My BW is here

I picked up my BW combo Saturday but didn't have a chance to walk down to my range till today.  Here are some observations:

1] I really like the gun and no problems.

2] I was pleased with the performance. The 1st shot was the 1/8oz shot load and at 20' most of the shot was on an 8 1/2 x 11 target.

   3] 7 of the next 9 HCD rounds were inside a 2 1/2" circle at 20'.

4] I used a 6 o'clock hold and it seemed to be pretty much on POA.

5] I had some cheap Remington Thumderbolt 22LR ammo and it would not fit the conversion cylinder. The lead bullet was too large.  I tied some Federal ammo and no problem.

6] I fired 50 rounds of HCD and did not have a miss fire.

The grips felt fine and I am going to wait on ordering Chong grips.  I have ordered one of John's pocket holsters' but will carry just in my pocket till it arrives.

I may have a problem since my wife also like the BW and may  want to replace her 38.

Looks like you will be in the market for another NAA in the near future. Don't feel bad, it happens with everybody. Get one and soon another finds it's way into your collection. Then another and another and another etc...............

My wife liked my BW also, though she still calls it the "widow maker".  She has the Pug and I don't think she knows its name either - but it is always with her, and that's what counts.

Bleak widow, I am fortunate as my wife always has her 38 and is good with it.  She is thinking a Pug or a S/W would be good for when she carries a small pruse or is out in the fields with me and has only shorts or jeans.

After 53 years of putting up with me she can have anything she wants.

When carrying in your pocket without I holster I recommend you carry it hammer down on an empty cylinder rather than in the notches.  The notches are fine but if the cylinder and hammer are not protected it is entirely possible to have the hammer slip from them when carrying in a pocket

Wow I never thought of that.  I assumed when NAA devised their saftey system they would have covered that way of carrying.

With the hammer down on an empty cylinder, it is extremely difficult to make the gun unsafe,  A significant pressure on the hammer is required to put the gun into battery with hammer fully cocked.

But with the hammer in the safety slot, a much lesser pressure is required on the hammer for it to slip out of the slot and rest directly on the rim of a cartridge.

Carried loose in a pocket, the mini is more likely to be subjected to such a pressure when the user sits, bends, etc.  Still, it is not too likely to happen, and you would still need to smack the hammer pretty hard to ignite the primer.

Many here have carried a mini loose in the pocket for decades.  Only a few of us have ever placed the hammer in the safety slot and then found it out of the slot after being carried without a holster.

Bottom line, carrying loose is still a viable method with a very low chance of anything going wrong.  But most agree a soft holster that orients the gun in the pocket and protects the hammer is a good thing to have.

A couple other reasons for a holster - your mini will stay cleaner, pick up fewer scratches, and your ammo will not go stale from perspiration.

Boots,

How old were you when you got married---10?

I agree a holster is better and I have one ordered from John, so the loose in the pocket thing is temporary.
