And so many wonder what makes us Gun Nuts.  Going bang is only a small part.  Workmanship, feel, collectability, and working out THE HISTORY of our finds are what really grabs most of us.  Great story Red; THANKS!

There's certainly a lot more appealing to the senses than it going bang, as you rightly point out :)

Well it's wednesday again and I'm in a bit of a time crunch so here's an older pic from a day at the range.

Speaking of break tops, here's my favorite wheel gun. It's in .38 spec and is a very, very accurate shooter. Since it is so heavy, there's almost no recoil.

I love those Schofields, I'm often overcome with an urge to get a nickel plated one they are simply beautiful. So far I've resisted the it, but those pictures have me weakening again, I was only searching Gunbroker looking at them about a week ago - you've started those voices going in my head again :)

I know the voices aren't real - but they have some pretty good ideas!

I love your spur trigger collection! Thought about gathering a few of those - they are just so interesting and historic!

I got those 3 old spur trigger guns from a guy who a friend of mine knew, who was wanting to sell them because he needed some cash. They are all a bit rough, but being from the late 1800's one cannot help but wonder about who bought them new, who's vest pocket or garter they may have resided in, and what they've seen over the years. I bought them from the same guy I got my KILN 9.4 mm Dutch revolver from that I posted last week. With that included I felt I got quite a bit of "history" for the $200 I handed over $100 for the KILN and another $100 for the 3 old mini revolvers.

From top to bottom they are:

Robin Hood Model 8 1/2
Hopkins and Allen Dictator, they were made from 1869-1872
Smith & Wesson 1 1/2 Break top
NAA Break Top/Ranger

Interestingly, while I have been able to find information on the Robin Hood, I can find no reference to the model 8 1/2 anywhere on the internet or from some enquiries I've made, so have to assume its a rare model.

32 H&R Single action Ruger, I put the birdshead grip on it back when I was a smith.

22 LR High Standard stainless Sentinel.  Great shooting little 22 revolver and the speed loader I bought from David, here on the forum, fit it even though it was made for some other revolver.

Is that Sentinel really stainless, or nickel? I think those were aluminum bodies and steel barrels - from the front sight that looks like an R-101 (no spring to the ejector?)...

Warthog

Colt Python, my Dad currently has this one and is keeping it until he passes but it has been and will be mine again one day.  I would rather he keep it since he isn't a very good gun handler and revolvers tend to be safer than pistols for folks like that, otherwise he would use his little Colt Commander 45 acp but he can't hit the broad side of a barn from inside the barn with it. :)

My Ruger 9mm LCR, I carry this little gun a lot and it is one of my favorites.  Much easier and faster to reload with the clips than it would be with a speed loader, even though I am pretty fast with those too.

Honestly, it seemed like stainless and it cleans like stainless.  Spring on the ejector?  It has a return spring so the ejector goes back after ejecting the empties.

IDK for sure though, got it from one of my uncles when he passed on.  I get most of my family's firearms when people pass as most of my family either already has those they want or they don't want a gun around.  The only folks who are semi-gun people are law officers and they are more against "civilian" owners, even though I have told them many times that LEOs are civilians they still think they are somehow better than a regular civilian. ::)

Should say on the right side near the front "R-101" or whatever... up to R-109 I've seen them. The 101 didn't have an ejector return spring, 103-on had a much different front sight. Cool guns!

Thanks Miker, I will check it and let you know.

There are a lot of nice guns in this thread, thanks for starting it!  More revolvers next week, this is all I have pix of for now.

That is one fine looking break top!

I like that anniversary Judge! Even though I have a plain Judge already I almost bought one of the pretty ones but self control got the better of me.

OK, one more, my engraved TALO Ruger SP-101

Miker, it says R-101 on it so thanks for teaching me more about these, I have had it for a few years now but really didn't know much about it.  It really shoots well, I love to take it to the range and spend a day plinking with it.  I have a few other 22 cal revolvers but this one is a favorite.  I was also really close to the uncle who had it before he passed away so it helps me remember him.

Beautiful Python Warty. One of the guns I wish I had but have never been able to procure. Lucky guy you are.

It's wheel gun Wednesday. Whatcha got for me today? Here's my wasp all buckled up and ready to go.

Very Nice

That's beautiful, Joe!  Incredibly cool picture!   8)   I have two of the regular belt buckles, but none of the open design.  If you have one with you wearing it, I'd just be curious to see what that looks like.  I wasn't sure how it would look, all exposed on the belt like that. But even seeing it now, like this ...  Very cool!  And I love the wasp!  :)

Beautiful, BigBird!  I think I may have posted something like this before, but here's one of my largest and smallest together ...
