I own a old house in a small mountainous town. Its a long ways from where I live, but dirt biked from out of there for years. I have seen the other side of the mountain. There are deer in my yard, mountain loins in the brush, and about every other wild animal that can jump in front of a dirt bike. I and everybody around there, seems to have wild turkeys. Its common to see 6 to 8 deer or turkeys on the lawns in the neighbor hood. I am amazed at how long a deer can stand on its back legs eating apples out of a tree. I started out on this to talk about turkeys.  Turkeys play. A flock of turkeys walked through my yard one morning last year, like one behind the other as they always do, and I heard one turkey make a noise, and they all got into a circle  about 8 ft. in diameter and trotted around like a merry go round for about 2or 3 min. There was about 8 of them. They then just moved on eating. Just something I had never seen or heard of before. I think Thanksgiving got me thinking how strange that was. Any of you turkey hunters ever see anything like that?

I used to see a lot of wild turkey when I would go deer hunting, and still see wild turkey in my son's front yard in Michigan, but never saw anything like that! :o

I have watched the hens form a circle around a tom and run but never at this time of year.
That is in mating season.

Once seen a bunch of turkeys doing the chicken dance on more than one ocassion . Mostly at a weddings . Again folks Happy Thanksgiving . Ever have mashed turnip with a pile of butter floating on top ? Best thing since mashed potatoes and gravy . How about creamed pearl onions . I just as soon throw the turkey away and mow down the gravies . My GOD bless us all forever .

ov-Id..
Maybe your turkey might tast different than it used to  because most of the corn turkeys used to eat now goes for ethanol. Turkey meat  now might be mostly recycled bugs and other waste.

THANKS boone now you ruined the gravy too .

Why not feed the turkeys the ethanol? They wouldn't be so upset on the way to the packing house.

The best part of Thanksgiving dinner is the stuffing, gravy, and cranberry sauce. I never cared that much for roast turkey. Although it makes a good sandwich cold the next day. (with lots more cranberry sauce)

I also like turnips mashed or just boiled, they arn't bad peeled, sliced  and served raw on a saled plate either.

Thats a good idea sliced turnip a lttle salt . Wild thought sprinkle light brown sugar on them . Potatoe pancakes patted with cornmeal and pan fried in butter (heartattack)the next day but that with the gravy HEAVEN . The wifes creamed onions were superb along with the turnip . Gotta try another way for the leftover mashed turnips maybe lightly fry those I'm going to experiment . We need to start a cooking show on here  ;D ;D ;D ;D

In the production of ethanol there is a mash left over that is sold fresh as livestock feed. I don't know if it has an effect on said livestock, but till they figured it out, to much of it was killing some cattle. I not sure anymore, but it messed with their brain somehow, and you are what you eat. I would perfer not to eat meat that has a buildup of that crap in it.
