Canoeal,
You did an excellent job on those grips. The wood on your knife,is it the same??  Looks like it.

hey folks - here's my contribution for Wheelgun Wednesday: my NAA Ranger II... i'm trying to use up the remaining .22wmr (Fiocchi and CCI Swamp People), as i'm now set on American ammo for my little NAA magnums; nothing special today, although i was surprised to hit the paper!

camo

Nice. Wish I could shoot groups like that.

Way to go linux, that one is a keeper.

guess what day it is? that's right, Wheelgun Wednesday, and i had a 'wheelie' good time, too with two of my Ruger rimfires:

bearcatter

I have both of those, except my Bearcat(s) are stainless. Which do you enjoy the most?

I enjoy the Bearcat best, but the SP is a little more accurate....

i like my stainless Shopkeeper - it is the hardest of all my guns (wheel or auto) to shoot accurately - i like that challenge and want to get better at it!

Ok I've let this go by for too many weeks without posting a pic so here's my two LCR's in 38 and 9mm

I ended up selling the 9 and getting a 357 which I carry often.

Can you say Salt an Pepper.

i like the .38SPL LCR... tried a couple variations in a LGS, but for some reason the trigger guard doesn't work for me (schtumpy sausage fingers? LOL!)

nice security-six! have never seen one in the flesh though...

I had one back in the early Eighties. Four inch stainless .357. I liked it better than the SP101. Cost all of $310, new. I don't why I've always remembered the price.

Which cylinder pin type do you like best? Looking at them, I would think the pull and turn would maybe be better, but the push button seems to get more votes here. I haven't quite figured out how the Earl type works, no real description in the manuals.

I don't know about the Earls, but both of these work. The push pin is simple and easier to do than I expected, The BW pin is a very solid lock up, but took getting used to.

Looks good Al. What led you towards the wasp as your next choice?

I wanted the next size down for times when the BW is a little too big, and I wanted something I shouldn't need to mess with beyond grips. I was a little skeptical of that bead sight until I checked it out and could actually see it. I really dislike the look of the half moon sights on the standard magnum. Coming from the perspective of a BW owner, it is indeed a lot smaller than the specs let you know. The round barrel, the sight, and the pin all seem to make it smaller than the dimensions give you alone.
That and now I have a backup should my BW be out for some reason...
Tomorrow I get to take it for a spin...

Cool. Be sure to give us a range report.

Bearcat,
I've used all three of the cylinder pin types.  Both my 1 5/8"" 22mags have the pushbutton lock /ball detent stye and I greatly prefer it with my short stubby fingers. Also I've never had it inadvertently release as I've heard people worry it might. It works great and is easy to release and reinsert.  My 4" Earl has its own style cylinder pin lock that resembles the ram rod on an old black powder revolver. It is easy to release and relock, but occasionally I get a little fumble fingered with getting the flat side of the cylinder pin to slide in along the bottom of the barrel without getting a little sideways and binding. The Minimaster style of pull-and-twist is my least favorite because my fingers do not easily grasp the little piece to pull and twist it. For me it's the most fumbly and awkward.
Of course, ymmv.

JMHO but I own all three types, and I happen to prefer the BW/MM style as the easiest for me to use.   I have trouble with the flat side of the pin on the Earl style, and the push pins don't like be.

Based on the minis that I have I find the pin on the Black Widow the most secure. Having said that I have had no issues with any of the other designs although I think the other designs have the potential for issues over time.

Wumbey Goomba

The Pug, BW, MM to me is the best. Then Earl style, the push pin, and
don't forget my least favorite the Bug Out style. That one seems, dare I say
cheesy to me. Don't be hating if you like this one. JMHO

one of last Super Cats I couldn't be more happy. Someone will probably bust my bubble a say I paid too much. To that I'd say your
just jealous.

whoa! that's a nice deal... BTW, if you send the gun to Ruger, it will upgrade, clean, adjust, and install a transfer bar at no charge...

call Ruger and i'd bet you won't pay a dime for shipping, too!

And Ruger returns the old parts, so you can convert it back to original later on if you want.

Probably sound advice,I think I'stew on it awhile. Not sure if I want to change it.
Danger is my middle name,if I carried it everyday I'd go a head and get it done, for
now I'll keep it transfer barless.Heck John Wayne never had a transfer bar.

Uncle_Lee

Ol John always remembered to have an empty chamber under the hammer.

Ruger will even send you the box to ship it in. I sent 7 in for the upgrade.

man oh man, it's Wednesday again! here's my new little friend i took out for a spin - it ain't easy to shoot, so be kind fellas, i'm still working on finding my grip and choice of cartridge/load for this one:

but i had a good morning... took my nextdoor neighbor, Bob, out to the range across the street... he wanted a .38SPL revolver to target shoot, so i found him one... i said to him:

"Bob, you're 82, but I could only find you this new-old-stock, unfired Model 83 with 4-inch barrel and adjustable rear sight..."

he said, "OK!"

and then proceeded to punch bullseyes at 7 yards after picking up the Taurus for the first time...

>:(

(I had cleaned it and checked it out for him before going to the range... the revolver was basically new, but shot POI/A out of the box!)

Unc thats so funny you mention the Duke and his empty chamber. I watched True Grit last night and Mattie asked why he did that and he spouts out "so I don't shoot my foot off " LOL
