Any thoughts from any of you on the Zip .22 from USFA they just announced?

You can always try GunBroker.

I have a search set up there and on AuctionArms and on Guns America.

There are some on GunBroker this morning.
I got an e-mail from my search.
Starting at $180.00.
I will see how high they go.

Right now I am bidding on a couple of other things.
Holding my breath. Heart beating fast. Coming down to the wire.
My want for these are greater than the want for the Zip.
The Zip will be around for a few more months at least.

I don't see any on GunBroker. You're talking about the USFA ZIp .22, right?

cedarview kid

I did find this, though:

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=326457186

USFA 12/22 .22LR 12-shot revolver. I have one of these new and unfired. What are they, crazy? $2000? Is that for real?

Thats enough money to buy 4 Bearcats, if you buy then in the bulk...

Dar:

That gun had an original list of almost 1k I think, even though they were going for 700-800 if you shopped around.  Now, you add that USFA appears to be out of the revolver business, and you have instant collector items.  There MAY not even be as many of those 12 shot 22 single actions as there were NAA breaktops.

Collector,
It looks like you used a small L when you spelled zip.

Try this for the Zip:

I paid $750 for my USFA 12/22. I think the dealer was disappointed to sell it to me, because he liked it so much, but couldn't afford to keep all the guns he liked. Sounds like me.

It's an awesome gun. I get it out and fondle it occasionally, but I have not dared shoot it. The deep bluing is nothing like I haver ever seen. Beautiful.

Thanks for the zip link. I'll check it out. I didn't think the GunBroker search was case senstive.

louiethelump

You used a small L instead of an I and you were not aware it was CASE sensitive????????

Oh, I see what you're saying. I thought you said lower-case Z. I didn't read what you said very closely.

But no, in my above post that is a capital i, not a lower l. To confirm that, I cut and pasted from my above post into Word and changed to a different font and it is indeed a capital I. (So it was capital z, capital i, lower p). And besides, that was just typing here on the board, as I didn't cut and paste for my Zip search on GunBroker. So, I'm still not sure what was going on.

And besides that, I searched for just "USFA" and didn't include the search word "zip" and still didn't find it.

Thanks for the link, tho. I'll check that out.

EDIT: I also see why I didn't find any Zips. I used "USFA zip" and these auctions did not have the right match for USFA.

I'd like to see how this thing operates after laying in the summer afternoon sun for a while . Government money is just too easy to come by even in development . Haven't seen anything yet made of plastics thats lasting but thats prefect for government money contracts . Wonder if it has a carbon fiber barrel also . Anyone know of its material make up ? Is it made of glorified garbage bags or what ?

YEA, like those Glocks, right?  Lay them in the sun and they melt.............

Never catch on, just a passing fad, right?  Who wants a plastic gun?

I try to buy everything that will last as long as the pyrimids if not longer and still work . Money is too hard to come by for just a whim and junk .

I just want one because it looks different.
If it looked like a Glock, I'd pass. I don't think THAT fad will last either.  ;D

I plan to buy and try the first Zip I can get my hands on at retail or below, but will not pay a gouge price for it to be first on my block.  (don't actually have a block for those looking for something to argue with me about; it was just a figure of speech)  To me anyway, there is a difference in having a gun you are going to use to defend yourself with made of plastic, and one that is basically a toy or an outdoor tool much like a fishing rod that you go out and "play" with being made of plastic.

As far as fads go, if the Glock fad is not going to last then I have to say the internet is just a fad and it won't last either.   LOL!

I just bought one!  ;D

A little more than MSRP, but not too bad: $300. Better that what most of 'em are going for right now. I'll post info when I get it, which will probably be a week or so.

Do you guys know what a "zip gun" really is? It's a homemade improvised gun that often does not even generally look like a firearm. They typically shoot one round and are often just a barrel with a means to ignite the round. Sometimes they don't even have a barrel.

Does that definition have anything to do with the USFA Zip gun, do you think? Maybe because it doesn't even look like a firearm? I wonder.

OV-1D

I don't know there naa_collector hope you don't end up having to take a hammer to yours after awhile to get it going . Again that plastic thing just doesn't seem like a keeper . Best of luck though .

LOL, if it's anything like my plastic Intratec Tec-22, which takes the same Ruger magazines, I'm going to LOVE IT! ;)

Maybe I'll mount it on my Kel-Tec PLR-22. I dunno why that sounds cool, but it does. ;)

OV-1D

Naa_collector : you have those 100 round teardrop looking mags. for your ruger , if so I have more super-glue holding these together than plastic . Turned out to be real junk without the metal feed ramps .

I do have one of the drums. Can't recall if it's 50 or 100 rounds. Didn't work in my Ruger 10/22 and didn't bother giving it any attention. They're freakin' selling for $100 - $150 on GunBroker now, yikes!

Uncle_Lee

I had 3 of the wind-up tear drop magazines. They were 50 round. Two of them worked without a hitch. The other one wouldn't feed 5 in a row.

Maybe I can get the drum to work on my Zip.

There are tons more Zip guns listed today, including this one for $359 Buy-it-Now:

8 listed with this search:

Cool review here:

http://www.petersenshunting.com/2013/01/11/exclusive-usfa-zip-22-review/

I  like that you can recock the striker with the protruding "button" on the front left side, without having to eject the misfired round. Cool.

Looks like the above search that yielded 8 results is now down to 6. The two with active Buy-it-Now are gone. This thing's going fast. I wonder if the dealer who sold mine is regretting listing it so low. I'm not. ;)

Did someone here buy the one for $349? It's gone now. Lasted for 3.5 hours. These things are hot.

The main reason I would buy this piece is one he's seems to be a great guy and two to help support the mentality behind making this piece thats so lacking in this country anymore . God bless the go getters out there for giving us hope that the gene pools aren't compleatly dead ended .  Anybody know about the warranty thats given .

Wow, thanks for the video. Built-in trigger lock and decocker. Sweet!

I think I'd get the rail to mount a Red Dot. I'd love the SBR rail, too, but what a pain that you have to register it for $200! Bogus.

cedarview kid

I have an SBR question for you guys. I've never had one of these--or any other device that requires the $200 tax.

If you purchase the rifle stock for the Zip and install it, you have to register the firearm combo as a short-barreled rifle. Does that mean you have to KEEP it as a rifle from then on, or you can you remove the stock and then use it as a pistol again? Or does it stay registered as a rifle only?

This gun does look pretty cool as a rifle:

generally, you can do whatever you want with your NFA items (Full Auto, SBR, SBS, etc) so you could use it with or without the stock as you wish..

however most people will recommend to store (long term) and transfer (sell) the items as they are on the tax stamp (as they were registered) just in case anyone has reason to inspect them

Sold my USFA 12/22 today. Sad. But I got twice what I paid for it. So how could I not? Especially since I don't dare shoot it now that it's such of a rare firearm, apparently. (Sounds like the story of my Rangers, eh?)

The 12/22 is still in my position, but it's been promised and the sale is pending. I could still back out, but I won't. Another unfired firearm I bought to shoot, but never did.
