Hello all, newbie here. Just ordered my NAA Black Jack. What's the consensus on type and brand of .22 Magnum ammo to use? Also, can I use a shot load in the BJ?

   Thanks for you're advice.

I use the Hornady Critical Defense in my Blackjack and like it quite a bit. The Speer short barrel personal protection round is also an option. I've yet to see it at my local shop and refuse to pay $10+ for shipping so I can't speak from experience. Yes you can use shot shells although I have not. Awsome NAA choice by the way. I put the rubber grips on mine and like it's appearance even better.

   Welcome to the forum!

I have tried both the Hornady and the Speer Gold Dot, and like both. If I given the choice, I prefer Hornady due to its slightly smaller "fireball".

welcome Azkahuna,

You should be able to use factory shotshells in your mini,,,,,,but if it has porting I can't say with 100% certainty. Many people frown on 22 shotshells, especially from a short barrel, for self-defense purposes. I view them as possible rat/snake shot or novelty, but not a wise choice against 2-legged predators.

Most CCI ammo works reliably and effectively imo. I am a big fan of the Speer Gold-Dot ShortBarrel SD ammo. If that is not available to you, look for the CCI maxi-mag TNT, Remington Premier, Winchester Supreme.....

Got my Black Jack, some Hornady Critical Defense and CCi Shotshell. Now if only PatriotJoe would answer his emails and posts I can get a holster made.

Who else makes holsters for NAA Magnums?

NAA.

I have a slightly worn inside waist band holster that had the belt clip get sprung/pulled out of shape on. I removed the metal clip and use it for a pocket holster for my Wasp.

Here is the Naa page for the blackjack holsters that they offer:

Patriotjoe is probably busy making holsters, you can try looking at his ebay listings:

And one inexpensive pocket holster($15) that I like is comfortable and has optional extra pockets for a knife or spare cylinder:

I've used one of these daily for a few months now and no complaints, especially for $15.
