send a picture of them

MR_22

I do like .22's. It's my favorite caliber. Probably half of my total collection of firearms are .22's--and that's not a small number.

BTW, my avatar is a photo of the model number on one of my .22 handguns. That's where I got my board ID. The M stands for Model, the R is for Revolver, and the 22 is he caliber. I'll give a quarter to anybody who can name the make. :)

That would be a Matra-Manurhin MR-22.  There are some nice photos here: http://smith-wessonforum.com/lounge/237065-unamerican-handguns-mr-22-match-matra-manurhin.html

You can keep the quarter.  It was fun looking it up.   ;)

By the way, that is a very sharp looking revolver.  How does it shoot?

Look at my avatar. That is an actual photo of the model number on the side of the gun. Doesn't match the above gun. Good guess, tho! ;)

Excel Arms MR 22?

Wow, I didn't realize there are so many models named MR22. Nope, that's not it.

Here's a clue: it's a 10-shot revolver.

Which S&W? I've had two of the 22A's and really like them, but I've sold them both. I need to get another one.

Doc Nonverbal

The scalloping around the name is throwing me.  My guess is that it's a Leinad pepperbox, though I've never seen one that color - your avatar looks stainless.

SIngle ten? ???

I really want a Single Ten. I have a 9.5-inch Single Six with both cylinders and it's pretty awesome, but I need the 10-shot. Can't be that one, tho, because the model I'm talking about is MR22.

Doc Nonverbal

How about instead of the quarter that you treat us so some photos of your Leinad?   ;)

yes its a22a. s@w is a good company. they back there guns. it has broke they just ship the parts no charge. there question when I call would you like us to ship the parts.i bought it when they first came out.

MR_22

I love the 22A. I had a two-tone one, which my brother adopted, and a Talo special edition, which I really love, but the wooden grip was too big for my hand, so I sold it. Sweet gun, tho. I saved 3 mags back when I sold off my others, so I can get another one.

Doc Nonverbal

I'm partial to the S&W Model 41.  I bought mine years ago when I was single and had spending money.  I have it topped with an Aimpoint 3000 that my gunsmith (the late great George Madore) mounted directly onto the barrel (rather than using a Weaver rail).  It's so low that I can't fit lens covers on it.  He had to mill off the front sight, as it was in the way.

George told me a story about having my pistol set up to remove the front sight and having a customer watch him.  The customer wanted to know what he was doing and he replied that he was lowering the front sight because the owner of the pistol was shooting too low with it.  He then proceeded to take the sight completely off down flush to the barrel.  The customer was startled and said "How low is he shooting??!?!" to which George deadpanned "Right into the dirt."

It is the most accurate pistol I own and an absolute pleasure to shoot.  It's also a great memory of a wonderful guy.

I always liked the 41 back years ago I hand one in hand @ a browing bought browing I did wrong

MR_22

I've always wanted a 41 myself, but never had the opportunity to get one.

Doc Nonverbal

I don't know this to be a fact, but I've been told that the newer Model 41's aren't as well-made as their older counterparts.  I bought mine new in 1999 and I wasn't impressed with the trigger, so I took it to my gunsmith to fix it.  After he repaired it, he told me "it never should have left the factory like this."

I'm not sure what to consider the best production years of the Model 41.  My hunch is the older, the better.

I had a conversation with another gunsmith years ago about the S&W Model 17.  He was planning to buy a new one and I suggested that he pick up an older model K-22 from the 50's instead.  He countered that the metallurgy would be better on the newer models and would expect that using modern CNC machinery that the parts would be more precisely made.

A few months later he said that he had the chance to inspect both closely in his shop and came to the conclusion that there wasn't any comparison whatsoever: The older K-22 was the vastly superior firearm.  He ended up buying one made in 1951.

Interesting. Well, I'm seriously considering getting a new S&W SW22 with threaded barrel.

ray

they saY THAT NEW ONE IS NICE.

Doc Nonverbal

For a current production handgun, I'm partial to Rugers.  They just came out with a threaded Mark III.  I sure wish they'd bring back the Mark II though.

I have a Ruger Mark II on order with a integral suppressor. The ATF is being a bit slow right now with approvals, but I'm expecting to love it. I'll probably be able to take possession of it sometime between August and November. In the meantime, I've been looking at the threaded Mark III's to use my existing .22LR suppressor. I keep eyeballing them at my local gun dealer. I'll probably get one eventually.

I have a Mark 1 made in the 40s. It is an amazing gun. Never a missfire or jam. Truly an awesome firearm....

RogueTS1

Yes the Mark I is an amazing gun. Add to it a threaded and chamfered barrel from Pac Lite and you have a great silenced weapon.

Hey Doc, I haven't had time to get some photos of my Leinad MR22 yet, but I found a video on YouTube featuring one. The one shown at the link below is a .22-Magnum pepperbox, whereas mine is .22LR, but otherwise, mine is identical. It's a bizarre gun to shoot, but it utterly reliable and indestructible.

I've also added a frame grab from the review video. Check out the model name. :)
