Anybody see that Youtube of that guy recently getting back blasted by his 50 cal . I can't figure how to get it on here but its in the ATT-Yahoo news . The guy has a real good guardian angel to be alive . OUCH !!!!!

It was ammo he bought surplus. The others felt off.Not reloaded. Don't fire reloads from "some guy" you met.

Check out how pressure can spike with just a tiny change in seating depth.-- Going over shot gun data you see that changing just primer brand can push pressure up or down. Same hull, charge,wad, payload. Even if you are not going from standard 209 to a magnum 209. it can change. If you load max or near max this can be a BIG deal. You get lax on checking each charge it makes it worse again. You can get a "prefect storm" thing. Go too low you get a squib. A new shooter won't feel this and keep firing. BOOM. I always load on the mid to lower side and get my Data from the powder maker not some guy with 7 fingers.

Never truer words spoken there Old&Grumpy . I had a bunch of reloads I bought from some guy at a gun show well I was out quick shooting my 44 mag. , Clint Eastward special , to see how fast I could unload them and by the grace of GOD Himself I didn't hear a loud bang after my third shot And how I paused beats me but I held up my next shot instantly . Sure enough the round was only pushed less than halfway down the barrel by the centerfire cap . That was one lucky day , could have been a real medical emergency , but only a pain in the butt getting that slug out of the barrel afterwards .

Myself I'll never trust a screw on cap when it comes to high compression heck if you think about it half the metal has been taken away by threading the cap and the male part also . That guy needs a double lock down system , at least have a system where it blows out sideways or up for those 50's . I really would like to see his face if he goes and shoots that junk again , shooting high velocity , especially being up against your face , takes a certain kind of manly things between your legs . Body shock kept this guy from screaming like heii as an infant till it wore off but by then the meds kicked in . Oh and as this guy did ALWAYS be wearing safety glasses at least without them , this guy would have that cap halfway thru his brain without them .. You guys out there with those cannons and such BEWARE !! Please we need to keep our membership up .

Now the OCD is kicking in

Just finished loading 375 rounds for my kid. Not .50 cal.Case checked for cracks. Powder is checked 3 times. Lee powder measure ,weigh,then look in each with a flash light. So that is good. So I can sleep I need to recheck OAL. That will give me seating depth. It was right but-----

Mark Serbu [the maker] did a post-mortem on the firearm involved. He was very up front about the whole thing, but bottom line it was MASSIVELY over-pressure ammo. He pretty much said that production of that model is terminated unless/until they can come up with an even more secure means of securing the breach cap. [I gave him some well-deserved sh!t for not using a stronger thread form like Acme or buttress threads; a standard 60deg thread form is just not suitable for that type of (ab)use!] The closeups of the remaining unfired SLAP rounds alongside a legitimate one showed they were clearly reloads & not properly crimped govt. issue. Twas a near thing, & goes to show the warning "caveat emptor" is still as valid as it was 2+ millennia ago when it was new!

WOW. He is very lucky to be alive for sure. To think of his father seeing it then having to rush him to the hospital. Can't even imagine that happening to my son.

Looks like someone may have also loaded Pistol powder into a rifle case. Wrong powder, wrong pressure curve and BOOM.

Think I'd just shoot Rimfire after that one!

Of course a smart person would have stopped and said WTF and double checked the ammo before firing a second one off.

Scott "Put yer thumb in it" from over on the Kentucky Ballistics channel on YT is both lucky and smart. Luck favors the prepared: I'm certain if he wasn't in such good shape and didn't have any 1st aid training he'd be pushing daisies right now. Nice guy, fun channel if a bit whimsical for my tastes [I'm not fond of eggplant either, but I'm not going on a pogrom for them like he does...]
