DANG Dinadan you made me duck pointing that thing at me . ;)
I should have cleaned the bore before taking the photo - I had just been shooting.

Quote from: linux_author on April-17-19 15:04something about the LCRs that, pardon the pun, rubs me the wrong way...

great lookin' wheelgun though... would like one of the .327 Federals!

Linux - I have not noticed any finger problems yet. In all honesty, I am not that crazy about the way the LCRs looks, but it does seem to be a good revolver.

Quote from: smokeless joe on April-17-19 15:04I love the LCR's I've got a 38 and a 357.

I liked the LCR photos that you posted in this thread!

Quote from: Canoeal on April-17-19 16:04Dinadin_ I used to have my grandfather's H&R Double Action, It was the one he kept in his pharmacy after WWI. That was a .38 S&W, dated at one time by the stamp on the barrel as 1907-1901. Don't have the gun any longer, but still have some of the spent shells.

That is about the era that I was thinking they were made.

Quote from: heyjoe on April-17-19 19:04And here is the 2" version of the 38 S&W Terrier

Very nice old revolver, Joe! If that is the original bluing then that gun was really taken care of.

Quote from: LHB on April-17-19 20:04There are a lot of Colt Police Positives out there in 38 New Police / 38 S&W.

Maybe I have seen them at gun shows and just thought they were .38 Specials.

Not sure, but I think that S&W brought out their 38 long before they decided to upgrade the 38 Long Colt to make the S&W Special.   I think that at the time of WWI the 38 S&W, or its twin, the 38 Colt New Police were the standard police rounds.   Now sure how many thousand 38 S&W revolvers were produced for the British  is WWII, which the Brits called the .380-200.   There are a lot of Colt Police Positives out there in 38 New Police / 38 S&W.

From what I've read, the Brits found the .380-200 to be a pretty good stopper, apparently because the 200 grain lead roundnose bullet was too long to stabilize well at the loaded velocity and tended to "tumble" upon impact, greatly enhancing its effectiveness.

In the early 80's, my dad & I duplicated that load (he was the teacher, I was the student), using .38 Special cases loaded with cast lead 200 grain blunt-nose bullets. It worked. We eventually worked up a load that was stable in flight, but would tumble upon impact. The hole in the front paper or wood target was round (normal bore size) and the bullet had started to keyhole in the second target placed several inches behind. It wasn't gas-checked, had relatively mild recoil & muzzle blast, was accurate, easy to shoot and didn't lead the bore.
As I tend to lean toward the "heavy slow bullet" camp (vs the light, fast bullet" crowd), I carried it off-duty in a Model 36 for a long time.
Good memories!

This is probably my all time favorite handgun.  It is a S&W Model 63, 8 shot .22LR, with 3" bbl.  Last week I cleaned up the internals and installed a Wilson Combat spring kit.  I bought it for economical double action training for my carry piece, S&W Model 340PD.  It has helped my double action accuracy big time, but it's also become my favorite woods-walking, hunting companion.  I also put some new Altamont grips on her.

I know it's not Wednesday, but hey, I'm retired and days of the week don't matter to me anymore.

Hey Honky Tonk that retired thing is that the same as a recapped tire type of situation ? I only wish my mind would get to that state of quietness , DANG . The Florida summer is upon us and dam its hot and terribly humid , working out in the sun is getting to be a real honest to goodness chore . If it wasn't for a breeze now and then I would know just what heII is like . I'd trade my gun collection for a nice place in north west Georgia , 3500-4000 foot level and a trout stream running close by with lots of shade and maybe an optional mountain lake also close by . Well anyhow to stay on topic a 44 magnum and a 45 Long Colt pictured , I'm confused with the day also . ;)

Nice iron there OV-1D.  I have no trigger time with any of the Colt "snakes", but they sure do look great.  Someday...

