoe

make no mistake aboput it NAA picked sides. Lets not kid ourselves here or fall all over ourselves revising what happened. Long time productive, helpful, informed, entertaining Board members were told to grow up and were branded as immature, while the duracoat mafia was allowed to taunt those thus chastised for days on end after that. Nothing was said to them to stop it. I have three NAA's, im planning on at least 2 more, i like the board, i like the people who post, i get a good laugh from time to time in an otherwise neverending day of pain, but im not going to kiss anyone's butt and if they dont want me here they can feel free to delete me.

the cold war all over again. I dont think that any party involved didnt make some mistakes, jump to conclusions,or make some poor comments, it was all crap that could have and should have been avoided or resolved in a better manor, it didnt... life goes on, so lets all get over it and move on before it happens all over again

westerly1965

I'm sorry but both choppers and Barky were acting immaturely period Topgun was right.  And we don't know that the Duracoat guys weren't also chastised by NAA it may very well have been done in private and in fact most likely was if they are getting any kind of special pricing or treatment from NAA.  Your right Madhat life goes on most of us have long since forgotten to even care about what happened lol.  I like this board and the members on it to much to get my panties in a bunch over what "someone at the factory" said to me about "something that really matters so little in life" LOL.  That said anybody bidding on Chopps shorty??  It's a sweet gun (one that I cannot afford mind you) but a really sweet gun none the less!

lohman446

In fairness its not like anyone was banned.  I know at least one new member who was run off by the old guard during the time, and frankly the fight (from both sides) seemed a lot like what happens between my teenage daughter and her friends.  Am I defending anyone involved?  No.

However choices to move on, to go or stay, those were made by individuals.  Noone forced it on them.  The individuals who complained the most about the treatment they received surely did not have clean hands.  Though Madhat is right, its time to move on.

If those offended were so offended this is what htey feel they need to do, so be it.

Heyjoe I don't want to start an argument with you.  For the record though I was prowling this site for over a year before I signed up and posted for the first time.  Not that it matters and not that you care.  I'm just saying.  Chopps and Barky were both good guys they both also had the ability to be dicks and none of us know what "actually" happened.  Remember there are three sides to every story his theirs and the truth...

lohman446

Heyjoe, I need you to expand on what you mean about the 90 day wonder comment?  Are my thoughts and observations null and void because you have, *gasp* an entire year and a half more?  I did not realize that this message board was set up in a way that only allowed posting after a certain period.  Join date is as unreliable as post count on judging the content of a post.

I have a teenage daughter, I know childish behaviour when I see it, and thats what this is.   Sorry to not state it in a politically correct manner, but sometimes things are what they appear to be.

Wyn is right (in the post below).  The intent is not to throw those who decided to leave under the bus, but nor are they martyrs.

As far as I remember The duracoat guns were put on gunbroker and were asking a high price. Chpprs and Barky thought they were expensive and were lowballing bids in an effort to get some sort of rise out of the duracoat party. If someone buys an NAA gun they can do whatever they want with it. I wouldn't buy one but it is their choice. When chopprs and barky got called out on it they decide to leave and sell their guns. Their decision also. One thing I have learned is NOONE is indispensable. got good advice from chopprs but if they want to leave then that is their decision.

westerly1965

Agreed Wyn.  Speaking of Duracoat....had a friend redo an old shotgun in duracoat not to long ago...in that application it actually turned out really nice.  I wouldn't use it on something as nice as an NAA but it was an old beat up model 12 that really needed some love and when he was done with it it looked really good.  Back to the trap range for many more years of shooting!

heyjoe

What it means Lohman is that the friction with the duracoat mafia went back a long time before the latest tiff. When the duracoated guns in bumble bee design or red were first posted by the duracoaters themselves here, some people felt that they were less than asthetically pleasing and others felt that painting your gun such colors could lead to problems down the road, with kids thinking they were toys, not being taken seriously in a situation where the gun was needed, being used against police who might be hesitate to respond in a timely manner because they werent sure about the gun etc.

NO matter what reason you had for not liking the color you were sure to get an agressive response in private message and on the board. That progressed into as you know a phone call at one of the posters place of business. If you post something on a board, you have to expect some people not liking it or voicing their opinion. you are after all posting it and its open for discussion.

To be fair there were color schemes that were posted that were favorably received such as black, camouflage etc. Some of them were nice looking The duracoaters just could not take any criticism. Personally i wouldnt want to get involved in any business dealing with them based on their over the top reactions.

