Carried over from the pocket carry thread

I'm currently in an argument with my little brother about neck carry.  He's a Marine, just like me and my other brother, so we know the four rules like the back of our hands.  He maintains that wearing a neck holster in the vertical position breaks two of the four rules because "you go ahead on and carry a loaded gun pointed at your throat if you want to."  I maintain that if the gun is in the safety notch like it is sposed to be, It's no different than appendix carry or sticking it in your pocket.  Gun is always going to point somewhere.  I did find two holsters that allow the revolver to hang horizontally, although the draw is a little more complicated.

My only concern is wearing 550 cord around my neck.  Thinking dog tag chain might be a better idea.

Thoughts?

I prefer pocket or belt carry in a custom holster for my Pug or BW. However, I have the type of neck holster you describe for my Pug. If it is in the safety notch I am not overly concerned. None of my NAA pistols has ever left the safety notch, but I never carry them w/o some type of holster, I can envision for those that carry them naked in a pocket there may be possibility of it getting out of the slot. I also check them and verify it is in the slot each and every time I put one in my pocket or on my belt. I was raised to respect firearms and it was my responsibility to ensure my weapon is as it should be.
Back to the holster, I added longer paracord and actually prefer to carry it around my neck and left arm not unlike a vertical should rig on my left side. It doesn't tend to flop or swing around as much and doesn't typically come into contact with as much stuff during the day.

Carrying anything around the neck can lead to real problems especially if you have excessive chest hair . Both the wife and me had hair stuck in vital areas of the gun and suggest its not good .  Aside from possibly being shot by your own weapon the ensuing chest hair fire will bring 2nd and 3rd degree burns not alone the pain from the firefighter stomping the flames out . OUCH !!!

Evil---I use the chain on neck carry with horizontal kydex---works great--don't even notice it is there---draw is fine

Dog tags are on break away chains for a reason, as should anything else be that is around your neck. So, use a ball chain and not paracord.

As a Marine as well, I can tell you that you need to respect a weapon, but not be afraid of it. I have no issues with neck carry, shoulder holsters, cocked and locked .45's, cross draw holsters, pocket guns, glovebox guns, etc. etc. etc. Trigger discipline and certain unbreakable habits in regards to ensuring a gun is or is nor loaded will pretty much avoid any ND that I have ever seen.

Guns don't go off by themselves sitting in a holster that protects the parts of the gun that make it go boom. In the minis' case, protect the hammer from coking due to snagging on something. Nor will they go off sitting in a safe, etc. If a mechanical failure happens to occur and by some strange act of fate you blow your nuts off, it is simply your time. The chances are so minute, they are not worth worrying about.

If you carry with regularity, it is inevitable that your muzzle will sweep something that you don't want to shoot. It is just part of the way we are made, the way guns are carried, etc...

I was a member of this forum for years until they switched to new format. I used to post as "canis". So, not a newb, just an forum member that wanted to get back tp participating in the discussion.

No neck carry and no sob carry, imo.

I frequently carry two naa, magnum in right front pocket in holster and lr in left front pocket with a number 8 opinel.

The trick is to keep all the crap out of ur pockets so phone on hip in cell phone holder and keys on carabiner.  Even better would be to get a knife on hip and then both pockets free for naa mini

RevCov

I've tried neck carry a few times and never could warm up to it. First with a Keltec P32 and then a mini Magnum. Just never worked for me. I do have a friend that wore his badge around his neck on a ball chain and had a LR mini in a holster on the back of his ID holder.

Evilwayz, I carry my black widow that way in a lost river neck holster.   Hammer in safety notch, both hammer and trigger encased in kydex, I have no worries about that at all.

I just dipped out to Lost River and those are some nice holsters.  I already bought this from Patton Holsters:

But if I don't like it I might get the mini neck holster they have.  Although the total carry is pretty sweet too.

I have a .22lr mini set up for neck carry. I had NAA install a lanyard stud so I can use a quick-release connector. It points down at about a 45° angle, and hides well under a loose t-shirt.

To all the Marines, and others who have served our Country, THANK YOU!

givenoquarter- Welcome back.

I will carry a neck knife in the cooler weather, but have not gotten around to a mini yet. While I understand the apprehension in neck carry, I do not see it as a problem. I would suggest kydex over leather: it would be a little lighter, protect the gun from perspiration and, if made well, prevent the cylinder from moving. Just a small perk, that would cost nothing extra.
Guns are a lot like parachutes:

I didn't realize that NAA did custom work on revolvers.  I'm surprised they don't offer a lanyard stud as an option, especially since most of these guns are keychain sized or smaller.

I had to send it in to get re-timed, so I had it done while it was there. It was a $12 charge. I think it was worth it.
