Picked up a Glock 23

I have been saying for awhile that my 642 was "niched out".  My local dealer had a like new G23 on the shelf for a good price, and gave me a good price on the 642 on trade (which I think he was selling before I left).

Glocks... I owned a G26? (the baby one) and found myself adding a finger extension to it.  So it went away and I have been without (except my wifes G17C) for a bit.

To me a Glock represents everything wrong with modern firearms.  There is no refinement to them... just none.

They also represent everything right in modern firearms.  Rugged, stupidly reliable, and accurate enough for the task at hand.  Interestingly I shoot Glocks better than anything else I have tried point shooting, I don't know why.

I'm not sure if I really like it or really hate it, but it does the task profoundly well (yes, this can be said for any number of guns in the same size and range for a lot of other manufacturers)

I hear you.   Dyed in the wool revolver fan but after I shot a friends 23 I had to have one. Never a problem with it and shoots where I point it.  It feels good in the hand and the caliber is a good stopper.

Never thought I'd hear myself say I really like a "plastic" gun but I adore my glock 23.  Only thing I did to is was add an aftermarket barrel so there would be no problem with shooting reloaded ammo in it.

Hmm, a conversion barrel and some G19 magazines (and G17s will work and just extend) away from being able to shoot 9MM out of it.  Neat

You might as well add a G32 barrel, and shoot .357 Sig. All you need is the barrel and ammo.

I only recall shooting a glock once or twice. First time was a .40 subcompact. Ugly square box of a gun but was surprisingly comfortable to shoot and very accurate.

I would get a 17 or 19 if I had the money to burn, but probably wouldn't carry it due to the light trigger.

I just look at the Glocks as really well made TOOLS.

For "looks", I think the Kahr CW9 stainless surpasses the Glock. It's a lot thinner too, but only holds 7 rounds.

Get what is referred to as the "New York trigger". It is about 8 pound pull. You will be able to shoot much better with the standard 5 pound trigger, though.

I have shot a friends G19, one mag through it. They function so smooth, and they are not too bad to shoot. I still prefer the 1911 grip angle, but, the Glock was not as bad as I anticipated. Still off for me, but not bad. Good range gun, but nothing I would carry or compete in speed shooting with (still not 100% natural aim like my 1911 is). Accuracy was good I guess, I was shootin pretty quick and kept them in an 8" circle at 15 yards. I like the trigger on my 1911 more, too.

For looks, gimme a 1911 :D (sorry, I just love 1911's!) For carry, DAO semi auto or any exposed hammer revolver, or my Mini magnum!

I carried a glock 23 on duty for years. It has been carried in holsters, out of holsters, left dirty, left clean, original magazines always loaded to the top with different types of ammo and never, NEVER failed in any manner.

Also the finish looks as good as it did when new. I cannot say that about other pistols I have had in the past.

The Glock is retired now and stays for home defense. I added some white to the lettering (looks good) and usually leave a light on it.

   They make a good pistol.

Congrats on the new addition. I have a G23 and like it much better now that I've figured out the trigger. The great thing about the G23 is that you can also purchase a 9mm & .357 sig barrell and shoot those calibers as well. It's a very versitile gun.

I think it is likely my bedside gun.  I tried it out in a paddle holster yesterday and concealability was lacking... A LOT.  I might toy around with it more IWB or something

Yea Lohman I'm with you.  The Glocks are nice guns but I don't like plastic pistols.  I also do find the frames to big to be comfortably concealed.  But then I gauge that level of comfort by a Guardian .380 in an IWB.  I dunno just not for me I guess shot a bunch of them a couple of weeks ago when I was back home and compared to my 4014 the recoil on the Glock 17? I think it was in 9mm was atrocious..

When I bought my Mini I registered on the forums. then promptly lost the slip with my password.  I started a second log-on but would like to have my original as that is what I used to register my weapon

So what did you come up with?  Inquiring minds want to know.

I carried a Glock 22 as an armed guard for almost 4 years, left that job in 2007....I had been indifferent to .40 for years and finally over this past few months I broke down and jumped on a good deal for a like new Ruger P94 .40 and a CZ75 .40.

It's a good round and its probably a good idea to own at least one solid .40, in some cases ammo is cheaper than 9mm.

.40 has become THE law enforcement round and ammo makers are cranking it out.
The ammo shelves at my Wal Mart were bare except for some Tula .40, its pretty rare I can't find some kind of ammo in .40.

A Glock is just a bullet shooting device for me, I had a Glock 17 and I held it in about the same regard as a staple gun. Just a tool. I traded it for a Ruger Speed Six .357 and never looked back.

Wow, this is an old thread.

I was wavering for a few months between a Glock 22 and a Glock 23. I ended up getting a Beretta Cougar 8040 instead.

Can't believe a three year old thread was resurrected.  Nothing current worthwhile discussing?

It seems to be a G50AE specialty, he's the Lazarus Man.

But even after all the time that has elapsed, I still feel sorry for the OP - he picked up a Glock - probably one someone else had thrown out embarrassed by it's appearance   :)

I just can't believe that a thread titled "Just picked up a Glock" is in the NAA Product section??? Why not "Other Firearms" section???

I'm not a fan of moving this and moving that but it truly funny that this one has had 195 views and 22 post . And still going strong.

He's the one that got me on the NAA watch list.

So is G50AE a forum moderator or administrator of some sort?

That did not answer my question.

Why not ask g50? He is your friend.

You are probably right, not a glock thread. but most don't seem to care. All the bouncing around seem to keep this forum jumping.
I belong to another forum that keeps things stright and narrow, and its very boring. Sometimes I don't look at it for a week. Its small and its going to stay small. Since I joined it a long time ago, I have 5 posts. Its like a private meeting, subdued. Same old thing, no new life.

Well it's just me but I don't go to the Ford dealership to ask questions about my Toyota. Especially if the Toyota dealership is right next door. I guess if you guys like it that way then that's the way it should be. Sorry for bringing it up, I always have the option to open a thread or not.

All this time I thought you came here because you were ran off all the other forums. Had no idea you were a forum virgin.

YEP that's me an adult virgin , good analogy . Before I joined this fine establishment I hated computers except for buying stuff , never in my wildest dreams would I've thought of relating to anybody because I hate everyone and everything made within the 19-20-21 st. centuries until proven righteous in one form or another . HoHoHo TRUE . :) :)

This thread probably should have been posted in the Other Guns (Non-NAA) category, but let's not get too picky.
