Other Guns (Non-NAA) / Re: Glock 42 Owners

I love my G42, but I would never consider a trigger block. You might want to consider something like this:

TallDog,
Glad to see you got the wife into the act.

To repeat the above, the only way to remove the cylinder is with the hammer in the half cock notch.  The factory recommend no other way.

There is quite a bit of stuff online about rolling the cylinder in, and in fact, Hickok45 has a YouTube video of his 20 year old mini revolver, and that's how he does it (actually, his just goes right in without rolling), apparently without any undue wear. I'm going to call NAA on Monday to get their perspective. I would appreciate if someone could explain exactly what stress or wear is being caused by this method. When I do it with mine, it slides right in like a hot knife through butter, and I'm not feeling any stress or pressure.

In any event, there's no way I'm letting my 105lb girly-girl wife drop the hammer anywhere except at the range with the gun pointed safely downrange. That just strikes me as an accident waiting to happen.

TallDog,
See?  Didn't I tell you they would "multiply"??

Glad to see that all is working out well.

Let us know how the wife does on the range.

She's already cleaned it, and now I have her practicing removing and reinserting the cylinder. I'm not comfortable with inserting the cylinder with the hammer half cocked, then having to pull the trigger while dropping the hammer. The way I do it is to insert the cylinder with the hammer down with a safety notch lined up with the hammer, then put a smidge of pressure on the hammer while rolling the cylinder in, then insert the pin. It works very well and seems much safer to me, but for a girly-girl like my wife, it takes practice and repetition. She's getting pretty good, but there won't be any live ammo in that gun until it's second nature.

NAA Products / NAAs starting to multiply

I bought my first ever NAA, a Black Widow conversion, last month. During my first range trip, my wife shot a few cylinders and really liked it, and I'm thinking hmmm... She (sometimes) purse carries a Ruger LCRx 3" .22WMR, but I wish she'd carry more often.

Anyway, last week I had to be out while we had strangers coming to the house to pick up some junk furniture and I was uncomfortable about leaving her alone. I didn't want her trying to hide that Ruger on her body because she's small and she's not used to carrying like that. Since I was carrying my G26 I gave her the BW in the little NAA leather holster, and she stuck it inside her waistband and said "Wow, this is really comfortable."

So I'm out going about my business and I get a text, " Those guys have come and gone. BTW, thanks for my new carry gun."

Ruh roh!

I asked her if she would actually carry a BW regularly and she said she would, so today we came home from our LGS with a second BW conversion. She needs to clean it and practice loading/unloading it under my supervision, then we'll head out to the range.

Ahh...good times, good times.

I'd be interested to know what the recoil is like.

I'd like to see something like that.

I'd rather have a Guardian in .22WMR.

NAA Products / Re: Lead or no lead

I know that Glock recommends not using lead bullets in their pistols. I think it has to do with the type of rifling, though. You should call NAA and ask.

NAA Products / Re: Ranger II or sidewinder
September-18-18 08:09
When I became an NAA owner less than 2 weeks ago, my choice was between the Sidewinder (swing-out cylinder) and the Black Widow (sights). The Ranger II is only a rumor around these parts. When I called my LGS, I was shocked to find out that they had the Sidewinder because that's been hard to find around here too, and I thought the decision was a no brainer. However, when I got to evaluate them side by side, I ended up going with the Black Widow despite having to remove the cylinder to reload. The reason was the sights (or lack thereof) on the Sidewinder. Even with the hammer cocked, I couldn't see the sight channel. It seemed to me that at anything beyond point and shoot range I would have trouble being accurate with that gun. My Black Widow is quite accurate at 25 feet even with my 65 year old eyes. I'd love to own a Sidewinder, but I'd need to see better sights on it.

I use Hornady Critical Defense .22WMR in my Black Widow because that's what I used in my LCR, and I have a lot. It's a good round.

Oh, and I use Speer Gold Dot 147gr in my Glock 26 and SIG Elite 100gr in my Glock 42.

I ended up calling NAA yesterday. They told me that sometimes the CNC machine gets out of whack. They took the serial number of my BW and said they would match a grip to a BW with a serial number close to mine for fit and send it out. I appreciate the attention, and I know it's already in the mail (we get notifications from USPS), but it makes me wonder about the consistency of their machining processes, for both the grips and the revolver frames.

I bought the oversized rosewood grips for my new BW direct from NAA, and they came in today. There are 3 holes (beside the one for the screw) in the grips, but only 2 pins. I assume the pins are for the two holes at the bottom of the grips, since the top hole is interfered with by the bolt spring. But when I put it together, the grips are loose. Am I missing something? Do the regular magnum grips not fit the Black Widow?

So I got to the range today, and considering that I've never shot anything close to this small, I was pleased with the results. My wife also shot a cylinder of each caliber, and now she wants one.

Anyway, here are some pics in multiple posts. I hope they come out in the correct order.

Pic 1 is the BW sitting in the range bay with today's ammunition; 36gr CCI Mini Mags, 40gr CCI Maxi Mags, and Hornady Critical Defense.

Pic 2 is my first cylinder of Maxi Mags at 15 feet. There are only 4 holes in the target because I just wasn't prepared for my first live trigger pull with this gun. The hole ended up in pic 4. The other 4 were OK.

Pic 3 is 40 rounds of Maxi Mags at 25 feet.

Pic 4 is 20 rounds of Critical Defense at 15 feet. An inch or two below the target, you can see the stray round from my first cylinder.

Pic 5 is 45 rounds of Mini Mags at 25 feet.

I was carrying my G26 today and brought along 100 rounds of Speer Lawman figuring I'd want to shoot it, but I was having so much fun with the BW that the Glock never came out. Hopefully as I get some experience with it, I'll tighten up, but definitely a good time today.

I'm having trouble figuring out this forum software, and since my posts won't appear until approved by a moderator, I have no idea whether I'm actually attaching a crappy picture of my cleaned and oiled BW sitting on the kitchen counter, but I hope so.

Anyway, I hope to be getting it to the range tomorrow.

Hello everyone. I'm a Glock guy, but I've been interested in NAAs for quite a while. I've always felt that .22WMR has a place in SD and I had a Ruger LCR in that caliber, but after I picked up a G42 for deep concealment a while back, the LCR no longer had a purpose and turned into a safe queen. I figured this would be a good opportunity to trade it in for something I've wanted for a while and that I can get some use out of. I bought the BW conversion model today, and I'll use the lr cylinder for cheap range practice and the WMR for those times when even the 42 is too big or too heavy or whatever. Anyway, looking forward to getting some good information from the folks on this forum.
