Although, there is a  posting with an article showing one manufacturer lr ammo excelling for self defense.  I can't find it right now but, an interesting study.

Maybe Bill Meek has it handy?

Not sure of which article you're referring to Rick.  I've read so much in the last few months, it all starts to run together.  Maybe this one?

I won't carry a laser device... unless it has stun, kill, and disintegrate settings.

Those are some sweet looking grips Billmeek . ;)

Thanks OV-1D.  I don't normally go for "pretty" when it comes to firearms, but I saw them and immediately wanted them.  As I've said before, "Y'all are a bad influence!"

Shooting the Bull recommended the CCI  Swamp version for it's penetration in the 22lr 1 1/8".

I just called Rick on another issue and he mentioned the 22LR he was thinking about is an Aguila.  Given that, he was remembering of one of my posts here (on the NAA forums) of ballistics data on 22LR vs Mag where I found the Aguila Interceptor 22LR to be slightly faster than the 22 Mag Speer Gold Dot - Short Barrel ammo:

http://naaminis.com/smf/index.php?topic=17318.msg165900#msg165900

If I was going to carry 22LR for self defense, I'd definitely look hard at the Aguila Interceptors.

That is hot for 40 grain. Wish I looked first . Just received 40 grain mini mags.

billmeek

If you are anything like me, you'll use up the mini-mags pretty quickly in practice.  It might not hurt to grab a box or 2 of the Aguila Interceptors to test before you buy in bulk.  Before selecting any ammo as a self-defense round I'd want to test it in my chosen firearm for reliability and consistency.

Any worry about using what is basically a +P in the minies?

billmeek

I wouldn't think so since they handle the 22 mag rounds that are close to the Aguila Interceptors with no problem.  If concerned, you can always contact NAA to verify.

I don't know if it includes both the walnut and the locking safe boxes.  Looking at the UPC online, none of the listings that I looked at specify.  The only thing is I saw one site (https://www.wholesalehunter.com/Product/Details/11141606) that showed both in their images.

RTry the website it appears that the walnut case is instead of the steel box. It also says High polish so no, not bead finish//

I want to apologize for the huge amount of questions I have been heaping on y'all. I just have one more if that is ok. Could anyone post a picture of any of the different models I am considering (black widow, 1 1/8" standard, 1 5/8" standard) with a J frame? A 442PC is my edc. If the black widow is even remotely close to the same size it is not worth getting to me and I would get probably the 1 1/8" standard. I will likely put smaller grips on the black widow if that is what I get. Also, a picture comparing the black widow and standard would be helpful. I am sorry again for the volume of requests!

Canoeal

Not a true J-frame but the size is the same. My BW and my Charter arms Target Pathfinder, I know this is the 4" barrel version...

Are Stingers a good choice or are they over the hill?

I went the opposite way and put Black Widow sized grips on my Pug.

As for the CCI Stingers, they are a 32 grain bullet.  I'd rather have a 40 grain.  If you look at the link I posted earlier in this thread, the ballistic data also included Stingers.

Yeah, forgot they are 32 gr. I did look at your chart. Interceptors look pretty impressive.

billmeek

I wasn't really prepared to share it as I'm nowhere near done testing, but I went ahead and posted this for your (long term) consideration:

Welcome jdiddy,
I suggest that you buy them in pairs.
That way one don't get lonely.
When it comes to which one to get, that is totally up to you.
I carry two Black Widows and a Pug.
I feel protected.

All three at once or in rotation?

In the summer - 2.
In the winter - 3.
Never, never less than 2.

A BW in my old man "relaxed fit" jeans pocket is a whole lot less noticeable than my J Frame is.

LCP was my EDC until hip pain . Now the 22lr is there more than not.

My friends and I have Bar-B-Ques about once a month. We always show off our latest guns & gear.  I use new holsters and will carry 6 or 7 Mini's!

Myself,  I always carry at least 2 and sometimes 3,  I rotate my 10 NAA's.  In the winter I add my 9mm S&W Shield.

My shop is in an industrial area near a small airport. When I leave late it's dark out and no one is around except those that have bad intentions.

I have had people rattle the front door trying to get in at 11:00pm  They left when they saw an AR-15 pointed at them through the door glass  :)

When leaving the shop in the dark, I'm always careful and armed to the max  :)

Well I did it! Ordered a standard 22 mag 1 1/8 barrel (with LR cylinder) from gunsmidwest. Now the waiting game begins! Thanks everyone for your input!

Dollar for dollar, a wise choice.

I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Pics when you get your mits on it. Which one are you gonna buy next ;)

welcome, jdiddy... i started out with the 22LR/22mag combo mini as you will, but found that i'm most happy with my Sidewinder and Ranger II in .22mag... to each his own, and i'm sure you'll have fun on your new journey into the world of North American Arms...

you'll probably change out the grips at the very first... i'd go with a RevisonCV grip:

but you'll figure everything out, i'm sure

Yeah Bill, true but they do seem to find ways to eat what is in my wallet easily. 8)

No they are just rounded over CA compact grips. I have changed them out for my own made Walnut grips 2.0...
