Has anyone shot a ported model ? What would the benefits be if any? I own a 22lr model but have an opportunity to buy a 22lr ported
Thanks

The gun does twist upward in your hand quite a bit as it is hard to hold. It is possible that porting may help but the short moment arm makes me question how effective it would be.

daveyinpa - welcome to the forum. I have a Ported Blackjack with a 1 5/8 inch barrel, and a Magnum Mini with a 1 5/8 inch barrel. Basically identical in size and weight. I shot a couple of cylinders of CCI Maximags from the Blackjack, and then I shot my 1 5/8 Magnum Mini because I wanted to see if the ports actually made a difference in muzzle jump. I figured that shooting them just a couple of minutes apart I should notice any difference. My conclusion was that if the porting did reduce jump then I could not detect it.

I have shot similarly and cannot tell the difference either.  It seemed to be that perhaps the muzzle flash was slightly larger on the blackjack.  I was shooting with my son and thought that when he at the firing line.

Dinadan...have your BJ grips loosened?  I have tried to retighten with no success.

Unfortunately, the porting did seem to increase muzzle blast; the Blackjack was definitely worse than the Magnum Mini. Actually I guess it was porting blast since it came from the ports. I had forgotten about that until I looked at my old post (http://northamericanarms.com/naaminis.com/smf/index.php?topic=4422.msg70864#msg70864) about the Blackjack. My grips have not loosened, but other than one trip to the range my Blackjack has been a safe queen. I should shoot it more because I like the pin sight on the BJ a lot better than I like the blade sight on the standard Mini.

Other than owning another mini, I don't see much advantage.

Many owners of ported pistols complain of having more flash due to the ports.  Blinding the shooter seems to be the #1 change.   Considering the short barrels, how much downward force can be leveraged?  If the barrel was 6 inches or longer...  Also, 22lr is designed to burn as it travels about 16 -20 inches, so it is still burning as it comes out the ports.

I have a bushing compensator on my 1911, but it is a mainly for show.

Novelties seldom have any practical use , like this , who needs more flash except on the fourth of July . :) :)
TO ARMS , TO ARMS the liberal socialists are coming . Load and prime your weapons . Don't shoot till you see their UN patches or the Obama bumper stickers , literally . And shoot any politician that says he wants to help you or us .

Put it in the gun safe next to the S&W 460 and 500.

The best way to keep one from rising like that is to get the oversize rubber grips (Mini-Master, Black Widow) for Magnums.  They will make your gun a little longer, but they  really fill up your hand, and give you a much greater purchase on your weapon.

Back onto the thread topic, I love the look of the ported guns.  I just don't believe they help shooting-wise, and just leave another place for dirt to get in.