I retired 9 years ago.  They shoved me to the curb when I reached the mandatory retirement age of 60.  I still miss it every day, but I have to admit it would be tough now.  I know what you mean about escaping the heat.  I have the other problem; snow.  My wife and I spend a lot of time in FL escaping the winter.  We travel around in our camper, fishing along the coast, and head back home in the spring.  Our daughter lives down there in Pinellas County, and we spend time with her, and we have some friends in Pensacola that keep us busy too.  We always have a good time.  I don't think I could take the summer down there though.

hey, my neck of the woods (we live in the exact geographic center of Pinellas - 20 minutes to everywhere)

i just got a nice pair of sunburned knees from some surf fishing yesterday (pompano are close in for the next week or so)

will be shootin' wheelguns next Tuesday, but may hit up the outdoor range w/the sub-2000 before then - it's a 'multi-mag' and can use M&P, CZ, Beretta, TP9, and Sig P320 magazines... got a pair of 30-round Beretta mags to try out...

Nice S&W model 63, HTM. I know what you mean about retirement and the days getting mixed up. But what does the day of the week matter when every day is a weekend day!! Back when I worked when I would see a man headed out with a boat and fishing gear on a weekday my typical thought, or comment, was: That S_O_B! Now when I am heading out on a weekday with my boat, when I pass a construction site I figure that I am getting cussed a time or two.

5_shooter, some of us like looking at guns so much that we will happily flip our monitors upside down to see a post! Cool group of revolvers!

Ovid - Nice guns. I know what you mean about the heat and humidity. It is that way here too.

Those are a couple of interesting endoscope photos, Uncle Lee and Barry. When I took the photo looking down the muzzle of my LCR the thing at the bottom of the bore was not a bullet. The cylinder was open and the shiny steel insert around the firing pin does give the impression of a chambered bullet.

When my 20 foot endoscope came in the mail (ebay special) my wife's quick comment was, "Don't come near me with that thing!"

Willie, our daughter lives in West St Petersburg.  I like that whole area.  We usually stay at MacDill AFB in Tampa when down that way, but due to a reservation snafu; we ended up in Little Manatee River State Park this year.  I told my daughter when I was young, St Pete was famous for the high senior population.  She laughed and told me it used to be known as "God's Waiting Room".  We don't have a boat down there, but fish from piers.  You never know what you'll catch in salt water.  Sounds like you're making the most of your life in paradise.

Dinadan, Yes, you're now one of those guys the working stiffs envy.  Enjoy it.  You worked hard for that.   My younger brothers plan things to do and don't even ask me if I'm available anymore.  They just assume I'm free.  They're shocked if I can't go.  Every day is a Saturday.

very good... i try to not go over the Howard Frankenstein too much, but can't avoid it if family or friends fly in and need a ride to/from TPA...

ah yes, St. Pete used to be known as 'The Land of the Newly Wed and Nearly Dead,' but now is host to high-end condos, swells, twinks, Brogas with man-buns, and a wannabe San Francisco culture... needless to say, we don't go downtown but once in a while to the Rowdies soccer stadium...

and at this stage in my life, every day is a holiday, every meal a feast, and every paycheck a fortune! today is the wife unit's birthday, so i'm making Alaska salmon croquettes, 16-count Argentine red shrimp cocktails, Cedar Key middleneck steamed clams, and sea scallop stuffing casserole (we have her sister and brother-in-law in too)

on_topic: tuesday i'll be using some .38SPL and .380ACP in my two Charter revolvers; they're in rotation

OK you endoscope groupies and wannabes, here's some endoscopes.  The 6 1/2' long ones go you-know-where. The more-complicated-looking ones with the black rectangular box attached are ultrasound endoscopes, each unit pushing $100K, that are used to identify and intervene with cysts and masses of the pancreas and surroundings, by use of a long flexible retractable needle that goes through the wall of the stomach and into the problem area.
In 13 more months, on my 71st birthday, I'll be walking away from a life as an RN, and it's been exactly that. Very rewarding, huge fun, and the bills get paid. I'll take any endoscopy questions now....
