Pistol's Warranty

Just out of pure curiosity, what firearm companies cover normal wear and tear as part of their warranties; for example, a cracked frame or slide that's been completely worn out from shooting 300k rounds, or something like that? I'm curious to know specifically NAA, Glock, Ruger, Sig, Kahr, and Smith and Wesson. Although Taurus, Beretta, and CZ would also be good to know. Ive heard completely mixed things so if anyone has any personal experience that would be great.

Don't know about that but will give a shout out to some good ones. Pietta. Was looking for a hard to find part. No luck in US. I decided to email home office in Italy. (yes they read English!) 6 weeks later a envelope with Italian postage is in my box. No charge!. ---- Williams Fire Sights. Light pipe broke on a front sight. Called them. They sent a pack of 3 pipes. Enough to redo 8? sights! I payed postage.   ---What do they get for this?   This post. Free advertising.

 Pretty simple call these outfits and ask . Just like that . ;) ;)

I doubt many will do much about a worn out gun, but you never know.

We know how NAA has pulled some nice surprises for people.

Ruger has on occasion rebuilt, even refinished old Mark pistols, no charge, that were sent in for just a repair. What I understand now, they don't have the parts to do that anymore.

I have a "project" Mark IV .22/45 in process right now I need for building Chest Holsters. I "acquired" 3 new "take off" Barrels and various parts through the gun world grape vine/trade.  I took a box of parts to my gunsmith to assemble.

That also brought me a grip assembly that was missing pieces that only Ruger could install so the gunsmith sent it to Ruger

Ruger installed the missing parts and assembled the gun except for one part that the gunsmith ordered. Ruger did not charge for the parts, assembly or shipping back. And, it was back in under 2 weeks!

So... Ruger gets an A++ for customer service!

One issue with Ruger is parts. You used to be able to get any part that didn't require fitting. Then the lists started shrinking. Last I looked the LCR is the worst, only grips and grip screws, nothing else. Back when I had two LCRs, I had a small ziplock of over a dozen LCR parts. Couldn't do that now. I'd guess the legal department is behind it.
I'm glad I built a good stash of Bearcat and SP101 parts before that happened. . :)

Easiest to talk about personal experiences...we sent a Rossi back to them on their dime, had the rifle properly repaired and back to us within 3 weeks...Heritage had parts to us in a couple weeks, once we figured out who to contact...everyone else is word of mouth, but Hi Point and NAA get good reviews...other companies right behind them, but there are a few that are cursed, including Heritage, Taurus, Ruger and on and on...this is a very subjective topic, note one's pleasure another's poison...the real problem is trying to fix a gun when the company now defunct, Ithaca, for example...

Or an Eastern European gun maker whose pistol was imported here by the thousands, but no parts. I've collected a good stash of most Zastava parts that are likely to ever be needed, with sheer luck, daily search, and too many $$$.
Seems a (very) few people may have bought one just to part out online. Yet there are still 2 less important parts I haven't found, and I've only seen one frame (which I don't want).

Try to find ANY part for the early model Ruger Mini-14.

Phoenix Arms has the best policy AFAIK... a fellow had a bum pistol/slide languish in a drawer for almost 20 years... called 'em, sent it in, and got a new one back...

I've been working part-time for two years in an old established family-run gunshop, started in 1955; Colt will not honor the warranty for any guns five years or older or sell parts for the same. We had a customer order a new stainless Colt Detective Special a year ago. It was shipped covered in advertising and warning stickers. The customer discovered a thumbnail deep scratch-gouge under a sticker. Colt jerked us around for two months before agreeing to fix it. We had a customer with a ten-year-old Beretta Tomcat 32 acp; this said Beretta customer is more than an acquaintance. He is an ardent Trap shooter. He carried the Tom Cat more than he shot it, two mags a year. While cleaning, it discovered a crack in the frame. Beretta refused to accept when we shipped to him. Glock is good; we have sent one Glock back for repairs. Smith and Wesson and Ruger are excellent customer service. Kahr and Kimber have spotty customer service. Charter Arms is outstanding customer service. Henry has very good customer service. Sig Sauer is very good. Rossi offers a one-year warranty. Bond Arms is excellent. Mossberg is outstanding. Springfield Armory has great customer Service.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it! Yeah, Beretta and CZ have outright told me they don't warrant anything past 3 and 5 years respectively. I didn't know Colt was a hassle to deal with though. You mention that Kahr's customer service is spotty, do they refuse to fix their guns?
If you shoot a Glock to its end of life and crack the frame, slide, ect from the mere round count, say 300k, I know Glock sends you a new one under warranty even if it was just its end of life and not a manufacturing defect. Any of the other companies do this? I've heard it both ways regarding Springfield and S&W, but I'm interested in Sig in particular.

One of the moderators of another forum lives a five minute drive from Sig in New Hampshire. He rates them very well, but I think that's mostly parts and accessory sales. He owns several, and hasn't had any issues with them.

I had a Kahr PM9 with extractor problems-it broke. I sent it in and they claim I was shooting reloads. I wasn't. I was using Winchester white box. We went back and forth and talked to different people at different times. They agreed to fix it. Just once if I paid for the part-extractor. I gave them a credit card number. They sent the gun back, and it worked flawlessly. I checked my card, no charge. I called them. More back and forth. The final outcome, they charged my card, and I sold it.

Well that's certainly bad CS. What year was this in? I hear they improved their CS dramatically since they acquired a number of ither brands, although I don't personally have any experience with Kahr's CS.

  Isn't there a story about looking a gift horse in the mouth Blue Heron ? Heck I would have waited to see if they would charge the card , sometimes these things fall between the cracks by the personal . Myself I've talked with some other manufacturers over time some say its covered and others say no , depends if its Monday or Friday , ha . Never bring questions about billings that may never come . Good you got rid of that Kahr anyhow . ???

On to Charter Arms. The store had a new in-the-box Charter Arms in 327 Federal for 4 or 5 years that didn't sell. The boss called them up and asked if they could send it back to be rechambered in 38 special. They did better and sent us a new revolver in that caliber, and a return shipping label to return the 327 even-steven.
