So I wondered if anyone can tell me about my pistol?

It is an early one as it does not have the safety notches. It also has the patent number on the frame just in front of the cylinder.

They say I can send it in for a replacement cylinder....not me....I am keeping it just like it is...

ikoiko

Sorry, can't help. Someone here may be able to. Just bumping the thread. Don't know what you want to know about it. NAA can likely help you out.

grayelky

I have one I bought in 1977. The serial number starts with a "B", if that helps.
Guns are a lot like parachutes:

"If you need one and don't have one, you'll probably never need one again"

Bubba has posted on the history of NAA.  If I remember, started as Rocky Mountain Arms, Sold and became NAA Corp in Newbury Park CA, sold and moved as NAA Corp to Provo UT, moved to Spanish Fork UT, sold to Sandy and moved to Provo as NAA INC.  Not sure when the safety notches were added, but while still the Corp, either in Provo or after moving to Spanish Fork.  I have a Provo Corp with no notches, but my Spanish Fork Corp have the notches.

theysayimnotme

It doesn't have the early plastic grips.

waretrop

Thanks guys. I will call Sandy...

If you plan to carry the gun I would send it in for a cylinder with notches. You can still keep the old cylinder so you always have the the original gun. If its going to be a safe queen  I guess you don't need safety  ::)

waretrop

I am not going to carry it. It has a perminent home in my safe, but I will buy a new barrel for her...neither will be used by me.

May I ask what is wrong with the barrel?

boone123

I think if you send it in for anything they will replace the cylinder, and you will not get the old cylinder back. Check before you do anything.

I have one like that, which I'm also keeping as-is. I was not the original owner, but the insides of mine were a little messed up, so I took it into NAA and they fixed it up, good as new. They said they were going to polish it so it would look new again, but I made sure they didn't remove the patent number. I don't think I got a new cylinder for mine, but it's been so long I don't remember.

Keep it as a collector's piece Is it worth more than others? No, probably not. But it's cool to have a variant. I don't know the exact history of this model.

waretrop

You are right about that boone123 They don't want then out there for safety reasons. That's why I will just buy a new cylinder to keep with it.

Lemon. At the beginning the cylinders did not have the safety notches for the hammer to test in. It just would sit on the shell on the cylinder. Not too safe.

You can just put the hammer down between the case heads.

waretrop I think Lemon was asking what was wrong with the barrel not the cylinder.
I recently bought one similar to yours at a gun show. I was getting some estimates of around 1978-79 on manufacture dates. I won't be shooting mine either as I bought it just to add to my collection. I also won't be sending it in because I want to keep it original.

waretrop

Thank you Joe....

I will look into all my avenues....

Very nice....
Thanks. It came with the plastics grips but they were in pretty bad shape. I found these to hold me over til I find another set in decent shape.
