......so we have to wait another month.

louiethelump

" this model will enter production at some point in the summer."

This means "another month" to you????????

   REALLY?????

Like the saying goes - everything costs more and takes longer. Actually, I was thinking

that the Sidewinder would start shipping in the autumn. Maybe winter, now. As for how

long to hit the general market: well, I have yet to see a Sheriff at a gun show. I hope

   it moves faster than that.

45flint

It would be good to at least see a proto type to see what we are talking about

CavScout

In computer terminology, it sounds like the SideWinder is in the final stages of debugging code and about to go into Alpha Testing.

I wonder which I will have first, the Sidewinder or the KSG?

The price on the KSG is starting to dip below $1500.00.

At first, I thought this may have been an April Fools Day joke, so went to NAA website to check and see what Sandy's Soapbox said there. Same thing. Not a joke. I have been going to the NRA show countdown clock every morning, even before checking my email, just to give my anticipation level a boost. Now I feel like a child on Christmas Eve that had been watching the Norad Radar track of Santa's progress on TV, and having them announce Santa had disappeared from the radar. Now I am going to hold my breath until I turn blue, and throw a tantrum the likes of has never been seen!

Uncle_Lee

I'll chip in on your flowers.

You are going to have to hold your breath a very LONG time, I think.

mainstreet that was funny.

there is a poster here who is going to the show and promised to post photos if possible. so you have something to look forward to in a few weeks.

Like several of you, I had hoped the actual release of the production model would be just after the formal announcement. However, if you stop and think (there is that word again) back, Sandy never said "release" at the NRA show, he only said "announcement". It seems the working prototype is not quite as far along as we, or at least, I, had envisioned. As mentioned above, we will at least get:

   1) a photo or 2

   2) more time to collect nickels an dimes from the sofa cushions.

Patience. I hate having to have it.

It would be nice to see at least a concept drawing.

Don't say I never gave you anything....

Uncle_Lee

Thanks Kevin I needed that.

Now I got a rough idea of what I am getting.

Ya,

BUT, better than I could have done.

Best way to draw a sidewinder---would be out of a holster.../

   SOON!

gokyo

That drawing really made me laugh.  Thanks.  Good thing I had not started my cheerios, or you sir, would owe me a new Keyboard.

sandyeggo

Looking at my Dirty Harriet Smith & Wesson 22LR, just picture it scaled down....and 5 shots, not 10, scaled way down....

louiethelump

Good luck with that vision.............

LOL, that dog needs a cigar in his mouth !

I had to take them from him.  He is too young and it may stunt his growth and his ears drag the ground for his whole life................

I don't think it will have a thumb release latch.

I think it will be a pull pin.

Open the cylinder from the frame.

   Push pin to dump empties.
God, Country, & Flag

LET'S GO BRANDON ( he is gone to the beach )

louiethelump

I predict further that the pin will be a separate piece and you will punch out the empties one at a time like you do now.  Only the cylinder will stay attached.  MAYBE they will fit star extractors from the Ranger and it will not be that bad.  Then you have front support issues to correct with the cylinder to overcome.  We will see.  Lack of a thumbpiece latch is a given considering the amount of space or lack of space inside that tiny frame to put it.

I would say it is going to be closer to early H&R.  After finding out it is just the same old same old with a swing out cylinder, and not a 32acp mini, I bought a couple more Rugers with the money I had put back.  If it is just under Ranger price of $500, I can get a delightful little Bearcat for that.

chopprs

I agree and feel that the star ejector is too much of a manufacturing cost. If it does in fact have one it will be a neat little gun but I doubt it will. I also will say again that $500 is too much for most people to pay for a miniature, palm sized gun. I see what peeps say at the LGS when they look at the Pug that has been there for over a year. They put it back and make a comment about the over $300 price being too much for "that" and they buy an LCP or a P3AT for the same money. I have both and I never carry the .380 as my 9mm is just a hair larger but for someone that has none of the above I do understand. I hope Sandy doesn't make the same mistake twice......

flowder

I am with ya on the Bearcat, Louie. and the dog looks better with the cigar.

45flint

I think you are right if it has a star I think you would be approaching a Ranger In complexity.  pull pin swing out and punch out with pin.  Anything more than that would be surprising to me but I am ready to be surprised.   Should not be long before we at least see the concept.

CavScout

What would be eliminated from the complexity of the Ranger would be the fitting of the frame joint, and the integral ejector cam components... a lot of hand fitting to get working right.

A spring loaded captive pull-pin coaxial to the hand ejector rod would be simpler to fit. The complexity would be integrating a ball detent where the crane nestles in the frame for support at the front of the cylinder.

Sandy states in the Soapbox: "...were off put by the requirement to "disassemble" it into several pieces which they might mishandle in order to load and unload it" would seem to validate an ejector star approach.

chopprs

Cavscout, I agree that the Rager's hand fitment is an expensive integral part of the Ranger but I think you are reaching a bit reading into Sandy's remark. I think a big part of what will be the final product is keeping cost down. Just a $50 difference puts the gun in a different view for many and if they could make it $400 instead of $500 they surely would sell a ton more.......