As far as you and Westerly personally, from day one on here you have posted the board should be run this way or that way, or this one is wrong or that one is wrong, or i dont like reading certain type of posts so dont post them. Both of you have consistently lambasted chopprs and barky. So you dont care if they left i get that. I doubt too many will care when you leave either, i know i wont.
It's too bad that our friends cant be here with us today

lohman446

Fair enough.  Not knowing their history and not giving them the benefit of it I called the behaviour I saw for what it was, and both sides were guilty of it.  Its NAAs boards, how it is run is up to them.  That being said I am guilty of noting that the reception some new posters received at the time was less then friendly.

There were some good points brought up about duracouted guns no doubt and possible safety issues, and I am not the target market of them (as in, I would not buy them).  Still the lack of maturity surrounding the issue was astounding and did not do anyone, or these boards, any favors.
"If someone has a gun and is trying to kill you, it would be reasonable to shoot back with your own gun" - Tenzin Gyatso - the 14th dalai lama

westerly1965

OK fair enough.  But for the record I was prowling this board when those initial pictures were posted.  I thought the behavior was over the top and immature then and I stand by that decision regarding the last issue.  ON BOTH SIDES!!!  I have not seen or heard anything from the duracoat guys either so maybe they to decided to not frequent this forum.

As to telling you how the board should be run in the time I have been posting I have made one comment regarding that and that was simply to say that it is an unmoderated board and I thought that the people on it wanted it to stay that way!  If that gets your panties in a hitch sorry I stand corrected the board should hereby and henceforth be run however all you long termers (you know like the guys that have been posting here a whole year and a half before me dictate) and I promise to fall into line immediately.  For the record I have never heard Lohmann say anything about how anything should or could be run (but perhaps that's simply because I didn't see the post you are referring to.)

As far as Chops and Barky go I liked em both.  Thought they both had good things to say and good info to spread around.  However, in fairness my view of Barky has been lowered knowing that he just changed his screen name and continued to prowl around and start crap like posting this thread LOL.  But hey to each his own, doesn't really effect me.

If you would like to post or email me the "proper behavior on your board" spreadsheet.  I will be most pleased to look it over and do my best to modify my behavior to please you.

mrmadhat

and why exactly is newguy, barky being brought into this discussion for starting this thread? i dont see anything there to stir a pot other then the gun for sale is chopprs... big deal, I believe there are a number of guns brought up in all sorts of threads that are someones, somewhere.... how about we DROP IT already... the duracoat arguement has been done with for months, why cant it stay dead and what is so wrong with someone who wants to contribute to a forum changing thier SN to post without the conflict... get over it people

westerly1965

Agreed Madhat enough said....all I meant by the by the SN change was that it seemed silly to me.  I don't think that NAA had any bones to pick with him and I didn't think that he needed to make a name change for anybody's sake.  Just something I wouldn't have done that's all I meant no big.

Looks like the little gun is getting some pretty good bidding going to its up to 500 with 9 or so days left on it.  Bet it goes for more then 750 theres gotta be tons of people out there drooling over it...

Much to do about nothing! There are more important things to think about. Who cares!

Well, guys... It's me that ended up with the Buntline that Chopprs had Otto Carter engrave:

It has moved west and lives on the eastern edge of the Rockies now.

Truthfully, I hated to see him part with it, and I've really missed reading his and Barky's posts on this forum. But when he seemed determined to let it go, I had to take a shot at it. It really appealed to me. It's a beautiful firearm. I didn't go for the Short also because I didn't want to spend that much money. The Short matches the Buntline, and I must say, the quality of the engraving is absolutely amazing. If it appeals to you, go for it. You won't be disappointed. In my opinion, these guns are heirloom quality collectors items.

And irregardless of who was to blame for what in the whole painted gun meltdown, if you've been a daily reader of this forum for several months or more, you know that the result has been a bad thing for all of us. Chopprs and Barky had a lot to say, most of which was very informative and entertaining.

westerly1965

Kingrichard....awesome.  I am glad that it went to a forum member.  I see the short is up to 625 wonder who is going to get that....if its not a forum member I bet we get a new forum member out of it..

cedarview kid

That's the one I would have loved to own, KR. Mind telling us what you paid? (You don't have to....)

westerly1965

Yea that is a really gorgeous gun....

cedarview kid

SOLD! for $750. (But not to me.)

westerly1965

I saw that somebody hit the buy it now button.  To bad I really thought if the bidding was allowed to close it would go for more then that.  But CONGRATS to whoever got it if it was one of the forum members!!
