The big boy lives in Griffith park / Hollywood Hills. The canyons are full of homes of the rich ,famous, and homeless. Every few months the big story is about some starlet finding a paw or tail of what was her small dog. Farther north they find bears soaking in the hot tubs. The weather is good all year. No hibernation. No hunters. Nothing to do but eat.

Look up the Hollywood sign on Google earth.

  Turns out our big boy has himself stuck in a park that is too small a a space for a big cat. He may be the Top Cat in Hollywood with plenty to eat but there are no girl cats in his park. He is lonely--can't get laid.  What the animal people want to do is build a big  wild life bridge over the freeway for him. A $30 million bridge. Men have been known to run across the freeway on foot to solve that problem. Only in California.

It would be a lot cheaper to tranquilize him and move him to another location, it's only a matter of time until there's a run in with a human in a heavily populated area like that. particularly when he gets "old and grumpy".

Two comments on the pictures posted some time back, the guy on the bike is obviously a complete idiot, if the cougar thinks he's stopped there because he's after his road kill, things could get ugly very quickly.

Secondly, you said it's always warm there, yet the picture of Jennifer Aniston proves it wasn't warm the day that picture was taken, seems it was a little "nippy".

Red-- In Ca it would be too easy to use common sense and just dart him. This would violate his "rights" to live where he wants regardless of his "species". His park is the far east end of the  Santa Monica range. You all have seen it on TV.  They filmed "Mash" at the other end. Good critter country.

Our bikers (not motorcycle) are not too sharp. Winding roads with blind turns they take the center line.

About the weather. I said it was  good not always warm. My father in law was from up state New York. He said his best summers were his winters in California. "Nippy" weather is good weather, as you can see.

The more I look at the photo of the deer-lion-biker,the more I think you can't fix stupid.

Doesn't that bicyclist have any idea that the cat could be on him in a flash??

Considering all of the cougar vs cyclist attacks in CA,I guess now the cougars are preferring cyclists to other game.

If the one in the photo is a common example,it appears that they are easy prey.

  I especially like that California (L.A. area) thinks its gouache to have wildlife trying to irk out a living amongst the Hollywood crowds , sooner or later these animals will be destroyed because of being a nuisance just wait and see . Whats next bison and elk putting their hoof prints in cement at that Chinese restaurant . These people are way too liberal for their own goods , what a dopey bunch .

The one with the camera/phone will probably end up being desert. He will stand there and film the entire event and probably even photograph the cougar the cougar coming at him.

He'll immediately forgive the animal from his hospital bed saying it was just following it's natural instincts and yet he didn't realize that beforehand.  If it proves fatal his dying words will be something like "it isn't like this in the Disney movies, I'm still cuddling and petting  him, but he has so much latent anger".

I own some land that has a lot of cougars on and around it, I always carry a 444 mag when visiting or camping there. (Bears and possibly wolves there now too. Even with a 44 mag in hand it would be really stupid to be that close to a cougar under any circumstances even if hunting one tag in hand, let alone one eating - a tactical withdrawal would be called for unless you are looking to get hurt and/or kill a magnificent animal for no good reason, when predictably it becomes a threat.

It's funny how when a human commits some heinous,  violent act, they are often referred to as animals and yet when faced with real wild animals this fact escapes many who totally overlook that analogy and want to take selfies with them and pet them. An animal will kill or severely injure you without any conscience, or compassion in a similar way to your sociopathic serial killer, the ones we often describe as animals.

OV-1D-- No need for him to eek out a living. Because we are not allowed  to control the smaller critters there is plenty to eat. Our top critters are well fed. If we run out of bunnies then there are still cats and dogs. Just like in the carniceria!

The 911 call is useless in most cases around here. Except in the case of a car wreck.

 I believe that's one of the problems with our culture , heck any culture , is that some people have wild species as pets as shown in books and T.V. so the general thought is thinking all of them can be approached and somewhat petted with little or no caution . Someone has to tell the animals (both human and furry).
