My wife did the laundry this morning and asked me if I remembered to take the .22 out if my Levis before throwing them in the hamper.
At first I thought it was a ridiculous question but da*n if it couldn't actually happen if a guy wasn't careful.
In fact I'll bet it has.

EvilWayz

That could end.....poorly.
And Hades followed with him...

Doing so would require new ammo (just to be sure), and possibly replacing grips, but everything else is stainless steel and could survive a thousand wash and dry cycles.  People go swimming with these things.

That would have been different shooting a washing machine from the inside out , you could have been the first ..
TO ARMS , TO ARMS the liberal socialists are coming . Load and prime your weapons . Don't shoot till you see their UN patches or the Obama bumper stickers , literally . And shoot any politician that says he wants to help you or us .

I believe NAA recommends no more than 50 wash and dry cycles per year.

zburkett

I do not believe that is the recommended way to clean a NA.

Suppose your lil' gun did go through the wash or an accidental dunk in the river... What would you do? Compressed air? Leave it in the sun? Spray lube?

You take it apart, clean the parts, lube the parts, and re-assemble.

bill_deshivs

As a rule, you don't take mini revolvers apart. They are too hard to get back together.
Here is what you do: make sure the dirty water is flushed out with clean water. Towel dry.
Then, liberally flush with WD 40. Shake out and dry.
That's all that is necessary. Same with any other firearm.

^^^This^^^ is how it's done.   A soak in Hoppe's #9 would work great too.

Respectfully, a mini revolver is absolutely simple to take apart and re-assemble.
If you have a few screwdrivers, tweezers, gun lube, a functional  eyeball and two hands.. you can do it.
Ten minutes max. Thirty minutes if you've never done it. Forever if you didn't do your homework first and you try to turn the main screw counter clockwise to remove it.

I assure you, if you sent your water logged mini back to NAA, it would be dis-assembled, cleaned, lubed and re-assembled.
And you can bet they don't lube their firearms with WD40.

At one time, I considered changing out the trigger myself - on my 22 Mag Wasp, but was convinced to send it back to NAA and have the pros do it.  I'm quite experienced in intricate small assembly work and have good dexterity and coordination, but I read of too many bad experiences on triggers.  Glad I had NAA do it.   In your case, there's nothing wrong with learning how to do it and having the confidence going forward.

bill_deshivs

Respectfully, I have been a gunsmith for 45 years.
I have taken mini revolvers apart and put them back together. I have also sent them to NAA for reassembly. It's not simple. Most people don't even know which way to turn a screw.
Why don't you post us a video of you reassembling one in 10 minutes?
I'm not saying you can't, but we would sure like to see it!
And, I said nothing about lubing a firearm. I was telling people how to displace water from their guns. Water Displacing formula #40 is designed for just such a task. And, it certainly won't hurt guns.

EvilWayz

Years ago ago I took one of the springs out by accident, and NAA told me unless I had a special jig to put it back in, I was through dealing.  25 dollar lesson learned.  Probably the cheapest gun involved lesson too.
And Hades followed with him...

I'm a tad confused.
There are five springs.
Hand spring, Index spring, Bolt spring Main Spring & Trigger spring.
All will go into place without the need of a jig.

This is likely old news, but there's a video on You Tube showing how to disassemble and re-assemble a mini.
I believe he's a member here and he did a real nice job with the video.

It was '98, no idea which spring it was.  All I knew is I took the thing completely apart and it wouldn't go back together.  Well before youtube.  Hell, the internet was about ten years old.

Most folks are not as great as you and the maker of the video.

I would dry the "wet" mini the same way I dry a blackpowder revolver when I am finished washing it.

Take off the grips.
Shake or blow as much water out of it as you can.
Lay it in a pre-heated oven at about 180 deg 10 - 15 minutes.
A few drops of oil here and there.
Put the grips back on it.

Don't underestimate the ability of  "most folks" my friend.
The only "greatness" requirement is the ability to use a screwdriver and tweezers.
It's simple actually.
If you don't have the confidence and or desire to put an NAA back together then by all means... don't try.

top dog

I am sure that it has happened before. Better in the washer than drier..................

I have taken my 22lr mini in the water in my swimming trunk pocket.  The only thing is to replace the ammo and take the grips off and dry the piece and let it set in the sun.

Then relube and dry off and reload. I use Sentry Solutions products, the same as SEALs

I have been doing it for years with no ill effects.

Also I made sure that I would wax the grips inside and out.

What Bill said. Keeps it simple.
I use WD-40 to flush some gun actions, followed  by compressed air, and then oil.

Wondering if MBS has actually dis and reassembled a mini?

Guessing these are the referenced YouTube videos:

Good to know. Looks fiddly.

OV-1D

Not that I've taken any apart YET ! But I think the only cold steel is the main spring anyhow . its the only piece that can rust . Like Boone said flush ,blow and dry like Unc_Lee said ..

Well, I clean my black powder guns in the bathtub (don't tell Shewhomustbeobeyed).Of course that's only the barrels & cylinders.

OLD and GRUMPY

I use a flush and flood method on mini. The black powder minis get filthy. After 50 rounds the other day there was no shine left. It looked like it had been coated with something to cut the reflection at night.

When I removed the grips there was a lot of burnt powder grit under them.  It had passed through the bolt and hand slots, through the guts, and into the grip! This meant that the works were full of it also.

To get it clean with out opening it up I first use Break Free Powder Blast. I flood it and let it sit to soften up the crud. Then flush it with the PB through all the holes until it runs clean. Let it dry then flood it with Rem Oil spray working the action to get it into all the spots and pins. At this point it is a mess so I wrap in in a rag and prop it up with the hammer at the low point so the extra oil drains out. Felt like a different gun.
Death before Decaf !!!!!

Magwell

I have 5 freshly washed (Tide Breeze) 22 WMR rounds up for grabs! :)
