What's your take on the M&P 15-22 rifles they have out now?

I've been looking for a replacement for an old family
air-loom semi-auto .22lr Winchester rifle that I have
for some time now.  Originally I was looking at a Ruger
semi-auto with a stainless bull-nose match barrel with
a scope because I heard they were great varmint guns
and the thicker heavier barrel helps minimize recoil
so you don't give yourself a black eye with the scope.

But here recently I've been seeing these newer rifles
emerge that appear to be lighter, more accurate, and
better designed for a multitude of uses and I was wanting
some other people's input on them before I purchase one.

The Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22  .22LR Rifle.

It appears to be a little more utilitarian than my old
small game hunting rifle but I like it's simple yet
functional rugged yet elegant design which can
be outfitted with various capacity magazines and
long or shorter barrel lengths with a variety of
rail mounted options as well.  It seem like a
pretty versatile weapon for use in different
types of hunting and home defense situations.
Short of a double barrel 12 Gage shotgun that is.

That's my take on them, and thinking of getting one.
I would appreciate other people's opinions and input
on these rifles though.  Feel free to let me know what
you think of them.

MDE I imagine these guns to be fun but I just don't find a use for fun guns . With the money things cost myself I buy keepers and bought for its final uses , these are larger caliber weapons of substance which probably leads to me hording ammo so to say , not much random shooting like so many fella's do on here which is great if that's what blows ones dress up . I only shoot to see how well it shoots and set its accuracy for whatever final setup it will be , then off to the safe . I know more info than what your asking but these types of guns are for rich guys that have time to play , myself again I have little of each presently and evermore it seems , shame on me for being a workaholic , I'm cursed and dammed to work till I fall over . What else you want to know ? Ha Ha Ha HA Ha Ha . :)

TO ARMS , TO ARMS the liberal socialists are coming . Load and prime your weapons . Don't shoot till you see their UN patches or the Obama bumper stickers , literally . And shoot any politician that says he wants to help you or us .

If you have to have a rifle that looks nasty then the M15, M4 look-a-likes will probably fill the bill.  If you want a rifle having a higher degree of accuracy and offering reliability and the ability to customize, go with the Ruger.  While the bull barrel is neat looking you will not find a higher degree of practical accuracy and it does add unnecessary weight.  No .22 rifle will recoil enough to have a scope threaten your eyeball.
The Ruger 10-22 would be my choice.

I second the motion , no better rifle for what it is , Ruger 10-22 . It's only fault is not being able to shoot all three lengths of .22's  ;)

My cousin has the M&P, but I've only seen it, not shot it. I have the Colt/Umarex M4, which I like better--at least from what I've seen. My brother has the Mossberg 715T and he doesn't really like it. He shot mine and now wishes he would have bought the one I have.

I will more than likely wind up with
one of each, 10-22 and 15-22.  That
is generally what happens when I
have trouble deciding between
2 things of a similar nature.

This has gotten me in trouble with
the ladies more than a few times.

I recently did some surfing around on
Cabelas.com and learned some interesting
things about these guns.....the 10-22 and
the 15-22, as well as the Colt M4.

All three look like good options for replacing
my old family air-loom .22LR semi-auto. I even
found a Browning .22LR Lever Action brand new
that looked smooth and sweet.  Great, now all
I need is money to get these new toys.  8)

Take a look at the CZ trainer 22. I looked at one at a gun show and they look really nice. Solid, well made and with a good scope accurate.  Quite a few Youtube videos on them. There are still quite a few around. When I picked up the S & W 15-22 at the show there was just way too much plastic for me.

That seems to be the way things are going these days.
With everything not just guns.  Cars and trucks too.
I got an up and personal look at the under pinnings
of a Dodge Viper at a Lincoln Technical School
campus in Indianapolis that my nephew attended
for Diesel Mechanics during their open house.

With the exception of the engine and transmission
I could of swore I was looking at alien technology
leaked into the industrial complex through some
sort of secret government program or something.

Shortly afterward, Chrysler put a recall on all
1st generation Vipers to be reclaimed and
destroyed.....due to a government mandate.

Go figure.....but I saw allot of carbon fiber
composites and what appeared to be high
impact resistant high tech plastics under
the hood of the cars I looked at.

Presumably to lesson the weight of the
vehicle while making it capable of surviving
most auto collisions and accidents on the
road or on most race tracks.

I do think plastics and composites have
a limited use in firearms manufacturing
but they do have potential in crossbows
and archery applications for example.
