A much better grip for the 22LR

I have a Black Widow, but have always wanted the TINY 1 1/8" barrel 22 LR  version. I got one yesterday, but the standard grip is way too small and slippery, so I modified a NAA rubber slip on grip(NAA part # GSO-M), that is only made for the magnum frame, by notching out the top and bottom to fit the 22 LR frame. The difference is like night and day! The rubber slip-on grip is larger, and even seems to stick to your hand! I carry the little 22 LR on my belt in a small camera case, which makes it easy to draw in any position, especially when sitting in a car or chair.

That's pretty brilliant! Does the grip fit tightly, like it does on a mag frame? It seems like there would be a lot of empty space at the bottom because the listed height of the LR is 1/2" less than a mag.

Hello, Shovel-ready project. Good Question! I found out that after notching the top and underside of the grip to clear the hammer and behind the trigger, the grip, when forced on, actually bottoms out at the butt of the gun, and is 90% as tight as it would be on a magnum frame. And if you have ever put one of the slip-on grips on a magnum frame, you know hard they are to put on.

boone123

That looks like a GOOD plan.

That sounds like a no-brainer new accessory for NAA to offer.

Let's see: take the gun model that has a reputation for being the hardest to hang onto. Take a grip out of the parts bin that is quite easy to hang onto. Do a little engineering to make a perfect fit. And there it is! They should send you a reward.

Mainstreet - that is a good idea. It looks pretty good too.

I sent Sandy an email and photo of the modified slip-on grip, and suggested he try making one himself. It will be interesting to see if he does, and what his opinion would be. I don't know where they source their grips, but the ideal solution would be for them to offer one with the same  external dimensions as the magnum, but sized internally and notched for an EXACT fit on the 22 LR frame.

Very Very clever mainstreet!!!!

Good job.

Well I've been wanting to change the grips on my short and LR and then along came mainstreet and showed me the way!!!!
I think the Magnum slip ons work better then if NAA made LR slip ons. These Mag work like mini oversize grips. Thanks again mainstreet....  8)

Proves the old saying necessity is the mother of invention , excellent idea . I little silicone caulking on the bottom edge of the back strap might fill in the gap before slipping on , can't hurt .   ;)

OV they are much easier to install on the LR frame then the Magnum and you would think they would be loose but that is not the case. They are far tighter then you would think and I like the look on the small frame better then on the Mag.
A little better picture (the last one was not so good)

Hey there Nastruck I was talking about filling the void in the bottom of the rubber grip . The l.r. frame can't possibly reach all the way and bottom out on the mag. grip , I could be wrong but from just looking the l.r. frame falls just a little short and not quite at the bottom . Great idea for sure , like everyone says the bigger the grip the better .  :) :)

OV if you look at the picture of mine or mainstreets you will see how much further they slide onto the frame. There is no gap they fit tight to the butt of the frame.
Hats of to mainstreet again because I would have never thought it would work either but it really works well....

gebe

That's a really neat idea mainstreet! Good on you.

As an aside, I really love the rubber slip on grips. I tried almost everything on my Mini Mag and they are best by far. Really stick to your hand and aid immensly in control of the gun.

I agree that they look great on the .22's!

cwlongshot

I also like these grips and they are my EDC mini...

I really like the look of them on the short!

I may just have to try too!

Thanks for thinking OUTSIDE the box!!

VOILA! They now have a 22 LR version. I ordered one, and will post a picture of it, and my review, when it gets here in a few days.

NelsonIII

Awesome, when I order a .22LR, this is the grip I will have on it, well done sir.

MR_22

Yeah, that's definitely an interesting options.

Welcome, Nelson!

Got the new 22 LR rubber slip-on grip. Awesome! It is almost the same size as the modified 22 Magnum slip-on grip, and feels about the same in my hand. Fits perfectly, and they are not kidding when they say put a touch of gun oil on the frame before sliding it on. Here is a picture of the new grip compared to the standard wood grip. Thanks NAA!

Which do you prefer on the 22lr?  The mag or LR slip on grip?
The mag grip looks a bit thicker, which might be good.

I really dislike the stock grip and the holster grip is a bit bulky.

That mag grip comes up almost like the c vang grip

I've never tried a rubber grip. I pocket carry. Does the rubber grip ever hang up in the pocket slowing down removal?

grayelky

Excellent idea. I never would have tried, 'cause I know it wouldn't work. Okay, seems I may not know everything. Who would have thought my wife may be right?

There's definitely a market for such an option, I have huge hands and had a mini in 22LR at one time but sold it due to it being so hard to get hold of and the possibility of getting my hand in front of the barrel, it was just too small and slippery.

;D  Funny, Gray!
So, making guns illegal will take them off the street?
Perfect!  We should probably make heroine and meth illegal, too!

silverback

How do those grips compare to stock grips in black widow?

Another reason I may order the Slip on mag grip for my 22lr mini.
Why I was curious how the 22lr and 22mag grips compare.

The 22mag slip on grip looks like the grip the Pug ships with.

Well, the rubber grips are hard for me to  hold on to so I have some to get rid of, the orange Bug Out Box on was easy to remove.  I had to toss some of the others because they ripped.
